Lloyd Walter 'Clark' Hoagland
WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- Lloyd Walter "Clark" Hoagland, 86, of Watsonville, formerly of McCook, died October 29, 2001, at Watsonville.
He was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Red Willow County to Wareham Bartlett Clark and Augusta (Morosic) (Clark) Hoagland. He was raised in the McCook area.
He moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1942 to work for United Air Lines where he converted Boeing 247's and Douglas C47's for use during World War II. He was transferred to the San Francisco maintenance base in 1948. In 1962, after a 20-year career with United, he moved to Watsonville and became a self-employed businessman, owning the Star Motel for 10 years.
After retiring in 1972, he was active in the community of Watsonville. He played guitar at the Watsonville Senior Center for the Merry Music Makers and 5th Street Rhythmaires. He was a member of the Golden State Mobile Home Owner's League, and worked with Project Scout, helping senior citizens fill out their renters' credit for income tax purposes. He was also a member of the Pajaro Valley Genealogy Society. He authored, "Descendants of John Clark of New Haven, Connecticut, " in which he traced his family roots to the founders of the New Haven colony in Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Neal W. and Keith L. "Clark" Hoagland.
Survivors include his wife, June Rose (Brehm) Hoagland of Watsonville; two daughters, Beatrice J. Lichtenstein and husband, Kenneth of Santa Clara, Calif., and Patricia A. Spence and husband, Donald of Watsonville; one son, Robert C. Hoagland and wife, Sue of Orangevale, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.

Eileen Leora West
CAMBRIDGE -- Eileen Leora West, 80, of Cambridge, formerly of McCook, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at the Tri Valley Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born March 7, 1921, at McCook to Arthur and Hannah (Swedberg) West. She graduated from Maywood High School in 1940.
She moved to Denver, Colo., after her graduation where she worked as a housekeeper for Ethel Merman and other celebrities. She was also employed by Gates Rubber Company.
She returned to McCook in 1980, and moved into the Cambridge Parkside Manor in July of 1990 where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Carl at birth, and Wilbur in 1997.
Survivors include one brother, Donald West and wife, Yvonne of McCook; two nephews, Donald Jr. West and wife, Heather of Weatherford, Texas, and Douglas West of McCook; and one great-niece, Grace Catherine West.
Services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. Art Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook. Memorials may be given in her name.

Viola Madsen Vap
BOULDER, Colo. -- Viola Madsen Vap, 87, died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder.
She was born June 29, 1914, at McDonald, Kan., to Edward and Mathilda (Hokenson) Madsen. After her high school graduation she moved to Herndon where she taught school.
In 1937 she married
John A. Vap. They made their home on a farm north of Atwood before moving to Boulder in 1949. She was employed by the University of Colorado Dean's Office of Arts and Sciences, the Boulder Travel King, and at Centennial Conferences.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the Altar Society, both of Boulder.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John in 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Vanice J. Famme and husband, Joe of Arlington, Va., and Llewellyn Dee Plache and husband, Kurt of Boulder; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment will be at Mount Calvary cemetery in Atwood.
Visitation is tonight until 9 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home of Atwood.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Rawlins County Historical Church Fund.

Ray Search
TRENTON -- Ray Search, 99, of McCook, died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.
He was born Nov. 12, 1902, at Wymore to Morton and Marian (Spire) Search. In 1908 the family moved to McCook where he grew up and graduated from McCook High School in 1923.
On July 11, 1933, he married
Helen Frossard at Stockton, Kan. He has spent his life in McCook. In 1913, he began his theater career during the stage and silent movies era when he managed the Electric Theater and the Temple Theater. For 45 years he was manager of Fox Theater, retiring in 1971.
He was the only person in southwest Nebraska who was qualified to repair and maintain pipe organs, and was in charge of the organ at Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 91 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen on Oct. 30, 1985; one son, Charles in 1937; one brother, Harold; and one sister-in-law, Eugenia.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Search and Beverly Woolwine and husband, Richard, all of McCook; one sister, Effie Davis of Medford, Ore.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park cemetery in McCook.

Parmer 'Skeeter' Curtis Webb
TRENTON -- Parmer "Skeeter" Curtis Webb died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 64 years old.
Skeeter was born Nov. 15, 1936, at Clovis, N.M., to Clementine (Messina) and Tom Edward Webb. He graduated from Fort Sumner, N.M. in 1954.
The majority of his life he was a truck driver for teamsters and locally.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Kay Mockry; sister, Anne Burnham; and brother, Harvey Gibson.
Surviving him are his sons, Curt Webb and wife, Sharon of Houston, Texas, and Kim Webb of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter, Gina and husband, Danny Batten of Gilbert, Ariz.; three grandsons, Jamie Mockry and wife, Theresa of McCook, and Danny and Jacob Batten of Gilbert, Arizona; three granddaughters, Cyndi and Caitlyn Mockry of McCook, and Molly Batten of Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Anita and James Mockry of McCook; two brothers, Mauro Gibson and wife, Dorothy of Roswell, N. M., and Lee Roy Gibson and wife, Georgene of Red Bluff, Calif.; three sisters, Gerry Clark and Dessie Lewis of Trenton, and Marion Bailey of Santa Fe, N.M.; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Services will be Monday, at 10 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Johnny Walker officiating. Burial will be at the Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name.
The casket will be closed. Friends may sign the book at the funeral home during regular business hours all day Friday, and Saturday morning.
