Bonnie R. Updike, 66 of Fremont died Sunday, May 4, 1997 at A. J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Art Hill is officiating. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery at Fremont.
Harry Fankhouser of Blair is her brother.
Bonnie R. Updike was born April 12, 1931 in rural Decatur, Nebr. She grew up on a farm near Tekamah and was a 1949 graduate of Tekamah High School. On Jan. 14, 1950 she married
Clifford D. Updike at Winslow, Nebr. She worked at Dunrite, Inc. in Fremont for over 30 years.
Survivors are her husband, Clifford; a son, Brad Updike of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Lavonne ( Mrs. James) Furstenau of Fremont and Anne ( Mrs. Randy) Cole of Tilden, Nebr.; a brother, Harry Fankhouser of Blair; a sister, Iola ( Mrs. Jack) Revis of Poudre Canyon, Colo., and three grandchildren, Jennifer Furstenau of Fremont, Jeff Cole and Katherine Cole, both of Tilden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Nellie ( Jensen) Fankhouser; an infant daughter and a brother, Robert Fankhouser.
Pallbearers are Harold Updike, Matt Updike, Duane Updike, C. H. Grubb, Roger Barber and Owen Charter.
Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Walter "Andy;" Andrews, 86

Walter Harris "Andy;" Andrews, 86, of Blair, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Walter Harris "Andy" Andrews was born March 26, 1911 in Sturgis, Meade County, S. D. to Conger Vincent and Maude Ellen ( Loop ) Andrews. He attended the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, S. D.
On June 14, 1936, he married
Helene Katherine ( the daughter of Dr. Homer D. and Lola Cecile ( Beard ) Lurvey ) Lurvey in Rapid City. They lived in Hay Springs and Chadron, Nebr., briefly in Key West, Fla. during World War II and then moved to Omaha where he worked in the Martin Bomber Plant and for Interstate Machinery and Supply. He came to Blair in 1947 to be the assistant utilities superintendent and then served as Blair's utilities superintendent, in charge of electricity, water and sewer utilities until 1977.
He was a long - time member of the Blair Volunteer Fire Department, served as chief from 1949 to 1959 and was one of the organizers of the Blair Rescue Squad and an active volunteer until his retirement. He was a former member of the Lions Club, the Blair Chamber of Commerce and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors are his wife, Helene; two daughters and sons - in - law, Mary Jo and Richard Kubie of Blair and Ellen Jean and Robert Fisher of Fox Lake, Wis.; six grandchildren, Scott and Quan Kubie of Omaha; Kristine Jo Kubie of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Brent and Cheryl Fisher of Stevens Point, Wis..; Brian Fisher of Eagan, Minn.; Tara Fisher of Fox Lake, Wis.. and Kathy Fisher of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Edna Gregory in Sturgis and a brother, Fay C. "Bob;" Andrews of near Key West, Fla.
Memorials may be directed to the Blair Rescue Squad or the Blair Volunteer Fire Department.

Marvin J. Dierks, 72

Marvin John Dierks, 72 of Valley and formerly of Fremont, died Monday, April 28, 1997 at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley.
Services were April 30 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. Rev. John Pierson officiated. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery at Washington, Nebr.
Marvin J. Dierks was born Oct. 24, 1924 in Omaha to John and Sophie ( Junge ) Dierks. He was baptized Oct. 25, 1925 and confirmed Feb. 26, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. He attended District No. 34 School and Bennington High School for one year.
On Sept. 2, 1944 he married
LaFern Nelson at St. John's Lutheran Church. He farmed all of his life north of Bennington and had grade A dairy cows. After retiring in 1980, they moved to Fremont. He entered the Fremont Area Medical Center March 9 and was transferred to Valhaven March 29.
Survivors are his wife, LaFern of Fremont; sons and daughter - in - law, Doug and Kay of Kennard and Tom of Council Bluffs; 10 grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Norman Petersen of Omaha and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard; one brother, Arnold and one sister, Marian.
Pallbearers were Adam Dierks, Jim Dierks, Jon Dierks, Matt Dierks, Tyler Schmidt, Arnie Wehmeyer and Andy White.

Harold Wallace Lantefield, 82 died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, 11 days after undergoing emergency open - heart surgery.
Services were May 2 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Rev. Michael H. Dismer officiated. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.
Harold Wallace Lantefield was born to Rudolph and Alma ( Anderson ) Lantefield Oct. 8, 1914 at his parents' home four miles northwest of Craig, Nebr. He graduated from Craig High School in 1932.
On Jan. 15, 1938, he married
Leota Eckley in Tekamah. After several years of farming in Burt County, they moved to Tekamah. He spent the majority of his remaining working years as an over - the - road driver for Kelly Ryan Equipment Company in Blair.
Survivors are his wife, Leota of Tekamah; a daughter and son - in - law, Shirley and LaVerl Merz of Lincoln, Nebr.; two granddaughters, and their spouses, Debra and Ray Stall and Cynthia and David Doran, all of Eagle, Nebr.; four great - grandchildren, Tony Stall, Matthew Stall, Ashley Doran and James Doran, also of Eagle; and two sisters, Ferne Wachter of Sausalito, Calif. and Phyllis Green of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kenneth Merz and two brothers - in - law, William Wachter and Thomas Forrest Green.
Casket bearers were Tim Doran, Ken Musil, Scott Olson, Randy Olson, Randy Artman and Norman Shamburg.
Billy Pearson was the organist. John Peck was the vocalist.

Clifford Alvin Andersen, 78

Clifford Alvin Andersen, 78 of California died April 7, 1997.
He is the nephew of Goldie Follen, Pearl Stricklett and Helen Skov, all of Blair.
Andersen was born on a farm outside Kennard, Nebr. Dec. 12, 1919 to Carl and Elizabeth Andersen. He was baptized in 1921 and confirmed in 1933. In 1937, his family moved to California and he followed after high school. He settled in the Los Angeles area and became a member of Olivet Lutheran Church. In 1944, he served his country during World War II in the Signal Corps, stationed in Manila.
On April 13, 1941 ( Easter Sunday ) he married
Gladys Jensen. After the war, they moved to North Hollywood, Calif. While there they helped establish Valley Lutheran Church. In 1962, they moved to Granada Hills. They helped establish Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
He was a Boy Scout leader. He was a manufacturing engineer and retired in 1983. He was actively involved with the LAPD at the Granada Hills Community Service Center and the Volunteer Surveillance Team and helped at his church and other organizations, including Lutheran Social Services.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys and children, Dennis, Dwayla and Douglas, six grandchildren, Neil, Todd, Karis, Siri, Brandt and Emma; sisters, Clairbell Petersen, Lake Tahoo, Calif.; Vivian Agren, Graham, Wash.; aunts, Goldie Follen, Pearl Stricklett and Helen Skov, all of Blair; nieces and nephews in California; and many other relatives in the Blair, Arlington and Kennard communities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alfred, who died in June, 1996.
