Virginia Ewert
COLUMBUS - Virginia I. Ewert, 83, of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Services are 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Harriett Bedient
POLK - Harriett Bedient, 85, of Polk, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the Central City Care Center.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Friday at Arborville Congregational Church near Polk with the Rev. Lester Anderson officiating. Burial is in Arborville Cemetery.
There is no visitation.
Mrs. Bedient was born July 14, 1917 to Charles C. and Edith V. (McMurrin) Burgess in York County. She graduated from Polk High School in 1936 and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
She married
Fred Bedient on Jan. 20, 1937, at the Burgess family home. They moved to Iowa until 1942 when they moved back to Polk to the same farm where they resided for over 60 years.
She was a member of the church where she taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School superintendent and a member of the Missionary Aid Society. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Alfretta (Harold) Cummings of Weeping Water; one son, Bruce (Carol) Bedient of Polk; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane (Vern) Samuels of Polk; a sister, Marcella Perkins of Central City; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, Warren Lee Bedient.
Solt Funeral Home in Polk is in charge of the arrangements.
Eileen Asche
COLUMBUS - Eileen G. Asche, 89, of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ernest Smith and Michael Klatt officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran cemetery in Leigh.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and will continue 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.
Lillian Smejkal
CLARKSON - Lillian Smejkal, 90, of Clarkson, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Clarkson.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson with the Rev. Earl F. Underwood Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Clarkson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson and will continue Tuesday at9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Mrs. Smejkal was born Aug. 23, 1912, on a farm south of Clarkson, a daughter of James and Agnes (Pacas) Krofta. She graduated from Clarkson High School in 1930.
On Feb. 18, 1933, in Central City, she was married
to Philip Smejkal. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a school teacher. The couple resided on the farm her husband grew up on until the couple moved to Clarkson in 1978.
Mrs. Smejkal was a member of the church, where she served as an elder, and was also a member of ZCBJ, Presbyterian women and Marta Circle.
Survivors include one daughter: Marjorie Stonacek of California; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1984; and one sister: Agnes Shonka.
Donations can be made to the church.
Maudeline Rupprecht
CORNELL, Wis. - Maudeline Rupprecht, 93, of Cornell, Wis., formerly of Columbus, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Cornell Area Care Center in Cornell, Wis.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with the Rev. Mark Bridgman officiating. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus.
Arlene Poulas
SCHUYLER - Arlene Dorothy Poulas, 82, of Schuyler, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at the Extended Care Unit of Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with lay minister Jerry L. Kracl officiating. Burial will be at the Schuyler Cemetery.
Visitation will be noon-6 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, all at the funeral home.
Mrs. Poulas was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Schuyler to Charles and Gusta (Mensik) Vanicek. She graduated from the eighth grade at District 61 in Colfax County.
She married
John Poulas on Feb. 21, 1944, in Clarkson. They farmed 10 miles north of Schuyler until November, 1976, when they moved to Schuyler.
Survivors include several cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Memorials may be directed to the Schuyler Senior Citizens Center.
Albert Jambor
DAVID CITY - Albert Jambor, 88, of David City, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in David City with Monsignor Adrian Herbek officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Plasi cemetery in rural Prague.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. today at Knott Funeral Home in David City and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. wake service at the church.
Mr. Jambor was born March 31, 1914, in Prague to Joseph S. and Emilie (Ostry) Jambor. He received his education at Wahoo.
On Oct. 20, 1943, he married
Rose Pernicek. He was a farmer and soil conservationist.
He was a member of the church. He served as director and chairman for 11 years of Cottonwood Creek Water Natural Resources District. He was a member of and elected to the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission in 1972. He was a member of the Prague Coop Grocery board for 30 years, a Saunders County ASCS committee member and a District 94 School Board member.
He was proud of his Czech heritage and enjoyed Czech music. He played baseball until he was 49 years old. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Rose of David City; two sons, Allen (Carmen) Jambor of Lincoln and Galen (Alice) Jambor of Prague; one daughter, Jeanne (Albin) Jakub of Schuyler; one brother, Ernest (Jeanette) Jambor of Prague; two sisters, Alice Vojtech of Omaha and Lorene (Louis) Woita of David City; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond Jambor and Ivan Jambor; and two sisters, Agnes Osmera and Lydia Pospisil.
