SCHUYLER - Chester Keller, 87, of Schuyler died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at his home.

ALBION - Pauline Wallick, 78, of Columbus died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.
Services are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Herbert Alpers
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Herbert John Alpers, 90, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Prescott Valley.
A private family memorial service was held Monday at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley with family members officiating.
Mr. Alpers was born Jan. 22, 1910, in Clatonia to John and Anne (Henske) Alpers. He married
Janet E. Murphy on Sept. 1, 1938.
He had a been a teacher for 37 1/2 years, instructing shop in Columbus and Rokeby schools and later in the Winslow and Avondale-Goodyear, Ariz., school districts.
He attended the Methodist church and was active in many school clubs.
He was a former vice president and president of the Nebraska Industrial Arts Association.
Retiring in 1972, he retained his love for woodworking and also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Herbert J. II of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Barbara J. Vallero of San Diego and Sandi S. Bowen of Parris, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Maurice Cox
CEDAR RAPIDS - Maurice Leonard Cox, 83, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Rev. Jurdan Counts officiating. Burial is at Sunset cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will resume Monday at the church from 8:30 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Cox was born May 4, 1916, in Boone County to Gilbert M. and Emma (Peterson) Cox on the family homestead. He received his education at Boone County District 15 and Cedar Rapids High School.
He married
Marjorie H. Robinson on Jan. 23, 1941, at Albion. Following the marriage, he took over the family farm operation and was actively engaged in farming and raising livestock until 1995, when he retired. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids in 1982.
He was a member of the church and served as secretary of Boone County School District 15, as well as being on the board of directors of the Cedar Rapids Cooperative and the Cedar Rapids State Bank. He was a conservation advocate and practitioner and enjoyed participating in parades and trail rides.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James L. (Sue) of Cedar Rapids and Larry R. (Jean) of Henderson; two sisters, Margaret Zaruba and Elizabeth "Betty" Cox, both of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Edwin of Cedar Rapids; one sister-in-law, Dorothy of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Louise; one brother, William; one brother-in-law, Tom Zaruba; and his parents.

GENOA - Deloris Battles, 69, of Genoa, died Friday, March 17, 2000, at Genoa Community Hospital/LTC.
Services are pending with Hasch-Patrick Funeral Chapel in Genoa.
Charlotte Walla
LINCOLN - Charlotte V. Walla, 81, of Adams, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at the Goldcrest Nursing Home in Adams.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lincoln. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Schuyler cemetery in Schuyler.
Visitation is 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Butherus-Maser and Love Mortuary in Lincoln, with a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation continues at the mortuary from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Walla was born June 14, 1918 in Schuyler to Joseph and Anna Vavra.
Survivors include two daughters, Vance (Dr. Lew) Birkmann and Jane (Dr. Robert) Byington, all of Lincoln; one son, Dr. Don (Lisa) of Lincoln; one sister, Marie (Emerson) Eller of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; three sisters, Valerie Vavra, Lucille Hrabak and Phyllis Johnson; one brother, Joseph Vavra; one brother-in-law, Richard Hrabak; and her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Muscular Sclerosis Fund, Goldcrest Nursing Home in Adams or St. Joseph's Building and Landscaping Fund in Lincoln.
Ludmila Rejda
DAVID CITY - Ludmila A. Rejda, 83, of Brainard died Friday, March 17, 2000 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard with the Rev. Stephen Cooney officiating. Burial is at the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard and continues after 6 p.m. today at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary.
Mrs. Rejda was born April 2, 1916, near David City to Edward F. and Anna (Hladky) Janak. She attended Bruno School, District 61.
On June 26, 1939, she married
Joseph Rejda at Bruno. The couple farmed northeast of Brainard for 28 years before moving to Brainard in 1967. She was a homemaker and also a cook at Hilltop Cafe in Brainard for several years. In addition, she was a cook at East Butler Schools in Brainard for 11 years.
She was a member of the church, PCCW and the Brainard Community Club, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores (Mack) Johnson of Omaha and Carolyn (Leonard) Dvorak of Brainard; one brother, Ray (Eleanor) Janak of Omaha; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972; one sister, Clara Rejda; two brothers, Rudolph Janak and Theodore Janak; and her parents.

STROMSBURG - Lura Ann Clausen, 92, of Stromsburg, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg, with the Rev. Kerry Relihan officiating.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Chester cemetery in Chester, with the Rev. Ray Berry officiating.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mrs. Clausen was born March 16, 1908, in Hubbell to James and Cynthia (Duncan) Davenport. She attended school in Chester, graduating in 1927. She then attended Peru State College for one year.
She married
Everett Leroy Clausen on May 14, 1930, in Hebron. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, reading and crafts.
Survivors include three daughters, Glendora (Sam) Bell of Stromsburg, Claudette (Bob) Slaughter of Pueblo, Colo., and Charlotte (Bob) Brancon of Lakewood, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Ellie of Boulder Creek, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Elvin and Eugene; six brothers; and three sisters.
