Leora Christensen, 72
Leora B. Christensen, 72, of Herman, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Monday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.
Leora B. Christensen was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Burt County, Neb., to Charles and Ollie ( Richards ) Epperson. She attended school in rural Burt County. On April 17, 1949, she married
Clarence Christensen at Herman. They lived on a farm southwest of Herman for 35 years, moving into Herman in 1984.
She was a member of the Herman Federate Church.
Survivors are her husband, Clarence; a son and daughter - in - law, Nels and Susan Christensen, Blair; two granddaughters, Stacy an Candid; one great - grandson, Deven; a brother, Dale Epperson, Blair; two sisters, Eloise Cameron, Mojave Valley, Ariz.; and Joyce Korth, Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a sister - in - law, Rachel Epperson of Blair.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Mark; sisters, Norma Anderson and Frances Forst and a brother, Arlo.
John McCarthy, 79
John O. McCarthy, M.D., of rural Omaha, died at his home Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997.
Services were Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
Dr. McCarthy was born March 27, 1918 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1937. He received his pre - medical schooling from Creighton University between 1942 and 1946 and graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force. He had a private medical practice and was on staff at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital; the University of Nebraska Hospital; Bergan Mercy Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. He was an obstetrics and gynecology instructor at Creighton University School of Medicine and was assistant clinical profession in OB/Gyn at the University of Nebraska Medical School.
He was a member of the Nebraska State Medical Society, Omaha Douglas County Medical Society and the Omaha Midwest Clinical Society.
Survivors are his wife, Kathy McCarthy; children and their spouses, Patrick McCarthy and fiancˇ Marilyn Anderson; Edward McCarthy; all of Omaha; John Francis and Greta McCarthy, and Timothy McCarthy, all of Red Oak, Iowa; Kathleen and Chris Johnson, Stanton, Iowa; John Michael and Lyn McCarthy, Amy Barta - Becker and Thomas Becker; Guy Barta; Stephen Patrick McCarthy and Michael Kelly McCarthy, all of Omaha; grandchildren, Michael McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy, Kaitlin Buscher, Zachary McCarthy, Joseph McCarthy, Kaleb McCarthy and Mary Elizabeth Becker; a brother and sister - in - law, Michael and Sandra McCarthy, Omaha; sisters and brothers - in - law, Patricia and Angela Leoni, Petuluma, Calif.; Connie and Joe Christilles, Manchester, N.H.; Becky and Ray Barta, Jr., and Becky and Ray Barta, Jr., all of Omaha; a sister - in - law, Joan McCarthy, Omaha; brothers - in - law, Clay Griffin, Texas; John Bin, Petaluma, Calif. and Gerald Jancik, Omaha; his mother and father - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jancik, Omaha; a cousin, Betty Garrison, Edgewater, Md. and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund or the Fort Calhoun High School Athletic Association.

Harold "Chic;" Madsen, 79
Harold J. "Chic;" Madsen, 79, of Blair, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery with military graveside services.
Harold J. Madsen, Jr., was born July 15, 1918 at Dale, Neb., to Harold J. and Selma ( Hansen ) Madsen, Sr. He graduated from Blair High School and attended Dana College prior to serving in the Army during World War II. On June 19, 1948, he married
May Viles. He worked for the Nebraska Government for 25 years, was with the U. S. Postal Service for 20 years, serving as postmaster for a number of years, and was a bridge and culvert inspector for Washington County for a number of years.
He was a member, and past commander, of the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1251; a member of the Blair American Legion, 40 et 8 and First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, May; a daughter and son - in - law, JoLynn and Frank Wolff; sons and daughter - in - law, Ron and Linda Madsen; and Harold J. Madsen, III, all of Blair; nine grandchildren; one great - grandchild; six brothers, Charles and Burl, both of Atlanta, Geo.; Donald, of Stillwater, Minn.; Murl, Mesa, Ariz.; and Jack and Robert of Blair; and two sisters, Harriett Pitt, Denver, Colo. and Lois Donaldson, Boulder City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty.

Jonni Minor, 30
Jonni R. Minor, 30, of Blair died Saturday, Nov. 22, following an auto accident on Interstate 29, south of Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date in the Blair Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Jonni R. Minor was born Aug. 22, 1967 in Plymouth, N.H. to John O. and Betty ( Knudsen ) Minor. She was a 1985 graduate of Blair High School. She also had a degree as a certified nursing assistant. At the time of her death, she was employed with Fru - Con Construction Company, as a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors are her son, J. J. Johnson of Blair; her mother, Betty Minor of Blair; her father, John O. Minor of Liberty, Tex.; sisters and brothers - in - law, Valerie and Ken Gilmore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Tracy and Erik Higgs of Wichita, Kan.; Susan Eix of Fremont; her grandmother, Ethel Knudsen of Herman; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the J. J. Johnson Fund, which has been set up to benefit her son, J. J., at the Washington County Bank.
Nellie Pearce, 87
Nellie Mae Pearce, 87, of Omaha, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at the Florence Home in Omaha.
Services were Monday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.
Nellie Mae Pearce was born Nov. 24, 1909, at Herman to Charles and Malinda ( Johnson ) Sheets. She graduated from Herman High School and attended Wayne State Teachers College. She received her masters degree in education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught in rural school at Valentine, Neb.; and was a teacher and principal for the Omaha Public Schools, serving as principal at Field Club and Central Grade School.
On July 7, 1936, she married
Virgil William Pearce.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Pilot Club; and the Nebraska American Association of Retired Persons. She served as editor of the Nebraska AARP newsletter.
Survivors are her daughter and son - in - law, Nola and Robert Baker, Omaha; a grandson, Gregory R. Kuchera, Omaha; a sister, Mildred O'Hara, North Bend, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in December, 1987 and her parents.
Pamela Stevens, 48
Pamela B. Stevens, 48, of Blair died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Monday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery at Blair.
Mrs. Stevens was born May 13, 1949 to Harold and Dolores ( Williby ) Smith. She attended Blair schools, graduating from Blair High School in 1967.
On July 8, 1967, she married
LeRoy Stevens in Blair. She had worked at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair since 1987 and was also a day care provided.
She was a member of the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was chairperson of the carry - out department for the May dinner at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and had worked for many years at the annual Memorial Community Hospital Rummage Sale.
Survivors are her husband, LeRoy; daughters and son - in - law, Christine and Angela Stevens and Holly and James Rogge, all of Blair; a granddaughter, Alicia Stevens; her father, Harold J. Smith, Blair; brothers and sisters - in - law, Bill and Judy Smith, Paul and Chris Smith, all of Blair; John Smith of Omaha; sisters and brother - in - law, Cindy Nelson, Blair and Joan and Gary Niver, Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores.

James Glass, II, 70
James Glass, II, 70, of Rancho Cordova, Calif. died Saturday, Nov. 15. 1998 at the hospital there of a cancer which he had battled for three months.
James Glass, II, was a former Blairite. He graduated from Blair High School and Dana College. He had been married
to the former Wanda Gilliam for 50 years.
