George Henry Beims
ATWOOD -- George Henry Beims, 76, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born April 20, 1925, at Ludell, Kan., to Henry William and Rose Ethel (Burst) Beims. He attended grade school in Ludell and Atwood, and Atwood High School.
He was inducted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He returned to Atwood and worked at various jobs until 1957 when he was hired as Chief of Police by the City of Atwood. He remained at his job for 37 years, retiring in December 1993.
On June 14, 1968, he married
Erma Chvatal Sawer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ramie Beims and Virgil Beims; and one step-son, James W. Sawer.
Survivors include his wife, Erma of Atwood; two step-daughters, Julie Britton of Lincoln, Kan., and Carol Brown and husband, Steve of Buckner, Mo.; one sister, Grace Davis and husband, Ralph of Santa Monica, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Wayne Stephens officiating. Interment will be at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood. Honor Guard and Police Escort will be provided by the Atwood Police Department and the Rawlins County Sheriff's Department.
Visitation is tonight until 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Williams Chapel in Atwood.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Rawlins County Cancer Unit or the George H. Beims Memorial Fund to be designated to the new Atwood swimming pool fund.

Donald D. Harris
HOLDREGE -- Donald D. Harris, 56, died Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
He was born Aug. 29, 1945, at McCook to Ed and Bernie (Wilcox) Harris. He attended school at Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1963.
On June 13, 1964, he married
Rogene Renken. They made their home in Holdrege where they owned and operated Harris Oil for many years. At the time of his death, he owned and operated Harris Lawn service in Holdrege.
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, and a past member of the Holdrege Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Harris; and his father-in-law, Elmer Renken, both in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Rogene of Holdrege; two daughters, Brenda Gray and husband, Dale of Holdrege, and Janie Thorell and husband, Brice of Holdrege; one brother, Jim Harris of Lincoln; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Harris of Austin, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Doug Renken and wife, Bev of Omaha, and Dale Renken and wife, Alice of Omaha; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege with the Rev. David Sites officiating. Interment will be at the Prairie Home cemetery in Holdrege.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Holdrege. The family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m.

Bertha (Matheny) Burg
HURST, Texas -- Bertha (Matheny) Burg, 84, died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at Hurst.
She was born Nov. 30, 1916, at Norton, Kan.
On Jan. 30, 1933, she married
Albert Burg at Norton. She was a homemaker and a farm wife.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 1981; four brothers, Kenneth, Keith, Enoch and Cecil Matheny; one sister, Idella Foster; one great-grandson, Caleb James Robinson; and one granddaughter-in-law, Sherry Simpson.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Turner and husband, Gary of Hurst, and Eleanor Simpson and husband, Richard of Estes Park, Colo.; one step-daughter, Mabel Ashcraft of Durango, Colo.; one brother, Jess Matheny and wife, Lorraine of Wichita, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Frieda Matheny of Oberlin; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Golden Age Center or the United Methodist Church of Oberlin.

Norris O. Enders
OMAHA -- Norris O. Enders, 89, died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001). He was born June 23, 1912, at Ponca to John and Amelia (Buettner) Enders. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1933. He taught school at Gandy, Stratton and Curtis.
On June 24, 1936, he married
Mildred J. Tickler at St. John's Episcopal Church at Harvard. He worked for the federal government, which included work with he USDA Soil Conservation Service in Nebraska, and the USDI Bureau of Reclamation in Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico. They lived in Trenton, Indianola McCook, Superior, Grand Island, and Farmington, N.M. He also worked in agricultural development assistance in Korea. He later worked in real estate in Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Guy, Jesse, David and his twin brother, John; and three sisters, Alberta Meyers, Lucille Riegle and Frances Nelson Tudor.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Omaha; one daughter, Deeanne Barnette and husband, George Marshall of Huntersville, N.C.; one son, Keith Enders and wife, Linda of Brentwood, Tenn.; one brother, Nile Enders; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were today at the Omaha Central Presbyterian Church. Inurnment was at Harvard.

Leona Bolliger
OBERLIN -- Leona Bolliger died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at Cedar Living Center of Oberlin.
She was born July 15, 1910, at Scandia, Kan., to Mike and Inga (Hugos) Cuthbertson. She was raised in Norway, Kan., Oronoque, Kan, and Norton County, Kan. She graduated from Norton High School in 1930. She earned her teacher's certification. She taught in rural schools near Oronoque, Aurora, Kan., and Highland, Kan.
On April 21, 1934, she married
Walter Bolliger at Logan, Kan. She was a homemaker. They lived on a farm south of Reager before moving to Idaho, and later to San Joaquin, Calif., where they lived for six years. Then they moved to a farm near Norcatur, Kan.
She was a member of the Norcatur Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge, Reager HDU, Royal Neighbors, Norcatur Civic Club, and Tuesday Coffee Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; one daughter-in-law, Shelley Bolliger; two brothers, Leon and Charles Cuthbertson; and two sisters, Veva Hatcher and Kay Higgins.
Survivors include one son, Rex Bolliger of Oberlin; one daughter, Linda Broyles and husband, Jackie of Haysville, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Eva Cuthbertson of Norton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Norcatur with Jim Plotts and the Rev. Charles Keller officiating. Interment was at the Norcatur Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Norcatur Citizen's Alliance.
