Roy V. Rutledge, 96 died April 6, 1997 at the Oakland Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Nebr.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at Palmquist - Pelan Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Morton will officiate. Private burial services will be in the Herman Cemetery.
Mildred M. Butterfield, 84
5/18/12 - 5/8/97 Mildred M. Butterfield, 84, of Arlington died Thursday, May 8, 1997 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, Nebr.
Services were Monday, May 12 at the Arlington Community Church. Rev. Lee J. Milligan officiated. Burial was in the Kennard Cemetery.
Mildred M. Butterfield was born May 18, 1912 at Blair. She was a graduate of Plainview High School at Plainview, Nebr. and attended Midland College in Fremont during the summers. She taught school for three years in a rural Dodge County school northwest of Fremont and worked for several years at the former Cornhusker Grocery Store in Fremont.
On May 29, 1932, she married
Roy W. Butterfield. She moved to California in 1941, worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and then Bank of America as a bookkeeper while living in Petaluma. She moved to Arlington in 1976.
She was a member of Arlington Community Church and the United Church of Christ Women. She had served on the Arlington Library Board.
Survivors are four sisters, Wilma Plugge and Helena Jensen, both of Arlington; Dorothy Plugge of Blair and Verna Helmsing of Foristell, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Carrie ( Schultz ) Utermann; her husband, who died July 15, 1975 and a sister, Carrie Rosenbaum.
Pallbearers were Lloyd Petersen, Warren Jensen, Robert Plugge, Nate Plugge, Ronnie Rosenbaum and Leland Vogt.
Memorials may be given to the Arlington Community Church or the Arlington Library.
Reckmeyer - Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Long, 92

Thelma T. Long, 92 of Blair died Sunday, May 11, 1997 at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Campbell - Aman Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Thelma T. Long was born in the York Creek vicinity northwest of Blair to Ludwig and Tillie ( Fuess ) Jensen August 1, 1904. She graduated from Blair High School 1922 and was a country school teacher.
On Feb. 27, 1924 she married
Weston Long in Blair. They were in the trucking business for 10 years and then farmed in the Blair area until his death December 24, 1966. She continued to live in her Blair home until Aug. 1, 1995 when she moved to Crowell Memorial Home.
Survivors are her son and daughter - in - law, Rolland and Evelyn Long; five grandchildren, Wesley Long, Marvin Long, Kaylene Gray, Larry Willmott and Rita Willmott; 10 great - grandchildren; five great - great - grandchildren and two step - great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Norma Willmott; a grandson, Leslie Willmott and a sister, Ruth Cook.
Mildred Thomas

Mildred Iola Thomas, 86 died Thursday, May 1, 1997 at her home in Redding, Calif.
Following cremation in California, she will be buried at the Blair Cemetery.
Eugene Thomas of Blair is her son.
Mildred Iola Thomas was born July 21, 1910 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Martin B. and Winnie Ellen ( Moore ) Wood. On Nov. 15, 1926, she married
Leslie Carlton Thomas in Blair. They lived in Iowa where they were first married
before moving to Blair. In 1963, they moved to Redding, where they spent the rest of their lives.
Survivors are her sons, Eugene of Blair; Michael and Patrick of Redding and Terry of Arlington, Wash.; a daughter, Gloria Striebel of Redding; 17 grandchildren; 24 great - grandchildren; one great - great - granddaughter; two brothers, George Wood of Indianapolis, Ind. and Bobby Wood of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1968; a son, Gail in 1997; two grandsons and one great - grandchild.
Taleta Elfeldt, 87

Taleta E. Elfeldt, 87, Hastings, Nebr., died Monday, May 5, 1997 at Villa Grace in Hastings.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Hallam Zion Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Beade is officiating.
Taleta E. Elfeldt was born July 4, 1909 at Hallam, Nebr. to Ottow and Anna ( Schaad ) Elfeldt. She grew up in Lincoln, attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and graduated from Dana College in Blair. She was a teacher at Huntley, Minden and Blair and taught for over 40 years. She moved to Hastings in 1987.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hastings.
Survivors are her nieces and nephews, Mary Jo Kubik of Omaha; Janet Cameron of Marshall, Minn.; Shirley Bair of Lincoln; Robert Worley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and many great - nieces and nephews and great - grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and a twin sister.
Memorials may be given to Villa Grace.
Brand - Wilson Mortuary in Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Lena M. Meador Springgate, 96 of Fremont, died Monday, May 5, 1997 at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Leland Foreman of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery.
Lena Springgate was born Feb. 9, 1901 to Ofallow E. and Lydia Ann ( Hall ) Meador in Breckenridge County, Kentucky. She grew up in Kentucky and moved to Arlington in 1915. She came to Fremont in the late 1920's and moved to Cedar Bluffs in 1951. She returned to Fremont in 1979 and moved to Omaha three years later. She had lived at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since July, 1988. On June 23, 1917 she married
Owen O. Springgate in Fremont.
Survivors are two sons, Jesse Springgate of Cedar Bluffs and Henry Springgate of Irvington, Kent.; five daughters, Fran Tracy of Omaha; Melva Pierce of Kansas City, Mo.; Virginia Beale of North Little Rock, Ark.; Lydia ( Mrs. Charles ) Buxter of Omaha and Betty E. Johnson of Fremont; a brother, Henry Meador of Fremont; over 130 grandchildren, great - grandchildren and great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen on Feb. 11, 1951; her parents; sons, Donald and Alvin; three daughters, Lulu and Dolly, both infants; and Luceal Bentley; five brothers, Edward, Lewis, Andrew "Joe;", Wathan and an infant, Carl; and five sisters, Annie Johnson, Evelyn Connor, Ethel Saunders, Grace Norton and Carrie Hook.
Memorials may be given to A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Sarah Beatrice ( Bee) Brewer, 96 of Council Bluffs, Iowa and formerly of Loveland, Iowa died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.
Services were Monday at Hennessey - Hurley - Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Rev. Ron Wymer officiated. Burial was in the Branson cemetery at Loveland.
Sarah Beatrice Brewer was born Sept. 22, 1900 in Galesburg, Ill. to Benjamin F. and Lura ( Forster) Butler. She lived in Loveland most of her life, riding the train to school in Missouri Valley. She married
Myles D. Brewer in 1918. They continued to live in Loveland until his death in 1982. She wrote a column for the Missouri Valley Times for many years; worked at Blue Star Foods and ran a grocery store in Loveland where the door was never locked.
Survivors are her children, Reginald ( Rex) Brewer of Missouri Valley; Jacqueline Wimer of Council Bluffs; John Brewer of Council Bluffs; Gwendolyn Little of Blair; a sister, Phyllis G. Wilkins of Omaha; 21 grandchildren; 37 great - grandchildren; 11 great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myles; sons, Morgan D. and Maxhall D. and a brother, John Butler.
Casketbearers were her grandsons and great - grandsons, Myles Wimer, Scott Roberts, T. J. Williams, David Spalding, Jacob Brewer, Elvin McFerrin, Zachary Brewer, Cameron Williams and William McFerrin.
Honorary bearers were Ross McFerrin, Zachary Brewer, David Spaulding and Cameron Williams.
Musicians were Marjorie Kraushaar and Amy Brewer.
