Luella M. Schmidt
CAMBRIDGE -- Luella M. Schmidt, 75, of Bartley, died Friday (Nov. 23, 2001) at the Cambridge Manor.
She was born Aug. 26, 1926, at Cambridge to Charles and Agnes (Karash) Purvis. She grew up at Cambridge.
On April 5, 1943, she married
Kenneth Schmidt at Oberlin. They made their home farming north of Indianola, and retired to Bartley in 1975.
She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola, the Altar Society, and the Busy Bee Quilting Club. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Carol Blake and husband, John of Henderson, Nev., and Barbara Tines and husband, Charles of Venango; two brothers, Ernie Purvis of McCook, and Dale Purvis of Fall City; four sisters, Evelyn Harman, Gerry Troncin, and Joan Stone, all of Fall City, and Charlotte Maxwell of Beloit, Kan.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Mosgr. Dan Pohl officiating. Interment will follow at the Bartley Cemetery.
The rosary service will be Monday, 7:30 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.

Herbert Vaughn
OBERLIN -- Herbert Vaughn, 86, died Thursday (Nov. 22, 2001) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born March 27, 1915, in Sheridan County, Kan., to William Howard and Nellie E. (McClain) Vaughn. He was raised in Hoxie, Kan., and graduated from Hoxie High School in 1935. On March 3, 1935, he married
Nelda L. Rhodes at Oberlin. They lived in Selden, Kan., Hoxie, Dresden, Kan., and Oberlin. He was a farmer.
He attended the Assembly of God Church at Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wilma Keith; one brother, Dallas Vaughn; two sisters, Erma Ruzicka and Marjory Vaughn; one granddaughter, Laura Keith; and one son-in-law, Robert Skubal.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Vaughn of Oberlin; one son, Gary Vaughn and wife, Judy of Westminister, Colo.; two daughters, Gloria McKenna and husband, Edward of McCook, and Joyce Carlton and husband, Steve of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Royce Leitner officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin cemetery in Oberlin.
Visitation is tonight until 8 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. until the service time.

Randall 'Randy' Wayne Stewart
KEARNEY -- Randall "Randy" Wayne Stewart, 51, formerly of McCook, died Monday (Nov. 19, 2001) at his home in Kearney. He was was born Sept. 9, 1950, at Alliance to William Arthur and Bettye Anne (Solace) Stewart. He graduated from McCook High School in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War Era and was honorably discharged.
He attended cooking school at Eastside Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo. He was a chef in McCook and Kearney for the past 16 years.
He was a member of the McCook Elk's Lodge No. 1434 and the St. Louis Boxing Club.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Allen Stewart.
Survivors include his parents, Bill and Bettye Stewart of McCook; and three brothers, Michael Stewart of Houston, Texas, and Charles Stewart and Dennis Stewart, both of Kearney.
Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.
Visitation is today until 5:00 p.m., and Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ernest E. Melchert
Ernest E. Melchert, 74, died Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2001) at his home in McCook.
He was born Sept. 27, 1927, at Stratton to Oscar F. and Esther (Bauerle) Melchert. He grew up at Stratton where he received his elementary education. He farmed for a short time in Kansas before going to work for Romanoff Packing Company. He spent all of his life in and around the McCook area, and on Sept. 13, 1983, received his general high school diploma. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Willard McFadden; and one sister, Eunice Bauer.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Melchert and wife, Jan of Thornton, Colo., and John Melchert of Sunny Side, N.Y.; one daughter, Jolene Stocker and husband, Richard of Grand Island; one brother, Burdette Melchert of Tryon; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the Herrmann Funeral Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Rod Church officiating. Interment will be at the Trenton cemetery in Trenton.
Memorials may be given in his name, and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home Wednesday evening, and Friday morning before the service.

Orba L. Campbell
Orba L. Campbell, 87, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at Community Hospital of McCook. She was born April 29, 1914, to Dexter Warren and Elizabeth (Weekly) Dodge at Bartley.
In 1930, she married
John "Jack" H. Sheldon at Laird, Colo. On Nov. 18, 1967, she married
Harold Campbell at Colby, Kan. She was a member of the Christian Church in Wray, Colo. She had lived in McCook since 1956.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Jack Sheldon; .one grandson, Tom Sheldon; two infant children; and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one son, Keith LeRoy Sheldon and wife, Marva of Vancover, Wash.; four daughters, Monna Faye Reasoner and husband, Loren of Gresham, Ore., Arthada Woodbury and husband, Harvey of Portland, Ore., Avis Ulrich and husband, LeRoy, and Barbara Ann Lauer and husband, Larry, all of McCook; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in her name to McCook Home Health and Hospice.
