Marlene Fluckiger
COLUMBUS - Marlene K. Fluckiger, 63, of Columbus died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Burial will be at Jackson cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. today at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Fluckiger was born March 24, 1937, on her grandparents' farm near Duncan. She graduated from Silver Creek High School.
She married
Carroll "Cub" Fulckiger on April 16, 1955 in Silver Creek. She lived near Duncan most of her life. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the church, a charter member in 1964 of the Duncan Fire Department Auxillary and a member of the American Legion Auxilliary 263 in Silver Creek. She was a past board member and caretaker of Jackson cemetery Association and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3704 Auxilliary.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Paula) Fluckiger and Duane (Laurie) Fluckiger, all of Duncan; two daughters, Diane Boruch and Terri Hager, both of Duncan; one brother, Robert (Karen) Edmison of rural Columbus; and two sisters, Sheryl A. (Bruce) Eddings of Aurora, Colo., and Beverly A. Hutzell of Memphis, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Laddie Cimpl
YANKTON, S.D. - Laddie E. Cimpl, 85, of Yankton, S.D., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with the Revs. Charles Cimpl and James Tiegs officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery with military rites by the Ernest Bowyer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 791.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary and an 8 p.m. scripture service.
Mr. Cimpl was born April 6, 1917, in rural Tabor, S.D., to L.A. and Lillian (Hamberger) Cimpl. He received his education from Tabor and Yankton High School and courses at Yankton College. He later received his GED from Yankton High School.
He was associated with Cimpl Meats during the Great Depression when he began learning the meat trade from his uncle. Except for two years spent learning the wholesale end of the industry with Roman Packing Co., he remained with the family business until he was called to serve in World War II.
After returning from four years of service in the U.S. Navy, he married
Doris M. Connelly on Sept. 30, 1946, at Lake Andes, S.D.
In 1949, he and his brothers, John and Jim, opened Cimpl Packing in Yankton, where he served as president until 1988. In 1994, the Laddie E. Cimpl Arena was named in honor of his 25 years of leadership to Mount Marty College. His association with the school included being chairman of the board of trustees and leader of the college's Realizing a Vision capital campaign. He served as president of the Yankton Chamber of Commerce, Sacred Heart Church Council, Knights of Columbus, South Dakota Industrial Division of the Department of Economic and Tourism Development, South Dakota State Golf Association and chairman of the board of Sacred Heart Hospital. He also was a director and board chairman for First Dakota National Bank, and served as a director of Northwestern Public Service. Nationally, he had served as vice president of the National Meat Packers Association. He was a member of Ernest Bowyer VFW Post 791, Yankton Elks, Moose Lodge, Sacred Heart Church, Quarter Back Club, Rotary Club and Czech Heritage Preservation Society.
He was recognized in 1984 as South Dakotan of the Year by the University of South Dakota School of Business and Agribusiness Man of the Year by South Dakota State University in Brookings. He was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of letters from Yankton College where he had served as a member of the advisory board. He also received an honorary doctorate from Mount Marty College in recognition of his dedication and contributions to the school. He was recognized as Yankton's Citizen of the Year in 1992 and also was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
He was an avid golfer and a founding member of the Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton where he served more than 20 years as chairman of the Pro AM Golf Tournament. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling and attending Mount Marty College athletic events.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay (Larry) Wagner of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Colleen (Bill) Chase of Yankton; two grandsons; one sister, Angeline Valvin of Tyndall, S.D.; and five brothers, John Cimpl and Jim Cimpl, both of Yankton; Leonard Cimpl of Tabor; Manny Cimpl of Columbus and Las Vegas, and Don Cimpl of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 12, 2002; and his parents.

Antonette Bartek
DAVID CITY - Antonette Bartek, 92, of David City, formerly of Valparaiso, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at David Place in David City.
Services are pending with Halesovsky Mortuary in Brainard.
Mary Ann Owens
LOUP CITY - Mary Ann Owens, 69, of Ord died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Josaphats Catholic Church in Loup City with the Rev. Reginald A. Urban officiating. Burial will be at Arcadia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6-9 p.m. at the church. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Owens was born April 5, 1932, at Loup City to Anton and Sophia (Rewolinski) Lewandowski. She attended grade school at District 59 Country School and St. Josaphat's parochial school and graduated from Loup City High School in 1950. She married
Raymond "Bud" Owens on Sept. 29, 1951, in Loup City. They farmed in Arcadia. In 1962, they moved into Arcadia. She entered Valley County Nursing Home in Ord in July 1985.
She was a member the church as well as of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society in Arcadia and the American Legion Auxiliary in Arcadia. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, polka music and dancing.
Survivors include her husband of Arcadia; five sons, Richard "Dick" Owens of Albion, Myron "Mike" Owens of Lincoln, Mark Owens of Hastings, Dwain Owens of Columbus and Shawn Owens of Arcadia; five daughters, Paula Johnson of Arcadia, Janelle Masters of Hastings, Julie Gydesen of Ord, Patricia "Patti" Buttell of Hastings and Mary Young of Columbus; two brothers, Fred Lewandowski of Ansley and Dale Lewandowski of Loup City; four sisters, Donette Holcomb of Arcadia, Marge Larimer of Billings, Mont., Harriet Polski and Esther Kaminski, both of Omaha; 24 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, infant Joseph Owens and Alan Owens; one brother, Carl Lewandowski; and two sisters, Evelyn Janulewicz and Rozella Silver.
Elon Brewer
COLUMBUS - Elon W. Brewer, 85, of Columbus died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Edgewood Vista in Columbus.
Services will be at a later date.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.
Carol Ann Springer
OGALLALA -- Carol Ann Springer, 67, of Ogallala died Saturday, (Oct. 27, 2001) at her home.
She was born March 31, 1934, in Lebanon to Freeman and Pearle Magers Gay. Carol received her early education in Lebanon Schools and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1951.
Carol married
Dean Springer on Dec. 18, 1951, in Ogallala. The couple resided in Ogallala where she was employed by TRW. She was later employed by Humphrey Auto Supply,
Carol moved to Colorado Springs in 1974 and was employed as a secretary for the Gordon Sign Company, The Richey Contractors and the Brennamon Appliance, She returned to Ogallala in 1990 and was employed by the Ogallala High School.
Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala, and served on the Methodist Church Board, the Ogallala Planning Commission, her hobbies included quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean in 1966; two sisters, Donna Gay and Shirley Gay; two brothers, Delor and Merlin.
Survivors include three sons, Richard and wife, Connie of North Platte, Keith and wife, Kris, and James and wife, Raelene, all of Ogallala; one sister, Janet Moul of Livermore, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Emily, Allison, Chance and Brian
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society and the First United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation.
Inurnment will be at the Ogallala Cemetery.
