Kevin Bohaty
Kevin Christopher Bohaty, 42, Seward, died Sept. 15, 2004.
He was born Oct. 24, 1961, in Seward, to Richard Dean and Eleanor Veronica (Vavra) Bohaty. He attended Seward Public Schools and was a 1980 graduate of Seward High School. Mr. Bohaty graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 1984 with a degree in agricultural economics. In June 1986, he graduate from Southeast Community College in Milford in diesel mechanics.
He married Marilyn Kay Wiechman on June 18, 1988, in Seward. He was involved in agriculture all his life. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward where he served as an acolyte and enjoyed participating in parish and school activities. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus council 8469.
Mr. Bohaty was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed golf, mechanics and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Emma Bohaty and Anton and Christine Vavra.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, Seward, children, Emily and Eric Bohaty, parents, Richard D. and Eleanor Bohaty, Seward, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard A. and Ann Bohaty, Jeffrey A. and Janet Bohaty, and Anthony J. Bohaty, all of Seward, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, parents-in-law, Richard and LaVonne Wiechman, Marysville, Kan., brother-in-law, spouse, Mike and Pam Wiechman, Salina, Kan., and sisters-in-law, spouses, Margaret and Jeff Ficken, Lincoln, and Miriam and Darren Weber, Crete.
Funeral services were Sept. 18 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Seward with the Revs. Rand Lanhorst, Robert Barnhill, Rob Allgaier and John Perkinton officiating. Casketbearers were bill Anderson, John Tesina, Ron Herrold, John Tvrdy, Mark Suhr and Mitch Vavra. Honorary Casketbearers were Richard A., Jeffrey A. and Anthony J. Bohaty, Jeff Ficken, Mike Wiechman and Darren Weber. Burial was at the Seward Cemetery.
Jeannie Campbell
Jeannie Theone (Niermeyer) Campbell, 83, Seward, died Sept. 11, 2004.
She was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Appleton, Wis., to Albert Claire and Kathryn (Barth) Niermeyer. She was a 1939 graduate of Appleton High School, Appleton, Wis. She attended one year of college.
She married Paul Herbert Campbell on June 7, 1941. They moved to Seward in 1946. She was member of First Presbyterian Church, Seward. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1987, brother, Ivan Blevens, and grandson, Kevin Campbell.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Paul S. "Butch" and JoAnne Campbell, Colwich, Kan., and Michael S. and Jenny Campbell, Omaha, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother, Maynard Niermeyer, Waseca, Minn., nieces and nephews.
Service of remembrance was Sept. 15 at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home in Seward with the Rev. Rand Langhorst officiating. Casketbearers were Scott, Matthew and Patrick Campbell, J. Alan Williams, Steve Thimmesch and Jason Paseka. Honorary casketbearers were Robert Blevens, Russell Endicott, Brady Johnson, Doug Dickinson, Rob Holland, Jerry Owens and Dr. Richard Pitsch. Burial was at the Seward Cemetery.
Velma Hodde
Velma Anna Hodde, 77, Seward, died Sept. 12, 2004.
She was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Seward to Carl Henry and Frieda Ella (Gehle) Hodde. She was employed as a clerk with Kolterman's Ben Franklin in Seward for 45 years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and VFW Auxiliary Post 4755 in Seward.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar C. Hodde, and sister, Lois Hodde.
Survivors include sister, Paula Hans, Lincoln; two nephews; one niece; sister-in-law, Genny Hodde; aunt, Vera Gehle; and cousins.
Funeral services were Sept. 16 at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward with the Rev. James A. Miller officiating. Casketbearers were Gary Hodde, Don Rutledge, Willard Spahr, David Hans, Wesley Ficke and Orville Pearson. Burial was at Faith Lutheran East Cemetery in rural Seward.
Emma Wood
Emma Wilhelmina Wood, 98, Lincoln, died Sept. 18, 2004.
She was born May 18, 1906, near Pleasant Dale to Herman and Emma (Wagenknecht) Schultz. She married James Wood on Dec. 20, 1945. They lived in Lincoln and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Wood worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. for 32 years. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed travelling, knitting, crocheting and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, brothers, Herman and Ferdinand Schultz, and sisters, Anna Rockenbach, Bertha Hoffman and Ida Schildt.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Marlyn Wood, Kirkland, Wash., two grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, Minnie Luckert, Lincoln, and Elsie and Clarence Luebbe, Pleasant Dale, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 724 S. 12th St., LIncoln, with the Rev. Duane Voorman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Interment will be Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Seward Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church and school.
Pallbearers are Larry and James Schildt, Lonnie and Lyle Luebbe, Clifford Schweitzer and Jay Linke.
Dennis Staehr
Dennis Henry Staehr, 65, York, died Sept. 19, 2004, in an automobile accident south of Waco.
He was born Jan. 26, 1939, in Waco to Alfred and Grace (Dey) Staehr. He worked for York Packing for 27 years after graduating from high school. Then he worked at Overland Ready Mix in York for 15 years.
He married JoeAnne Opfer on Sept. 27, 1959, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. He was a longtime member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and of the Lutheran Laymen League. He had served on several boards at Emmanuel.
He was avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed talking with people, gardening, traveling, golfing, card playing and canning pickles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Grace Staehr, sisters, Donna Jean Rathje and Elaine Staehr, father-in-law, Walter Opfer, brothers-in-law, Wayne Opfer and Marvin Rathje and one nephew.
Survivors include his wife, JoeAnne, York, sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Lynda Staehr, Garland, Matt and JoAnn Staehr and Dale Staehr, all of York, brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Staehr, Utica, Gerald and Marilyn Staehr, Ronald and CloeAnne Staehr and Gene and Sandi Staehr, all of York, David and Charlotte Staehr, Overland Park, Kan., Douglas and Vicki Staehr, Stromsburg, and Keith and Cynthe Staehr, Kimball, sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores and Richard Bartholomew, Seward, Joyce and Denny Riekenberg, Hordville, and Mary and Scott Chew, Salinas, Calif., nieces, nephews, mother-in-law, Pauline Opfer, York, brother-in-law, Glenn Rathje, York, and four grandsons.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutherean Church in York with the Rev. Tim Marshall officiating. Burial will be at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery south of Waco. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, Orphan Grain Train, Emmanuel/Faith Lutheran School or the family. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at Metz Mortuary in York.
Kathryn Mundhenke
Kathryn M. Mundhenke, 83, Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Milford, died Sept. 11, 2004.
She was born May 26, 1921, in Hopper, to E.H. Timme and Louise Euhus. Mrs. Mundhenke was a Tupperware dealer for 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Wallace Mundhenke, Yuma, Ariz., sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Carol Whyrick, Jacksonville, Fla., John Whyrick, Waverly, and Edward and Dawn Whyrick, Garland, daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Roger Balfour, West York, Ill., brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Erma Timme, Lincoln, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at Volzke Mortuary in Seward with the Rev. Louis Griser officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.
Dorothy Anderson
Dorothy Edith Anderson, 78, Milford, died Oct. 5, 2004.
She was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Staffordshire, England, to Ernest and Dorothy (Ashton) Chilvers. She attended night school during the war. She married Alvin Anderson on June 15, 1944, in England.
During World War II, Alvin was sent to the Philippines and was discharged in 1945. She came to the U.S. with other war brides, was reunited with Alvin and resided in Milford for their married life.
She was employed with the Milford Tech School as a cook. She did cleaning at various businesses, including the ESU 6 of Milford. She retired in 2002. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, reading the local news, knitting and doing needlework. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Milford.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Wyitt, brother, Tom Chilvers, sisters-in-law, Hilda Chilvers, Edith Jantzi, Hannah Allison, Mabel and Joy Hoge and Helen and Ann Anderson, and brothers-in-law, Alfred Anderson, Roman Jantzi, Charles Allison and Derrick Wyitt.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin, sisters and brothers-in-law, Lily and Peter Hall, Eva Denham and Mary and Martin McHale, brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Rose Chilvers and Raymond and Shirley Chilvers, all of England, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Andrew Anderson, Fairmont, Harry Anderson, Milford, Charles and Beverly Anderson, Lincoln, and Margaret Anderson, Gresham, Ore., nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Oct. 8 at the Milford United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial was at Blue Mound Cemetery in Milford. Pallbearers were Jeff Filleman, Mike Flanigan, Scott Jantzi, Seth Reed, Billy Lane and Charles Anderson. Honorary pallbearer was Jerry Jantzi. Memorials may be directed in care of the family.
Leonard Steinke
Leonard Steinke, 73, Seward, died Oct. 5, 2004.
He was born May 14, 1931, near Venango to Henry and Emma (Miller) Steinke. He attened school in Vanango and later Milford Trade School for two years in watch and jewelry repair. He married Jean Dahlke on Aug. 24, 1958, in York. The family lived in York until December of 1961 when they moved to Wisner. From 1967 to 1974, the family lived in Norton, kan., and they moved to Seward in 1974.
Mr. Steinke was the owner of Leonard's Jewelry in downtown Seward. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Seward and the Seward Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Seward Lions Club.
Jean died in 1997 and Mr. Steinke married Ruth (Sheumaker) Johnson on Oct. 28, 2000, at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Steinke, son, Charles Steinke, and sister, Dorothy Steinke.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Steinke, Seward, daughters, Rosemary Schulz, Lincoln, and Denise Steinke, Springfield, Mo., son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Natalya Steinke, Gardner, Kan., stepchildren and spouses, Mark and Valerie Johnson, Staplehurst, Darlene and John McElwee, St. Louis, Mo., and Denise and Bill Sebek, Osceola, Iowa, brothers and sister-in-law, Ed and Elnora Steinke and Richard Steinke, all of Venango, sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret Krems and Irene and Mike Abs, all of Big Springs, Marcine and Larry Steward, Littleton, Colo., Marlene Sharp, Aurora, Colo., and Laurie and Frank Smith, Wheatridge, Colo., three grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Oct. 9 at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward with the Rev. James A. Miller officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cementery in York. Casketbearers were Herman Schmidt, Dr. Byron Winter, Ted von Fange, Byron Norval, Janet Bergantzel and Marvin Sefrna.
