Betty Schmit, 77

Betty Schmit, 77, of Blair died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalene cemetery in Omaha.
Betty Schmit was born June 6, 1920 in Omaha to Nicholas and Eva ( Hurth ) Scholtes. She graduated from St. Johns High School in 1938.
On June 23, 1945, she married
Al Schmit of Nenzel, Neb. in Omaha. They farmed west of Fort Calhoun until moving to Blair in 1992. She was a supervisor in the mail department at Boys Town.
She was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and the Over 55 Club.
Survivors are her husband, Al; daughters and sons - in - law, Janet and Ron Bergmann, Gretna, Neb.; Judy and Ervin Poore, Woodbine, Iowa; Jeanne and Gary Hall, Blair; Joanne and Daniel Murphy, Fort Calhoun and Joyce and Mike Smith of Fort Calhoun; sons and daughters - in - law, Jim and Becky Schmit, Kennard and John and Judy Schmit, Fort Calhoun; 26 grandchildren and two brothers, Wilfred Scholtes, Overland Park, Kans.; and Francis Scholtes, Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Joseph, Jerald and Jerome and a brother, Paul Arthur.
Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Boys Town.

Fred Schumacher, 84

Fred W. Schumacher, 84 died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at his rural Kennard home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Burial will be in the German Cemetery.
Fred W. Schumacher was born Feb. 14, 1913 in Omaha to Chris and Louise ( Stender ) Schumacher. He attended the LaCrone School.
On Feb. 2, 1939, he married
Alvina Wesemann in Omaha. He farmed in rural Kennard his entire life.
He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Papio Dam Preservation Association.
Survivors are his wife, Alvina; two sons and daughters - in - law, Fred A. and Sherrill Schumacher and Don and Joyce Schumacher and one daughter, Donna Blankenship, all of Kennard; 10 grandchildren and nine great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry and a sister, Doretta.
Memorials may be given to the Kennard Rescue Squad or Emmaus Lutheran Church.

Otto Stave, 86

Otto Henry Stave, 86, Blair, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Saturday at First Lutheran church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Otto Stave was born Aug. 28, 1910 in Talmage, Neb. to Henry and Anna ( Rahe ) Stave, the son of a minister. He was baptized in Sept., 1910 and was confirmed in 1923 in the Lutheran faith. He attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He worked for the Hoover Vacuum Company in Omaha. During World War II, he worked at the Martin Bomber Plant in Baltimore. After the war, he was assistant manager for the Lutheran Publishing House of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Blair and was manager for the company later. He worked there until the American Lutheran Church merger in 1963. He then managed the Augsburg Publishing House in Omaha until retiring in 1977.
On Aug. 12, 1951 he married
Lydia S. Nielsen - Hofstrom at First Lutheran Church.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and had served as a member of the Congregational Council. He also served on the board of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home and was instrumental in planning their expansion and the building of Johansen Manor. He was a member of the Blair Rotary Club and the Blair Golf Club.
Survivors are his son and daughter - in - law, Dennis and Mary Stave of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter and son - in - law, Rhonda and James Smoot of Salem, Ore.; four grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; a brother, Hubert Stave of Walker, Minn. and a sister, Rosiland Brooks of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Seegers and his wife, Lydia, who died in 1993.
Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home's Chapel Fund.

Nial Charles Viles, 85, died at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk Sunday, June 15, 1997.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Military graveside services will be held in the Blair Cemetery.
Nial Charles Viles was born July 21, 1911 at Lyons, Neb. to George Walter and Bertha Emilla ( Anderson ) Viles. He attended school in Lyons. He lived in Lyons from 1911 - 1951; in Arlington from 1951 - 52; Blair from 1952 - 1988 and in Norfolk since that time. He served in the Army from 1942 - 45, during World War II.
On Dec. 29, 1945, he married
Berneta Loudon at Papillion, Neb. He farmed and worked for Kelly Ryan Equipment Co. until he retired.
Survivors are four daughters, Susan ( Mrs. Ron ) Jensen, Omaha; Kathleen ( Mrs. Clyde ) Noyes, Craig, Neb.; Mrs. Anita Donahue, Springfield, Ohio; Mary Kay ( Mrs. Carl ) Williams, Omaha; five grandchildren, Clyde Noyes, James Noyes, Robert Noyes, Mikie Donahue and James Kalanowski; three great - grandchildren, Vivianna Jensen, Caleb Noyes and Evan Dane; three sisters, Jennie Carpender, Omaha; Belle Batey, Manhattan, Kan.; May Madsen, Blair; and two brothers, Walter Viles, Lyons and William Viles, Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Berneta in July, 1989. Campbell - Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mazie Zella Jensen, 92, died Friday, June, 6, 1997, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, after residing there for the last two weeks.
Services were Monday at the Campbell-Aman Funeral Chapel in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Mazie Zella Jensen was born Feb. 22, 1905 in Decatur, Neb. to Allen G. and Abigail Jane (DeVinney) Brinley. She graduated from Tekamah High School. On Dec. 29, 1940, she married
Kenneth L. Jensen. They owned and operated the Blair Clothing Store for many years.
Survivors are three grandsons, Joe Peare and his wife, Julie of Blair; Ken Peare of Michigan and Arnold Leighton of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Betty and four brothers and sisters.
Henry Wesemann, 77

Henry A. Wesemann, 77 of Kennard died Friday, June 6, 1997 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. Military services will be held in the Kennard cemetery in Kennard.
Henry A. Wesemann was born June 27, 1919 in rural Kennard to Henry and Anna (Mueller) Wesemann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. He attended Peaceful Hill School. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. On Aug. 27, 1954, he married
Ellen Cramer in Lincoln, Neb. They farmed one mile southwest of Kennard.
He was a member of the Kennard American Legion, Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Blair Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors are his wife, Ellen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon Appleby of Omaha and Gail and David Mooter of Omaha; three grandchildren; Paul Mooter, Christopher Mooter and Mary Ellen Mooter; three brothers, Louis of Tekamah; William of Silverton, Ore.; and Elmer of Blair; and five sisters, Ella Rohwer of Omaha; Rose Sass of Blair; Wanda Grebe of Bennington; Anita Lauritsen of Blair and Alvina Schumacher of Kennard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cecelia Gaston; and brothers, John, Albert, Herman and Melvin.
