F. Warren Wheatley, 81

F. Warren Wheatley, 82 of Wymore, Nebr. died Thursday, April 24, 1997 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services will be Monday at the Wymore Presbyterian Church. Dr. Cynthia Ordway officiated. Graveside services will be Monday at the Blair cemetery with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1251.
There will be visitation at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the service.
F. Warren Wheatley was born Jan. 10, 1916 at Longmont, Colo. He moved to Lincoln as a teen and graduated from Lincoln High School. He served in the U. S. Navy from Nov. 25, 1940 to Dec. 18, 1946 during World War II and from May 7, 1951 to June 20, 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was assigned to the USS Nevada at Pearl Harbor; the USS Midway and the USS Phoenix. He was a welder for Wedgewood Iron Works in Omaha and then at Kelly Ryan Equipment Co. in Blair until his retirement at the age of 65. He moved to Wymore from Blair in 1978.
On May 19, 1943, he married
Marie Jensen in Omaha.
He was a member of Anderson American Legion Post No. 25 at Wymore where he was an active member of the Color Guard. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and was a former member of the VFW Post No. 1251 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie in Blair.
Survivors are his wife, Marie; a sister, Marjorie Nelson of Fort Collins, Colo.; and by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklyn and Minnie Mae (McGinnis) Wheatley and a brother, Rev. John Wheatley.
Memorials may be given to the Wymore Presbyterian Church.

Anna Barton, 90

Anna Barton, 90 of Blair died Sunday April 6, 1997 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. A family graveside service will be held in the Avoca, Iowa, Cemetery.
Anna Barton was born Dec. 29, 1906 to Ray and Mary ( Kruse ) Triplett. She attended Wayne State College after graduating from Herman High School. She was a 1928 graduate of Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing.
In 1934, she married
Roscoe H. Barton in Omaha. They lived in Chicago after their marriage until 1954, when they moved to Denver, Colo. They resided there until 1967, at which time they moved to Sun City, Ariz. In 1994, she moved to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. From 1954 to 1967, she was head nurse of the Tonsil Department at Children's Hospital in Denver.
She was a member of the United Protestant Women of Sun City and the Sun City Golf League.
Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Mary Lou and Vaughn Farrens, Tekamah and Beverley and Donald Kelley of Lilleton, Colo.; two sons and daughters - in - law, Douglas Charles and Janette Barton, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Richard and Carole Barton, Loveland, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Lamb, Marion Brodersen and Donna Rae Jordan, all of Blair; and one brother, Jack Triplett of Tekamah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and a sister.
Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel Fund.

Florence Hansen, 100
11/16/1896 - 4/23/97
Florence Hansen, 100, died Wednesday, April 22, 1997 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and on Friday until service time.
Florence Hansen was born Nov. 16, 1896 to William and Mary ( Jensen ) Johnson in Clifton, Ill. The family moved to Nebraska in 1898 where she spent the rest of her life.
On Oct. 16, 1917, she married
Lester N. Hansen at Blair. They farmed near Blair until his death in 1972.
Survivors are her daughters, Evelyn ( Mrs. William ) Wrenn of Columbus, Nebr. and Lorraine ( Mrs. Howard ) Long of Miami, Ariz.; four granddaughters; great - grandchildren and great - great - grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lyle Hunkins, 93

Lyle Beecher Hunkins, 93, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997 at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.
A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Beaver Crossing, Nebr., cemetery on Saturday at 2 p.m.
There will be visitation one hour before the service.
Hunkins was born July 4, 1903 to Orin S. and Edith ( Beecher ) Hunkins near Beaver Crossing. He graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1922 and earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees in education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
On Aug. 1, 1927, he married
Mildred Rachel Godding in Beaver Crossing. He was a junior high school principal in the Nebraska communities of Elk City, Havelock, Falls City and Columbus. He finished his career as county superintendent of schools for Gage County at Beatrice. He was honored as the top district manager in the state by World Book Encyclopedia.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Jordon Medal holder and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a 63 - year member of the Lions Club, serving as president in Columbus and Beatrice and as secretary to the District Governor. He received the Melvin Jones Award for Service in 1994 from the Blair Lions Club. He was a life member of the National Education Association and the Nebraska Education Association, a member of Phi Delta Kappa, The National School Masters Association and was a life member of the PTA.
Survivors are his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Marilyn Gentry of Blair; sons and a daughter - in - law, Eugene E. Hunkins of Livingston, Tex. and Wayne E. and Margaret Hunkins, Santa Ana, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great - grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Lyle Hunkins Scholarship Fund, University of Nebraska Foundation.
James "Olie;" Olsen, 70

James "Olie;" Olsen, 70 of Blair died Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair cemetery with military honors.
James Olsen was born Nov. 23, 1926 in Omaha to James Sylvester and Dorothy O. (Gustin) Olsen. He grew up on the family farm north of Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1945. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer at one time.
He served in the US Navy from August of 1945 to August of 1946. He also served with the See Bee's in the early 1950s.
He was a dealer for the Wilson Seed Corn Company and owned Olie's Tavern in Blair for 10 years. He also worked at Omaha Public Power District for 24 years.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars, Blair American Legion and the Blair Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors are his five children, James of Blair; Thomas of Newport Beach, Calif.; Tim of Blair; Julie Ann Olsen of Omaha; Terri Olsen of Omaha; three grandchildren, Andrew, Zach and Alec; his mother, Dorothy of Carter Lake, Iowa; a sister, Ella Mae Skinner of Carter Lake; two brothers, Steve and Stan, both of Carter Lake and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, George.
Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or the Blair Rescue Squad.
