Phyllis Armagost
DAVID CITY - Phyllis N. Armagost, 84, of David City, formerly of Rising City, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, in David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Rising City with the Revs. Ron Lau and Donna Dorrette officiating. Burial will be in the David City Cemetery.
Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at Knott Funeral Home in David City and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Armagost was born Oct. 17, 1918, to Albert Q. and Haittie (Horswill) Woods at Bryant, S.D. She came to Nebraska in the mid-1930s to work for her sister in a cafe in Garrison.
She married
Willard Armagost on Oct. 17, 1939. She was the owner of Buck's Tavern in Rising City.
She was a member of the church.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin L. (Sue) Armagost of Marble Falls, Texas, and Dennis G. (Lynn) Armagost of Bellwood; a daughter, Darlene M. Haase of Missouri; a sister, Vernetta Reynolds of Washington; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; three brothers; four sisters; and one great-grandchild.
James Williams
OMAHA - James P. Williams, 90, of Omaha, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Life Care Center of Omaha in Omaha.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Omaha. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Leonard cemetery in Madison.
Visitation will be after 7 p.m. Tuesday at John A. Gentleman Mortuary, 1010 N. 72nd St., Omaha.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Omaha; two sons, Phillip Williams of Columbus; Michael Williams of Polk; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Joseph Froemel
HUMPHREY - Joseph Froemel, 104, of Madison, formerly of Humphrey, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Countryside Home in Madison.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey with the Rev. James Buckley officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-8:30 p.m. Tuesday with a 3 p.m. Christian Mothers rosary and a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary, and will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey.
Rita Greisen
COLUMBUS - Rita Greisen, 50, of 34763 325th Ave., Columbus, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center with the Rev. Rod Kneifl officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Patrick and Joseph cemetery in Platte Center.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. vigil, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the church.
Mrs. Greisen was born Sept. 27, 1952 to John and Alice (Schilz) Soulliere in Columbus. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1970. Following high school she went to work for Behlen Manufacturing.
On Sept. 5, 1981, she married
David Greisen in Platte Center. In 1990 she went to work for Dr. Elliott Rustad as a secretary. She was also a housewife. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, cooking, and growing flowers.
She was a member of the church, where she served as a lector.
Survivors include her husband; her mother of Lincoln; a brother, Jerome (Joan) Soulliere of Lincoln; and an uncle and aunt, George (Betty) Soulliere of Platte Center.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, John Paul Soulliere.
Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
Robert Gerber
COLUMBUS - Robert Dean Gerber, 64, of 3940 13th St., Columbus, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Timothy White officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until service time, all at the funeral home.
Mr. Gerber was born Feb. 12, 1939 to Sam and Ann (Weber) Gerber on Columbus. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1958.
On March 25, 1963, he married
Florence Ryba in Iowa. They lived in Omaha for a year before coming back to live in Columbus. He worked as a mechanic for 18 years and owned his own repair shop for four years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert H. Gerber, Michael (Wendy) Gerber, and Albert Gerber, all of Columbus; two daughters, Julie (Christopher) Vance, and Mary Gerber, all of Columbus; two brothers, Eldon (Vera) Gerber of Omaha and Sam Gerber of Columbus; one sister Madelyn (Ed) Tobin of Grand Island; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and two sisters.
Hazel Swanson
PALMER - Hazel A. Swanson, 96, of Palmer, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer with the Rev. Ken West officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.
Mrs. Swanson was born April 10, 1907 to Raymond and Annie (Johnk) Irwin. At a young age the family moved to Genoa where they lived for eight years. They moved back to Palmer area where she attended county school.
She married
Earl Swanson on March 9, 1923, at St. Paul. They farmed in the Genoa and Palmer areas before moving into Palmer in 1960.
She was a member of the church. She enjoyed crocheting.
In 2001 she entered the Swing Bed Unit at the Howard County Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Elon Swanson of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Marvin "Mike" Swanson of Palmer, and Carl Swanson of Simpsonville, S.C.; two brothers, Cecil Irwin of Columbus and Raymond Irwin of Shelby; one sister, Ruth Hack of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961; one daughter, Helen G. Swanson; five brothers, Fred Irwin, August Rickner, Earl Rickner, Art Irwin, and Ralph Irwin; and one sister, Rena Schenck.
