Alice Ramaekers
NORFOLK -- Alice Ramaekers, 60, of Norfolk died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Albuquerque, N.M., as the result of an automobile accident.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk with the Revs. Dave Belt and Tom Fangman officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. today at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk and 7-8 p.m. this evening at the church with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Ramaekers was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Humphrey to Michael and Josephine (Roman) Knust. She was raised in Petersburg and graduated from John the Baptist Catholic High School in 1959. She graduated from the Lincoln School of Commerce and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha.
She married
Francis John Pfeifer on Sept. 3, 1960. The family lived in Omaha and had five children. They moved to San Juan Capistrano, Calif., in 1970. He died in a work-related accident shortly after their move to California.
She married
Edward "Bud" Ramaekers on Aug. 21, 1970, and the two families became one. She kept the books for the business and raised their family.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and was active on the parish council. She was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a former president of Sacred Heart Altar Society. She was also involved with Christians Encounter Christ, Birth Right, PEO, the Christian Women's Club, in which she was a Bible study leader, and the Sacred Heart Charismatic group. She participated in several bridge groups and was a Mary Kay representative.
Survivors include her children, Terry (Julie) Pfeifer of Grand Island, Mike (Sue) Ramaekers of Norfolk, Doug (Lisa) Pfeifer of Lincoln, Mark (Maryrose) Ramaekers of Omaha, Brenda (Rich) Krumel of Des Moines, Iowa, Jeanne (Chris) Guta of Frisco, Texas, Kevin (Heidi) Ramaekers of Atlanta, Crissy (Brian) Wood of Minneapolis and Tim Ramaekers of Columbus and his fiance, Michelle Becker; 28 grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Cecelia Ramaekers of Genoa; four brothers, Art Knust and Mark Knust, both of Elgin, and Joe Knust and John Knust, both of Petersburg; five sisters, Mary Ellen Frauendorfer of Lindsay, Lucille Kalinowski of Columbus, Lorraine Seier of Petersburg, Doris Schrad of Elkhart, Ind., and Janet Klein of Spalding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, three brothers and two sons.
James 'Jim' J. Rutt
James "Jim" J. Rutt, 52, died Saturday (Oct. 13, 2001) at his home in McCook.
He was born Jan. 7, 1949, at St. Catherine's Hospital in McCook, to Dick and Lee Rutt. He grew up and attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1967. He attended McCook College for one year before transferring to Mildord Technical School where he graduated with a degree in computer science. He returned to McCook and worked for Benjamin, Kasl & Corey. He later worked for Burlington Northern where he worked until health problems caused his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father; one niece; and four grandparents.
Survivors include his mother, Lee Rutt of McCook; one brother, Tom and wife, Creta Rutt of Clarkston, Wash.; one sister, Marcia Spradlin and husband, Kevin of Clarkston; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at a later date.

Julia Alberta (Lawrence) Winkler
CURTIS -- Julia Alberta (Lawrence) Winkler, 86, died Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Senior Living Choices in Curtis.
She was born May 25, 1915, at Deming, N.M., to Emmor and Pearl (Wilsey) Lawrence. She grew up on a farm west of Moorefield, went to college in Kearney and earned her degree in education.
She first taught in a district south of the family farm, using a horse as her means of transportation. Following her mother's death in 1939 she lived with her sister, Marie Sears in Curtis while teaching in the Dold District south of Maywood.
On July 27, 1942, she married
Calvert Winkler. They moved to Horsecreek, Wyo., near her father's residence. She taught school there until the couple moved to San Leandro, Calif., where she taught at the same school for 32 years until retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister Martha Barrett and Marie Sears; and two brothers, William Lawrence and Fay Lawrence, in infancy.
Survivors include three nieces, Yvonne Cole of Curtis, Roberta Tangen of Redmond, Wash., and Frances Matlock of Billings, Mont.; one nephew, Wilsey Barrett of Powell, Wyo.; and one great-nephew, Roy Cole of Curtis.
Graveside services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Moorefield cemetery in Moorefield with the Rev. Allen Hodges officiating.
There is no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or the agency of the donor's choice.

Karen L. Meager
Karen L. Meager, 61, was born April 1, 1940, to Ralph C. and Pearl M. Meager, at Laramie, Wyo. Karen graduated from McCook High School in McCook in 1958. She received her degree in business administration and management in Denver, Colo. She worked in retail management for many years in both Montana and California. She worked in newspaper advertising in Colorado and Nebraska. For the last 14 years, she worked for the Billings Gazette in Billings, Mont.
Karen was an adventurous girl with a huge heart, who loved life and all it had to offer. She loved animals and would never turn away a stray. She once befriended an abandoned, sick baby deer and nursed it back to health. It became her faithful pet.
She was a hard worker with many creative talents. She loved painting, photography, swimming, bowling, camping, boating, traveling and cooking. She was an extraordinary tap dancer, and played softball in her high school years. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Meager. Survivors include her mother, Pearl Meager of McCook; her brother, Dr. Phillip Meager and wife, Jolene of Medford, Ore.; her son, Ronald Egeland of Billings; her daughters, Cindy Kynoch and husband, Jeff of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Kristine Ehlert of Deer Lodge, Mont.; and her grandsons, Josh Ehlert and Adam Bloxham. Karen loved each and every member of her family with all her heart.
Karen will be greatly missed by all. She is in our hearts and prayers.
There will be a memorial service at Smith Funeral Home, 120 N. 26th in Billings, on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. Memorials may be sent directly to the Billings Animal Shelter, 302 Edwards St., Billings, MT.
Monroe Schmidt
FRONTIER COUNTY -- Monroe Schmidt, 78, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at his home in Frontier County.
He was born Jan. 9, 1923, at Cozad to Enno and Taliena (Hicken) Schmidt. He attended school in Cozad. He farmed near Willow Island.
On July 19, 1942, he married
Mae Morris at Lexington. In 1952 he moved to a farm in Frontier County near Harry Strunk Lake. He was a craftsman and mechanic. He was also a private pilot. He played in a dance band from Holdrege to McCook, and along the Hi-Line.
He was a member of the Golden Rod Antique Car Club, and the Antique Airplane Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Vernon.
Survivors include two sons, Myron and wife, Carolyn of McCook, and Carl and wife, Vicki of Lincoln; one daughter, Marie Foley and husband, Mike of McCook; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. Don Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the American Lutheran cemetery in Gothenburg at 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given in his name.

Fredricka 'Freda' (Weber) Evertson
CAMBRIDGE -- Fredricka "Freda" (Weber) Evertson, 96, died Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at the Cambridge Manor in Cambridge. She was born Aug. 21, 1905, at Reamsville, Kan., to Henry and Fredricka (Harms) Weber. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at the age of three weeks. She attended country school near Reamsville. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge on Jan. 22, 1961. The family moved to Cambridge when she was 17.
On July 20, 1926, she married
James Albert Weese, Sr. They made their home in Enid, Okla. After he preceded her in death, she and her children returned to Cambridge to live. On Oct. 16, 1945, she married
Lee O. Evertson. She was employed in various cafes in Cambridge, and was the owner and operator of Midget Cafe for a time. After selling the cafe, she was employed by Cambridge Memorial Hospital, retiring after 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, James and Lee; one son, James A. Weese Jr.; seven brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Freda "Pat" Corder and husband, Jack of Elwood, Arlene Dewey of Thorton, Colo., Barbara Besler of Cambridge, and Janice Breinig and husband, Duane of Arapahoe; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Don Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview cemetery in Cambridge.
Memorials may be given in her name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Aid Association of Lutherans Hospice fund.
