Harry J. Most
ATWOOD -- Harry J. Most, 79, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
He was born May 8, 1922, at Ludell, Kan., to Walter Otto and Minnie H. (Rodenbeck) Most.
He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 in several locations, including Casablanca, Africa, and the European Theatre.
On June 27, 1981, he married
Bernita A. Porter at the United Methodist Church in Atwood. He was a retired salesman, having represented Leitner Farm Supply of Atwood for 28 years. He was also a farmer.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Atwood, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6882 of Colby, Kan., and the Elks Lodge of McCook.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, his twin, Harold in 1970, and Raleigh in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Bernita of Atwood; two daughters, Linda Kay Houk of Salina, Kan., and Patty Ann Murray and husband, Jim of Wichita; four step-sons, Gerald R. Porter and wife, Phyllis of Woodland Park, Colo., Troy L. Porter and wife, Teresa of St. Francis, Kan., Royce L. Porter and wife, Anita of Colby, and Merlin D. Porter and wife, Brenda of Ludell; one step-daughter, Rhonda Porter Laufer and husband, Brian of Ludell; nine step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Wayne Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at the Atwood Fairview cemetery in Atwood. Graveside military rites will be provided by the Sam Hubbard American Legion Post No. 46 of Atwood.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home of Atwood, and Tuesday, 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, and from noon until the time of the service at the church.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Atwood United Methodist Church, or the Atwood Good Samaritan Center.

Eldon Allen Shepherd
Eldon Allen Shepherd, 70, of McCook died Saturday (October 6, 2001) at his home.
He was born June 3, 1931, at Maywood to Lennie and Cecilia K. (Dueland) Shepherd. He graduated from McCook High School in 1948.
On Sept. 27, 1959, he married
Marilyn M. Stevens at McCook. He lived in the area most of his life.
He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, the McCook Kiwanis Club, and the Red Willow Sheriffs Posse. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marilyn on June 15, 1984; and two brothers, Cecil and Donald.
Survivors include two sons, Joel Shepherd and wife, Mary of Golden, Colo., and Clay Shepherd and wife, Linda of Seward; two daughters, Kathy Glazebrook and husband, Daniel of Papillion, and Sally Shepherd of LaVista; two sisters, Margurette Francis and husband, Kenneth of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Delia Kalinski and husband, Hans of Tacoma, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Velma Shepherd of Cheyenne, Wyo; special friend, Sherry Cotton of McCook; and 13 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be given in his name.
Family and friends may sign the visitation book today and Tuesday 9 to 5 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Maurice C. Lee
Maurice C. Lee, 98, died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
He was born Sept. 30, 1903, at Louisville, Kan., to Charles W. and Laura V. (McDowell) Lee. He grew up at Long Pine, graduated from Long Pine High School in 1925. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1927.
On Sept. 30, 1932, he married
Ardath Ross. They spent their married
lives in McCook. He was a salesman for D&S; Market and Hardware, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the Long Pine Masonic Lodge 136 at Long Pine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ardath on Feb. 16, 1989; two brothers, Leslie and Mack Lee; and three sisters, Ada Lee, Veda Dodds, and Grace Maryott.
Survivors include one son, James Lee and wife, Erma of McCook; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Grandview cemetery at Long Pine with the Long Pine Masonic Lodge 136 officiating. Interment will be at the Long Pine Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name, and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Frank Lawrence Pratt
HASTINGS -- Frank Lawrence Pratt, 93, formerly of Indianola, died Friday (October 5, 2001) at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
He was born on June 3, 1908, at Indianola to Jesse and Anna (Lehn) Pratt. He lived in Rome, N.Y., from the age of two to five when his father died and the family moved back to Indianola. He attended country schools in Red Willow County and graduated from Indianola High School in 1929.
On October 9, 1940, he married
Stella Reiners. They farmed south of Indianola and east of Danbury. He also worked for the Danbury Coop Elevator in the 1960s and 1970s. They retired in Indianola in 1976. In 1995, they moved to Highland Park in McCook, and in 1999, moved to Perkins Pavilion at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings where he lived until his death.
He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church of Indianola, where he served as an altar boy, acolyte, trustee and church board member. He was also a member of the Crosier Apostolate of Hastings, and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Stella in 1999; one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Warner and husband, Donald of Hastings, and Elaine Rauch of Grand Island; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with the Rev. Daniel Rayer officiating. Interment will be at the St. Catherine's cemetery in Indianola.
The rosary service will be Monday, 7:30 p.m., at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola with Msgr. Daniel Pohl officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and Monday, 9 a.m. until time of the rosary service at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
Memorials may be given in his name to the St. Catherine's Church or the Crosier Fathers of Onamia, Minn.

Clyde Elwood Swartz
Clyde Elwood Swartz, 59, died Tuesday (October 2, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born July 13, 1942, at McCook to Clyde and Mary Lucille (Finch) Swartz. He graduated from McCook High School in 1961.
On Oct. 10, 1964, he married
Sandra S. Fortkamp at McCook. He lived in McCook his entire life. He worked at the Electric Hose & Rubber Plant.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; one brother, Leonard; and a sister-in-law, Donna Swartz.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of McCook; two sons, Troy and wife, Jennifer of McCook, and Shannon and wife, Sonia of Lexington; one daughter, Kristie Brown and husband, James of Quantico, Va.; his father, Clyde Swartz of Beaver City; two brothers, Mike Swartz of Thornton, Colo., and Kevin and wife, Mary of Dumas, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Evangelical Free Church in McCook with the Rev. Bruce Lester officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Memorials may be given in his name.
