Mary Engelbert
HUMPHREY - Mary Engelbert, 96, of Madison, formerly of Humphrey, died at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Duesman Funeral Home in Humphrey with a 3 p.m. Christian Mother's rosary and 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 7 p.m. scripture/rosary service. Visitation continues from 9-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church.
Emilia Micek
COLUMBUS -- Emilia B. Micek, 88, 3918 27th St., died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. David Korth officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6 p.m. at the church with a wake at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Micek was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Platte County to John and Mary (Maslonka) Slusarski. She received her education at St. Stanislaus Grade School and District 16 Country School. She lived in Platte County all her life.
She married
Alphons Micek on Oct. 24, 1937, in Duncan. She was a homemaker and worked as head cook for the lunch program for St. Stanislaus School.
She was a member of the church, St. Ann's Sodality, Franciscan Order-Third Order of St. Francis and Legion of Mary.
Survivors include four sons, Michael (Gail) Micek of Cheyenne, Wyo., Raphael (Margaret) Micek of Pflugerville, Texas, and Mark (Linda) Micek and Joseph (Gina) Micek, all of Columbus; four daughters, Sr. Michelle Micek of Albuquerque, N.M., Rose (Ken) Bernhard of Burr Ridge, Ill., Anne (David) Zalewski of North Platte and Joan (Roger) Kinsey of Lincoln; seven brothers, Ed Slusarski, Francis (Donna) Slusarski, Marion (Tessie) Slusarski, Rudy (Irene) Slusarski and Ted (Marcella) Slusarski, all of Columbus, Lonnie (Minnie) Slusarski of Westminster, Colo., and John (Sandy) Stevens of Elmhurst, Ill.; two sisters, Sr. Rosaria Slusarski of Columbus and Stephanie (Leonard) Small of Fullerton; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Cecelia Slusarski; and one granddaughter.

Mary Siffring
DAVID CITY -- Mary Siffring, 83, of David City died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City.
Visitation will be Thursday from noon until a 7:30 p.m. wake service followed by PCCW rosary at Knott Funeral Home in David City.
Charles C. Taylor
ENDERS -- Charles Crandall Taylor, 85, died Saturday (Oct. 25, 2001) on his farm east of Enders.
He was born June 17, 1916, at Lincoln, to Charles J. and Grace (Crandall) Taylor. He was raised on the Taylor and Crandall Ranch north of Enders. He started farming at the age of 18 years on a different farm north of Enders.
On Feb. 26, 1937, he married
Martha Ellen Groce at Imperial. In 1964, they moved to a farm east of Enders where he lived until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; two sons, Charles and Gene; one daughter, Marjorie; and one grandson, Carl.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and wife, Dorothy of Wauneta, and Gary of Rushville; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Taylor of Denair, Calif.; one son-in-law, Bob Jackson of Denair; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Church of the Brethran at Enders with the Rev. Francis Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery in Wauneta.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 2 to 6 p.m., at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Church of the Brethren at Enders.
Liewer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Lange
COLUMBUS -- Mary Lange, 85, of Columbus died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with family receiving friends at that time.
Jean Bird
COLUMBUS - Jean E. Bird, 81, of Columbus died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Chris Grimmond officiating. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. vigil, both at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, Visitation continues from 8-10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bird was born Oct. 26, 1919, in Columbus to Richard and Ella (Mills) Berger. She graduated from Kramer High School in 1938.
She married
Wesley Bird July 7, 1945, in Columbus. The couple lived in Columbus, where she worked at Becton-Dickinson for 20 years.
She was a member of the St. Theresa Sodality and the church.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Bill (Connie) Bird of Columbus; one daughter, Jeanette (Hart) Mikkelsen of Columbus; a half-brother, Raymond (Rita) Berger of Columbus; a stepsister-in-law, Dona Ridenour of Columbus; a stepbrother, Robert (Anna Mae) Ridenour of Coarse Gold, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Pearl Berger; one brother, Richard Berger; one stepsister, Evelyn "Sissy" Keith; and one stepbrother, Edwin "Scoop" Ridenour.
Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Bill Berney
ALBION -- Bill L. Berney, 65, of Albion, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home, Albion, with a 7:30 prayer service.
Mr. Berney was born July 18, 1937, in Omaha to Irvin and Marie (Wichman) Berney. He attended Albion public schools.
On Jan. 11, 1955, Mr. Berney entered the U.S. Navy, and received a medical discharge due to illness Feb. 23 of that year.
He was married
to Shirley Johnson on Oct. 10, 1964, at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Edward. They lived in Albion, where Mr. Berney was employed with Cornhusker Power. He retired in 1999, but continued to read meters part time for the company. He also worked security part time at Platte County Agricultural Park, and drove a truck for Helena.
Mr. Berney was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Albion. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 162 and was a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. He taught EMT, CPR and first aid classes, and was also a Special Olympics coach and a Weebles scout leader. Mr. Berney served on the Albion Planning Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Albion; two daughters: Anna (Lee) Roberts of Sharon, Tenn., and Amber Berney of Albion; three grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry (Shirley) of Norfolk and Danny (Joan) of Albion; and four sisters: Donna (Gene) Westenfeld of Cordell, Ga., Patsy (Jerome) Gasper of St. Edward, Terry (Dave) Thompson of Newman Grove and Marla Berney of Tilden.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Owen; brother, Jim Berney; and sister, Linda Berney.
