Marjorie M. Reno, 79 of Omaha died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Wednesday at Roeder Mortuary in Omaha. Burial was in Forest Lawn cemetery in Omaha.
Marjorie M. Reno was born Jan. 14, 1918 to Roscoe and Mabel Stewart on a farm northwest of Blair. She lived in Washington County many years and attended Wranch School. She worked at Scott's Footwear in Omaha for many years before retiring.
Survivors are her daughter, Judy Lancaster; a son, David Reno of Omaha; two grandsons; three granddaughters; five great - grandsons; three sisters and brothers - in - law, Dorothy Gallagher, Lorraine and Harold Hartman and Lois and Dale Diefenbaugh; a sister - in - law, Mary J. Stewart, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John and a brother, Roland.
Ruth Whitney, 86

Ruth Mary Whitney, 86 died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997 at the Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Mo.
Services will be Sept. 4 at the Walker - Nadler Funeral Home in Lexington.
Ruth Whitney was born April 10, 1911, at Montpelier, Idaho to Arthur James and Lulu Hummel Jobson. She was a graduate of Northeast State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo., and was a teacher for many years. On June 20, 1936, she married
Glen Whitney at her parents' home in Marceline, Mo.
She was a 53 - year member of the Lexington United Methodist Church and Esther Circle. She was also a member of the Lafayette County Historical Society, the Lexington Garden Club, the Retired Teachers of Missouri, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter HX of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Survivors are her husband, Glen; her daughter and son - in - law, Jane and Hugh Hunt of Blair; her son and daughter - in - law, Arthur and Martha Whitney of Palo Alto, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one great - grandchild; her sister and brother - in - law, Grayce and Bob Pudden of Manhattan, Kan.
Kenneth Goldberg, 68

Kenneth C. Goldberg, 68 of Arlington died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Charles W. Bichel of Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle is officiating. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery with military graveside services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71 of Arlington.
Kenneth C. Goldberg was born June 15, 1929 in Rural Arlington to Clarence and Carrie ( Kruse ) Goldberg. He grew up northeast of Arlington. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955 and was a staff sergeant. After his discharge he moved to Fremont and started his drywall business, Ken Goldberg Drywall Co. He moved to Arlington in 1964.
On Jan. 14, 1949 at Plattsmouth, Neb. he married
Barbara Laaker.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 71 and was vice - commander at the time of his death. He was a retired member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four daughters and sons - in - law, Sherry and Wayne Sasges of Grand Island, Neb.; Linda Sheets of Prattville, Ala.; Debra and Daniel Davis of York, Neb. and Brenda and James Bussen of Arlington; a brother and sister - in - law, Robert and Helen Goldberg of Bennington; a sister, Vera Andrews of Fremont; 10 grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Pallbearers are Cliff Wulf, Glen Keeler, Dave Jenkins, Paul Sorensen, Glenn Roumph and Gene Rawlings.

Minnie Surber, 82

Minnie E. Surber, 82 of Council Bluffs, Iowa died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997 at Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Services are Wednesday at Meyer - Woodring Chapel in Council Bluffs with Rev. Dee Jay Reiff officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Omaha.
Minnie E. Surber was born in Danbury, Iowa Sept. 24, 1914. She had lived in Council Bluffs since 1960. She was a manager for Goodrich Dairy Stores for many years. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 441 in Council Bluffs, Arbor Vitae No. 92 in Fremont and the White Shrine. She was also a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.
She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Grosvenor of Council Bluffs; Janis Tibke of Arlington and Wanda ( Mrs. Edward ) Tibke of Omaha; two sons, Jon Surber and James Surber, both of Council Bluffs; one brother, Raymond Scott of Danbury; 21 grandchildren and 30 great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1995.

Francis Hovendick, 88
Francis Joseph Hovendick, 88, of Blair died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Omaha.
Francis Joseph Hovendick was born May 9, 1909 in rural Blair to Frank and Elfrieda Trantow Hovendick. He was baptized July 11, 1909 and was confirmed in December of 1952 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, Neb. He attended the Maney School. On Feb. 22, 1936, he married
Frieda Rix. They lived in the DeSoto Hills area. In 1938, they moved to his family's home place south of Blair in Richland Township. He farmed all his life until 1970, when he sold the farm for which he had received the Pioneer Farm Award in 1968. After moving to Blair, he worded as a custodian for the Blair School system until retiring. He then worked as custodian for First Lutheran Church for 14 years.
His wife, Frieda, died in January of 1965.
On April 24, 1966, he married
Velda V. Kinyon. She survives.
Other survivors are two children and their spouses, Lois and Marvin Cudley, Blair and Duane and Penny Hovendick, Omaha; four grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kent.
Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Alice Pfeiffer, 93
Alice Pfeiffer, 93, of Fremont died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997 at the Fremont Care Center.
Services were Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Rev. Charles W. Bichel officiated. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
Aice Pfeiffer was born June 9, 1904 in Wayne, Neb. to Preston and Laura Crockett, the youngest of seven children. She grew up in Wayne, where she graduated from high school and Wayne State College. She received her masters degree from the University of Nebraska, in Lincoln. She taught school for many years and was the last superintendent of the Nickerson High School in Nickerson, Neb. On June 6, 1943, she married
Chester Pfeiffer in the Salem Lutheran Church. They farmed near Nickerson until 1967 when the moved into Fremont.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she had been active as the choir director, Sunday School teacher and was active in the women's organizations. She had also been active in the Rosedale Women's Club, the Retired Teacher's Associations and was a member for over 50 years of Arbor Vitae Chapter No. 92 Order of Eastern Star, of which she was Worthy Matron in 1969.
Survivors are a son, Wayne Pfeiffer of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; two granddaughters; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in October, 1982 and her six brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church or Arbor Vitae Chapter No. 92.
