Albion Beck
CENTRAL CITY - Albion Bernard "Beanie" Beck, 74, of Clarks died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks with the Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. Burial is in the Clarks Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary.
Mr. Beck was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Clarks to Metro and Mary (Derbala) Beck. He grew up in the Clarks area and graduated from Clarks High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He married
Alyce M. Taczek Oct. 16, 1952, in Genoa. They farmed in the Clarks area. He was a member of the church, the Clarks Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post in Silver Creek.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Mike) Mahoney of St. Edward, and Sandra (Kevin) Smoyer of Grand Island; two sons, Tom (Teri) of Clarks and Sam (Robyne) of Columbus; two brothers, Charles and Donald, both of Clarks; seven sisters, Josephine of West Point, Anna Starostka of Osceola, and Katherine Kowenski, Dorothy Gonsier and Barbara Savage, all of Columbus, Rose Anderson of Polk, and Stella Gonsier of Central City; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 27, 1993; and two brothers, Edward and Walter.
Marie Bradley
DAVID CITY - Marie Ellen Bradley, 92, of Rising City died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Knott Funeral Home in David City with the Rev. John Ewton officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Rising City.
Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bradley was born Dec. 22, 1907, in Rising City to John and Lizzie Jennie Maggie (Brammier) Benard. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a master's degree in teaching.
She married
Glen Bradley. She was a teacher at Osceola. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rising City, the teachers association and the Rebekah Lodge. She loved cooking, politics, animals and was community oriented.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Sharon of Rising City; one brother, Dale (Irene) Fadschild of Rising City; one sister, Wilma Carraher of Michigan; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Gary Lee; and one sister, Mildred.
Linda Clark
COLUMBUS - Linda R. Clark, 41, of Genoa died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at BryanLGH Hospital East Campus in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus.
John Austin
ALBION - John Henry Austin, 91, of Newman Grove, formerly of Albion, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion with the Rev. Frank Baumert officiating. Burial is in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion with a 7:30 p.m. wake. Visitation continues from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Austin was born Dec. 15, 1908, on a farm south of St. Edward to Ralph Vernon and Anna Via (Force) Austin. He attended school in Albion.
He married
Deloris Hyland Nov. 24, 1936, in Albion. He worked at Norco Feed Mills in Albion for 36 years before retiring in 1969. He was a member of the church, the Knights of Columbus and a 28-year member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department. He entered the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in 1999.
Survivors include three sons, John E. of Omaha, Nick F. (Marilyn) of Fremont and Daniel L. (Lorraine) of Columbus; one daughter, DeAnna of Norfolk; three sisters, Evelyn Baker of California, Pauline Donscheski of Albion and Georgia Baker of St. Edward; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 3, 1987; two brothers, Clayton and Aubrey; and one sister, Effie Green.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Ralph Riley
ALBION - Ralph William Riley, 72, of Grand Island, formerly of Albion, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion with the Rev. Rose Bartelson officiating. Burial is at the Rose Hill cemetery in Albion with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Riley was born June 9, 1927, in the Bradish community of Boone County to Louis W. and Frieda L. (Bantz) Riley. He received his elementary education at Albion city schools and attended Albion High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines on March 30, 1945, and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1949.
He married
Janett Arlene Allison Aug. 15, 1950, in Fullerton. They made their home in Albion. He worked two years at the ammunition plant at Mead. He then worked construction at various places and later worked at Tom Johnson's feedlot from 1965-80. In 1979, he moved to Columbus and began working at Fleischer Manufacturing until the early 1990s. He entered the Veterans Home in Grand Island in 1992.
Survivors included five sons, John (Janice), Jody (Nancy) and Randy, all of Columbus, Jim (Jackie) of Grand Island and Jerry of Albion; one daughter, Sondra (Rodney) Schaefer of Republic, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Hazel Wiegardt
DAVID CITY - Hazel P. Wiegardt, 96, of Grand Island, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the Lakeview Rehab in Grand Island.
Memorial services were today at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in David City.
Mrs. Wiegardt was born Sept. 14, 1903, in Rockford, Ill., and raised in the Garrison area.
She married
William "Bill" Hunsche and they lived in Butler and Seward counties during their married
life. She attended beauty school in Beatrice and worked a short time in Lincoln before opening her own shop, "Ritz" in York.
In 1938, she married
Christian J. Wiegardt in Schuyler. They lived in York were she continued operating the beauty shop and took up golf. She won numerous golfing awards as well as tournaments.
After World War II, she sold the shop and they moved to Las Vegas. While there she worked and later managed a Standard Oil station. In 1946, they returned to Nebraska and she purchased a farm near Bellwood. While living on the farm by Bellwood she worked at the egg plant in David City and Dale Electronics in Columbus. She lived on the farm after her husband's death in 1988, at which time she moved to Grand Island. She became a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island and enjoyed helping in church activities. She was active in Dale's Golf League, which later became VanBerg's Ladies Golf. She also enjoyed horse racing, fishing, cards, crocheting and watching sports. She played an accordion and piano with groups during her earlier years.
Survivors include one son, Lowell (Esther) Hunsche of Grand Island; two daughters, Joyce (Darald) Napier of Bellwood and Darla Jean (Ronald) Bishop of Grand Island; three grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; two great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and two sisters, Viva McCall of David City and Dorothy Hull of Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Arlie, Earl and Lloyd Hascall; and one grandson.
Knott Funeral Home in David City was in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Pfeifer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Barbara Jean Pfeifer, 44, of Charlotte, N.C., died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Services were March 14 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Hooper. The Rev. William D. L'Heureux officiated.
Mrs. Pfeifer was born Feb. 3, 1956, in West Point to Leo and Verdeen Uhing. She graduated from Loganview High School in 1974. She worked for Banker's Life in Lincoln for 10 years.
She married
Lee A. Pfeifer on Oct. 15, 1983. In 1985, they moved to Fresno, Calif., where she worked for an accounting firm and several insurance companies. In 1997, she moved to Charlotte. She was an organist at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper for 10 years. She belonged to the St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Charlotte.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Aaron and Eric; a stepson, Anthony; and her father.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Lloyd Bialas
COLUMBUS - Lloyd Bialas, 75, 1728 Woodland Drive, died Tuesday, March, 21, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with the Revs. Dan Keller and Mark Tomasiewicz officiating. Burial is at the All Saints cemetery in Columbus with military rites by the American Legion Honor Guard Hartman Post 84.
Visitation is from 3-9 today at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. vigil. Visitation continues Thursday from 8-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Bialas was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Nance County to Charles and Mary (Sturek) Bialas. He graduated from Fullerton High School.
He married
Rita Swantek May 25, 1954, in Pilsno. He lived and farmed near Silver Creek for 43 years before moving to Columbus in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1945 to November 1946 stationed in Hawaii. He enjoyed fishing and listening to Polish music. He was a member of the church, former member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Krakow, and a member of the Hartman Post 84 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joanne of Lincoln and Katherine (John) Wright of Columbus; two sons, Randy (Linda) of Holdrege and Robert (Anna) of Grand Island; four sisters, Belbina Zona of St. Cloud, Minn., Frances Zelazny of Silver Creek, Rosie (Ted) Tworek of Omaha and Dorothy of Columbus; eight brothers, Edward (Helen), Daniel (Emily) and Walter (Beverly), all of Silver Creek, Johnnie (Maxine), Louie (Anne) and Steve (Emily), all of Fullerton, and Leonard (Alice) and Richard, all of Columbus; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.
Emma Frauendorfer
HUMPHREY - Emma K. Frauendorfer, 85, of Humphrey died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey with the Rev. Stephen Gutgsell officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.
Visitation is from 3-8:30 p.m. Thursday with a 3 p.m. Christian Mothers Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. scripture/rosary and Friday from 8:30-10 a.m., all at Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey.
Mrs. Frauendorfer was born June 25, 1914, in Howells to Joseph and Anna (Kovar) Vavra. She attended Sacred Heart School in Cornlea.
She married
Albert Frauendorfer Sept. 16, 1931, in Cornlea. She was a lifetime resident of the Humphrey-Cornlea area. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Francis Church and a member of the church.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin (Marcella) of Madison and Donald (Nancy) and Tom (Sandy), all of Humphrey; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 29, 1995; one sister, Anna; one half-brother, Rudy Herrout; one half-sister, Mary Satchell; five stepbrothers, Emil, Joe, James, Jerry and Rudolph; and four great-grandchildren.
