Margaret Ortmeier, 65
Services were Fri., Sept. 27 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Snyder for Margaret Ortmeier, 65 of rural Scribner, who died Sept. 23, 1996 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Burial was in St. Leo's Catholic cemetery in Snyder.
Margaret Klitz Ortmeier was born July 12, 1931 in Dodge, Neb. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School in rural West Point, St. Leo's Catholic School in Snyder and was a 1949 graduate of Scribner High School. She graduated from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont with a degree in elementary education.
She taught in schools in the Dodge County rural school system, as well as at Pebble Valley Catholic School in Monterey. For the past 11 years, she had taught at St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Dodge, completing a 25-year teaching career in the Catholic school system.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Snyder, St. Leo's Christian Mothers' Society, St. Leo's Guild and was a past president of St. Leo's Parish Council. She was also a member and past president of the Snyder Veterans' of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 8439 and a member of the Modern Belles Club.
She married
Wilbert Ortmeier Dec. 28, 1960 in Snyder.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbert; a son, Mark Ortmeier of Wayne, Neb.; a daughter, Jane (Mrs. Daniel) Stratmann of West Point, Neb; her mother, Gertrude Klitz of West Point; five brothers, Francis Klitz of West Point; Charles Klitz of Omaha; Joe Klitz of Clarks, Neb.; Eugene Klitz of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and Michael Klitz of O'Neill, Neb.; six sisters, Rosemary Larsen and Patricia Helle, both of Omaha; Dorothy Heimann of Bowie, Md.; Jan Reilley of Fairfax, Va.; Rita Walter of Manchester, Mo. and Mary Jo Wilson of Blair and five grandchildren.
Humlicek Funeral Home in Dodge was in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis Stafford, 77

Phyllis Anne Stafford, 77, of Norfolk died Friday, April 25, 1997 at Heritage of Bel Air.
A memorial service is pending. There will be no visitation as she donated her remains to the Nebraska Anatomical Board for research and educational purposes.
Stafford was born Oct. 24, 1919 in Gosper County, Nebr. to Henry and Rhoda Hanson. She graduated from Holbrook High School and was educated at Kearney State Teachers College and Dana College in Blair. She taught school for 32 years in Nebraska, including schools in Sumner, Creighton, Red Cloud and Arlington. On Feb. 14, 1942, she married
Bill W. Stafford. They first lived near Fort Riley, Kans. After World War II, they lived in several Nebraska communities where they both taught school. They moved to Norfolk in 1988.
Survivors are her husband, Bill; a son and daughter - in - law, Richard and Kay of Norfolk; a granddaughter Sarah Baker and her husband, Bryan, of Papillion; a grandson, Eric Stafford of Lincoln; a sister, Betty Dewhurst and husband Don, of Sebastian, Fla. and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother and one sister.

Vince and Stacey ( Heim ) Ward of Waterloo, Iowa, are the parents of a daughter, Connor Mackenzie, who was born April 15, 1997.
She weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, measuring 19 1/2 inches long.
Her grandparents are Danny and Nancy Berg of Valley; and C. Allan and Marian Ward of Blair.
Her great - grandparents are Verna Miller of Plainview; Carolee Heim of Daly City, Calif.; Elizabeth Berg of South Sioux; Gladys Matzen of Blair; and Merle and Ellen Ward of Herman.
Kenneth C. Booze, Sr., 74

Kenneth C. Booze, Sr., 74 died Saturday, April 26, 1997 at his home in Cedar Bluffs, Nebr.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Eddie Masters will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 854 and American Legion Post No. 20 at Ridge cemetery in Fremont.
Kenneth C. Booze, Sr., was born May 21, 1922 at Frankfort, S.D. He moved to Fremont at the age of 13. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, in the Asiatic Pacific, from May 24, 1944 to Nov. 8, 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After his discharge, he returned to Fremont and drove truck for Herman Trucking.
In 1952, he became a Fremont Police office and in 1954 moved to Arlington where he was police officer for several years. He also was a police officer in Fort Calhoun for a time. He retired in 1985 and worked part - time in Blair as a sheriff's deputy and correction officer. He moved to Cedar Bluffs three years ago.
On Sept. 22, 1941 he married
Elsie L. Krause at Ponca, Nebr.
He was a member of the Police Officers Association of Nebraska.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; sons and daughters - in - law, Ronald and Diana Booze of Prague; Kenneth, Jr. and Nancy Booze of Valley; Roger and Carol Booze of Fremont and Ty and Janet Booze of Cedar Bluffs; a daughter and son - in - law, Glenyce and Marvin Opfer of Omaha; his mother, Jessie Mirr of North Bend; brothers, Alvin of Prague, Lawrence of Fremont and Willis of Jeffers, Minn.; a sister, Betty D. Johnson of Fremont; a step - brother, Jerry Mirr of Tucson, Ariz.; step - sisters, Eldora (Mrs. George) Mortensen of Indiana, Delores Berryman of California; Betty (Mrs. Clyde) Phillippe of Fremont, Nancy Reed of Omaha and Carolyn Lynch of Colorado; 15 grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Booze; a brother, Virgil Booze; a daughter, Paulette Booze; a step - brother, Eugene Mirr and a granddaughter, Angela Booze.

Gertrude M. Harvey died Friday, April 25, 1997 at Community Care of America Nursing Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Memorial services were held at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in Memory Gardens, Brea, Calif.
Gertrude M. Harvey was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Hartford, Ark. to John and Nancy White. She and her husband were in business many years in California. The last 15 years, she had lived in a nursing home in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughter and son - in - law, Jim and Rae Taylor of Blair; six grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Laura Taylor, Kim and Terry Conrad of Blair; Steve Taylor of Atlanta, Ga.; Raelene Sprague of San Ramon, Calif.; Ron and Jon Slavens of El Segundo, Calif.; seven great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; her husband, Emory Lee Harvey and a son, Raymond A. Slavens.
Sam F. Selby, 89

Sam F. Selby died Thursday, April 24, 1997 in Renton, Wash.
Helen Skov of Blair is his sister - in - law.
Sam F. Selby was born at Hendersen, Iowa Jan. 17, 1908.
On July 29, 1932, he married
Leone Larsen. He farmed north of Arlington until 1955 when they moved to Seattle, Wash.
He worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle until he retired.
Survivors include his wife, Leone; two daughters, Darlene Morris of Kent, Wash. and Dee Menking of Renton, Wash.; six granddaughters; one grandson; 10 great - granddaughters; three great - grandsons; several great - great - grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ray Rutledge of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Clarence Strassheim of Denver, Colo.
Bonnie M. Whalen, 45

Bonnie M. Whalen, 45 of Blair died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at her home after a long illness with cancer.
Services were April 22 at Mary Our Queen Church. Rev. Carl A. Salinitro and Rev. James Schwertley officiated. Burial was in Ridgewood cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Whalen was born May 24, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from Marian High school in Omaha in 1969. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1975 and attended Colorado State University. She was vice president of Central Veterinary Supply Co. She married
Phil Larkin 19 years ago.
She was a member of the Junior Arabian Horse Association of Nebraska, worked with Special Olympics, Girl Scouts and the Odyssey of the Mind. She was also a volunteer computer teacher in Blair Community Schools.
Survivors are her husband, Phil; a daughter, Kathleen Whalen Larkin, both of Blair; her mother, Edna Jean ( Mrs. Lewis ) Whalen Shields of Scottsdale, Ariz; a sister, Kathy Rohman of Blair and a brother, Daniel F. Whalen of Solvang, Calif.
Honorary bearers were Bonnie Sandleben, Barb LeRouge, Mary Socha, Barb Kabes, Susan Baron and Ceis McCarthy Ramey.
Paulette Smith was organist. Gerald Holbrook was vocalist.
Memorials may be given to the Arabian Hose Association of Nebraska or the Methodist Hospital Hospice Program.
John A. Gentleman Westside Chapel in Omaha was in charge of arrangements.
