Alice Babka, 90, of Ocala, FL died Tues., Feb. 25, 2003 at Ocala.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 28 at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Rev. Debra Tompsett-Welch officiated. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery in Ord. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Babka was born Mar. 27, 1912 at Ord to Lars and Rosa (Miska) Larsen. She was raised at Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1930. She taught rural country school for several years.
Mary Boyce

Mary Boyce, 96, of Ord died Mon., June 23, 2003 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., June 25 at the Ord Memorial Chapel in Ord. Rev. Robert Caldwell officiated. Linda Nance was organist and Sharon Fuss was the soloist. Pallbearers were Barry Boyce, Tim Boyce, Kevin Pavlik, Doug Boyce, Mark Boyce and Scott Pavlik. Honorary pallbearers were Gregory Boyce, Brad Boyce, Jimmy Boyce, Jenelle Brock, Michelle Boyce, Kelly Boyce, Danny Boyce, Tammy Boyce, Kim Zuerlein and Denise Manderochio. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Lucille Allison, 94, of Scotia died Thurs., Aug. 14, 2003 at Tiffany Square Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 19 at the Scotia United Methodist Church. Rev. Bruce Phillips officiated. Karen Wieskamp was the accompanist and the congregation sang hymns. Pallbearers were Richard Meyer, Robert Meyer, Dennis Winter, Harlan Gydesen, Allen Babcock and Jim Johnson. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Allison was born May 3, 1909 at Scotia to Arthur and Anna (Locker) Schilling. She attended rural school at Fish Creek and graduated from Scotia Consolidated High School. She received a teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College and taught in rural schools west of Spalding, north of North Loup, Fish Creek and Big Springs.
Ethel Carson

Ethel Carson, 95, of Ord died Mon., Oct. 13, 2003 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ at Purdum with Robert Woodward officiating. Ethel's family provided the music. Pallbearers were Charles Stukenborg, Kristopher Lewis, Kollin Lewis, Todd Brown, Keith Peterson, Chad Carson, Kevin Lewis and Larry Uden. Burial was at 2 p.m. MDT in the Ash Hollow Cemetery in Garden County, NE. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carson was born Sept. 7, 1908 at Philadelphia, PA to Samuel "Sam" and Silva Harriet "Etta" (Rothermal) Snyder. She was raised at Silver Creek where she also attended grade school. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1927 and then attended Kearney State Teachers College. She taught school in Garden County in western Nebraska.
Beulah "Bea" Coats

Beulah "Bea" Coats, 69, of Branson, MO died Fri., June 21, 2002 at her home in Branson.
There were no services. She was cremated. Greenlawn Funeral Home of Branson was in charge of the cremation.
Mrs. Coats was born Nov. 18, 1932 at Haigler to Major and Grace (Johnson) Adams.
Billy D. Lindsey
Burwell Resident, 76
Billy Dean Lindsey, 76, of Burwell died Sun., Sept. 22, 2002 at his home in Burwell.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thurs., Sept. 26 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Rev. Don Studley will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. He was cremated. Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lindsey was born Apr. 2, 1926 in Burwell to Ray and Ethel (Lewis) Lindsey. He entered the US Navy on Feb. 22, 1945 and was honorably discharged Apr. 16, 1946.
On Nov. 8, 1947 he married Wilda Clark at the home of her parents. The couple lived in the Calamus community near Burwell where they farmed and ranched. He also worked at Burwell Lumber and Coal. In 1962 they moved into Burwell. He worked at the Burwell Elementary School as custodian for 40 years. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 8, 1997.
Rudolph "Rudy" Rutar
Torrington, WY Resident, 81
Rudolph "Rudy" Rutar, 81 of Torrington, WY died Wed., Apr. 16, 2003 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tues., Apr. 22 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Kevin Koch officiating. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery. Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rutar was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Arcadia to Rudolph and Apolina (Strochota) Rutar, both of whom came from Czechoslovakia. As a child he lived on a farm near Arcadia where he attended country school until the eighth grade. He then attended high school in Arcadia and finished his education in Veteran, WY where he graduated from high school in 1939.
On May 8, 1948 he married Mildred Slangal at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Jordon, OR. He spent his life farming and ranching in Wyoming. He retired from farming in 1981 but continued to be involved with community organizations.

Leah Hunt, 74, of Arcadia died Tues., Aug. 5, 2003 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 9 at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Revs. Janet Burgel and Marlin Hawley officiated. Deb Dodson was organist and Judy Holmes was soloist. Pallbearers were Dennis Leighton, Chuck Riggins, John Hunt, Darrel Johnson, Mike Rice and Ed Hunt. Honorary pallbearers were Leah's nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Arcadia City Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hunt was born Apr. 27, 1929 at Ord, the daughter of Ralph and Lyla (Stone) Holmes. She lived in Custer County until the death of her mother. The family moved to Washington State where they resided for a year. She then attended local schools in Valley and Custer Counties and later Arcadia High School.

Marie Leona Chaffin, 85, of Burwell died Sat., Oct. 11, 2003 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 15 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Pastor Don Studley officiated. Burial was in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chaffin was born May 23, 1918 on her grandfather's homestead to John and Mary (Marecek) Kruml. When she was four years old she lived for nine months with her parents and two older brothers in Czechoslovakia. She spent the remainder of her youth living and attending school in Loup County.
