Alfred Haag
INDIANOLA -- Alfred Haag, 80, died Sunday (October 21, 2001) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 7, 1921, to Joseph and Gertrude Barbara (Gillen) Haag. He attended Danbury Public Schools.
In 1944 he served with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II.
On Jan. 31, 1945, he married
V. Evelyn Howell at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. They lived on the family farm near Indianola until 1965 when they moved to Danbury where he was owner and operator of the Danbury Oil Company. He retired in 1986. In December 1996, they moved to Indianola.
He was a life-time member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He served as Fire Chief of the Beaver Valley Rural Fire Department for 14 years, Mayor of Danbury; 4-H Leader and school board member of Dist. No. 50.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Francis J. "Buck" Haag.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Indianola; two sons, Robert Haag and wife, Kathy, and Richard Haag and wife, Janet, all of Indianola; three daughters, Dianne Jones and husband, Dean of Kearney, Darla Jordan and husband, Randy of McCook, and Kendra Jefferson and husband, Brian of Central City; 18 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Msgr. Daniel Pohl officiating. Interment will be at St. Catherine's cemetery in Indianola.
The rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
Visitation is today until time of the rosary at Carpenter Funeral Home of Indianola.

Rose Tuma
COLUMBUS -- Rose Ann Tuma, 92, of Columbus died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a vigil at 7 p.m. and 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Anna McDonald
COLUMBUS -- Anna E. McDonald, 90, of Columbus died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. Larry Adams officiating. Burial will be at Laurel Hill cemetery in Neligh at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. McDonald was born on May 12, 1911, at
David City to Edwin F. and Frances R. (Veleba) Hawk. She attended rural Holt County School. She worked as a housekeeper on a ranch in the Deloit area.
She married
Watson R. McDonald on June 22, 1927, in O'Neill. They farmed in the Deloit area until 1965 when a tornado hit and destroyed the farm. They then moved to Neligh and in 1986, they moved to Columbus.
She enjoyed music, gardening sewing, baking and being a homemaker.
She was a member of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann (John) Higgins of Lincoln, Rose Miller of Downey, Calif., and Ginger Moon of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Erma McDonald of Neligh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Richard McDonald; three brothers, Jim Hawk, John Hawk and Frank Hawk; two sisters, Clara Hall and Lucy Libby; and one son-in-law, Gary Moon.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church or donor's choice.

Roger L. Calvin
Roger L. Calvin, 72, died Friday (Oct. 19, 2001) at Community Hospital of McCook.
He was born Dec. 20, 1928, at McCook to Eugene and Lillian (Schow) Calvin. He grew up in McCook, and graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1947. He graduated from McCook Junior College in 1949.
On Feb. 15, 1951, he entered the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean Conflict.
On Nov. 13, 1955, he married
Lois Mae Carlson at McCook. They spent their married
lives in McCook. He was employed as an office manager for Hormel and Howard Kool Chevrolet for 37 years.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, and the American Legion Post in McCook.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Warren Calvin.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of McCook; two sons, David Calvin and wife, Sandra of Holdrege, and Jerry Calvin and wife, Robin of McCook; two daughters, Diane Calvin of Muncie, Ind., and Elaine Callister and husband, Bill of Battlement Mesa, Colo.; one brother, Keith Calvin and wife, Joan of Culbertson; one sister-in-law, Gladys Calvin of McCook; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullmann officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name, and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.

Rose (Butherus) Cook
CULBERTSON -- Rose Cook, 99, died Thursday (October 18, 2001) at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
She was born July 24, 1902, to Henry and Katherine (Gies) Butherus at Trenton. She attended school at Benkleman and Bartley, graduating from Bartley High School in 1921. She received her Teachers Training Certificate and taught rural school in Bartley, District 69 and District 2 north of Culbertson. She lived most of her life in this area.
On June 26, 1923, she married
Carl C. Cook in McCook. They farmed northwest of Culbertson until 1975 when they moved to Culbertson. She moved into Hillcrest in December of 1999.
She was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years, and a home Bible Study teacher. She was a charter member of the Help A Lot Club, the Culbertson Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Bethel Missionary Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl in 1996; five sisters, Katie Mosier, Elsie Davis, Marie Vincent, Louise Catlett and Lillian Herman; and one brother, Raymond Butherus.
Survivors include two sons, Eugene Cook and wife, Lee of LaJolla, Calif., and Glenn Cook and wife, Anita of Big Sandy, Mont.; one daughter, Bonita Weber and husband, Fred of Culbertson; one sister, Frieda Riemer of Hale, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Rachel Rousselle and husband, Robert of Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Bethel Missionary Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Mark Hunter officiating. Interment will be at the Culbertson Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook. Memorials may be given in her name.
