Amelia Wilson
SAN ANTONIO -- Amelia A. Wilson, 84, of San Antonio died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at San Antonio.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in San Antonio, with Monsignor Pat Cronin officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio.
Mrs. Wilson was born April 16, 1917, in Columbus to Matt and Hedwig (Tryba) Jarecki. She attended St. Bonaventure School in Columbus and was a retired Civil Service employee at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Survivors include her sisters, Barbara Jarecki and Germaine Cummins of Holdrege; one brother, Anthony (Mary Anne) Jarecki of Tyler, Texas; stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maj. Donald L. Wilson, U.S. Air Force (retired) on Nov. 21; three brothers, Ed Jarecke, Ben Jarecki and John Jarecki; five sisters, Hedwig Micek, Viola Gonka, Helen Sock, Anna Maslonka and Marie Gerber.
Marvel Emma (Snook) Voels
STRATTON -- Marvel Emma (Snook) Voels, 91, of Stratton, formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at her home in Stratton.
She was born Jan. 3, 1910, at Luverne, Minn., to Wesley and Sylvia (Pokett) Snook. The family moved to Sioux Falls when she was a young girl.
On June 19, 1928, she married
George H.H. Voels. She was employed by John Morrell & Company, and retired in 1975 after more than 38 years of service. In 1998, she moved to Stratton to live with her daughter.
She was confirmed on June 11, 1972, into the Lutheran faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, and attended the United Methodist Church at Stratton. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; one son, Marvin; six sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include her children, Don Voels and wife, Pat of Neponset, Ill., and Joyce Johnson and husband, Charles of Stratton; one brother, Milton Snook and wife, Esther of Sioux Falls; one sister, Norma Mortenson of Clinton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the Rev. Scott Sayler officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m., at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Benjamin Hoover
COLUMBUS -- Benjamin John Hoover, 18, 2111 17th St., died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Children's Hospital in Omaha.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Congregational Church in Columbus with the Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating.
Visitation will have family receiving friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Ben was born Sept. 28, 1983, in Columbus to Gary and Lana (Kroeger) Hoover. He received his education at North Park Elementary School and Columbus Middle School. He graduated from Columbus High School in 2002. He also lived in Schuyler and Shelby for a period of time before returning to Columbus.
He was an avid professional wrestling fan. He had aspirations of entering professional wrestling as a career. Throughout his illness, he strived to complete this goal.
Survivors include his mother; three brothers, Barry Herout of Omaha, Brian (Nichole) Herout of Columbus and Brock Hoover of Howells; his grandmother, Betty Hoover of Grand Island; grandparents, Kenneth and Marjorie Kroeger of Schuyler; and his stepfather, Scott Ward of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandfather, Don Hoover.
Maurice Shockey
COLUMBUS - Maurice D. Shockey, 77, of Columbus, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Bryan LGH Hospital East, Lincoln.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, with the Rev. Timothy White officiating. Burial in Arborville Cemetery, rural Polk, Tuesday, with 2 p.m. military honors accorded by the American Legion Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Gass Haney Funeral Home. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Shockey was born April 12, 1925, in Polk County, a son of John Patton and Pearl (Colby) Shockey. He attended York High School, then entered the U.S. Navy July 13, 1943, serving on the USS LST 226. He was in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was honorably discharged March 4, 1946.
On July 20, 1947, he was married
to Wilma Orr. He owned and operated Hilder-Shockey Jewelry Store in York for 40 years. He retired and moved to Columbus.
On March 17, 1990, he was married
to Nina Penfield in Columbus.
Mr. Shockey was a member of the church, a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Columbus and York and the Elks Club in York. He was a member of the Nebraska and South Dakota Jewelers Association and was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.
Survivors include his wife of Columbus; one son: Rick (Nancy) Shockey of Waco; two stepdaughters: Lisa Tobiason of Lincoln and Shari (Bob) Haiar of Humphrey; one stepson: Alan (Tina) Penfield of Chappell; one bother: Leonard Shockey of York; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Precedinghim in death were his parents; his wife; a brother: Raymond Shockey; a grandson: Teddy Tobiason; and a granddaughter: Cassie Haiar.
Memorials can be made to American Legion Hartman Post No. 84 or the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Louis Mick
COLUMBUS - Louis E. Mick, 88, of Bellwood died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Morys Haven in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood with the Rev. Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be at St. Peters-Presentation cemetery in rural Bellwood.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. today with a vigil at 7 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Mick was born April 10, 1912, in Bellwood, to Joseph F. and Minnie (Sprunk) Mick. He received his education at District 13 and Bellwood High School. He married
Barbara Liss on Nov. 24, 1936, in Duncan. He farmed for more than 42 years in the Bellwood area.
He was a member of the church, Holy Name Society and the Eagles Club. He served on the Alexis Township Board and on the Bellwood Co-op Grain Board.
Survivors include one brother, Joseph Mick of Columbus; two sisters, Ilene (William) Aerts of David City and Augusta Kracman of Bellwood; and one sister-in-law, Lorene Mick of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Ferdinand Mick and Walter Mick.
Lloyd Jenkinson Sr.
COLUMBUS - Lloyd Thomas Jenkinson Sr., 87, of Monroe died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe with the Rev. Bev Minor officiating. Burial will be at Friend cemetery in rural Genoa.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church, with family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mr. Jenkinson was born April 12, 1913, in rural Monroe to Edward D. and Belle C. (Harris) Jenkinson, attended school in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School in 1932. He then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He married
Elfrieda Ida Jaeggi on Feb. 26, 1950, in Columbus. He was a third-generation Platte County farmer, on the same farm his grandfather homesteaded nearly 150 years ago. He specialized in the production and exhibition of purebred Hampshire swine. He was a school bus driver for Monroe for many years. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed going to his son's softball games.
He was a member of the church, where he served on the church council. He also served on the Monroe School Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Marilyn Archer of Wheeling, W.V. and Carolyn of Columbus; son, Lloyd Jr. (fiancee Amy Deavers) of Monroe; one sister, Alta (Dick) Walters of Columbus; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Edward and an infant stillborn brother.
