Charles "Wayne;" Miller, 93, of Herman died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Herman. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Hamel - Peck Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah and Friday one hour before the services at the church.
Martha Nielsen, 91
Martha Nielsen, 91 of Scribner and formerly of Blair died Wednesday, November, 5, 1997.
Services will be 10:30 Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Teresa Byers, 45
Teresa Rae Byers, 45, of Kennard died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997 at Memorial Community Hospital.
Serviceswere Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Rev. Michael McGregor officiated. Burial was in the Kennard Cemetery.
Teresa Rae Byers was born Sep. 19, 1952 in London, England, to William and Alice ( Misfeldt ) Byers. She attended Kennard and Arlington High Schools; Nebraska Wesleyan University; the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Colorado. She had a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. She moved to Kennard from Colorado Springs, Colo. in March due to her illness.
Survivors are her mother, Alice of Kennard; a brother and sister - in - law, Michael and Patricia Byers, Nickerson; a sister and brother - in - law, Suzanne and Gary Novak, Blair; five nieces, Heather, Angela, Amber, Crystal and Megan and a special friend, Steve Stockdale. Memorials may be given to the Kennard United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Duane Clough, 64
Duane J. Clough, 64, of Winslow died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Services were Saturday at First Congregational Church ( U.C.C. ) In Uehling. Rev. Wallace Barth officiated. Burial of ashes was in the Hooper Cemetery.
Duane J.. Clough was born July 21, 1933 to James . and Gladys Sohl Clough in rural Hooper, Nebr. He graduated from the Uehling High School in 1950 and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont; Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kans. and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. He served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1956 and was stationed in Germany as a nurse. He lived in Hooper, Winslow, Uehling and Fremont most of his life.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, was a past member of the First Congregational Church in Fremont and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 200 of Fremont. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 854 in Fremont, the Military Order of the Cootie and the Winslow Fire Department.
Survivors are his mother, Gladys Clough of Uehling; three sons and daughters - in - law, Douglas and Lori of Omaha; Patrick and Kae of Hooper; James J. and Tania of Anselmo, Neb.; a daughter and son - in - law, Rochelle and Tim Meyer of Fremont; a sister, Juanita Wilson of Omaha; seven grandchildren; a special friend, Robin Cameron of Hooper and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Honorary casket bearers were Bruce Brandenburg, Kenneth Sohl, Robert Vondrasek, Pat Mallette Sr., Roger Clough, Pat Mallette Jr. and Maisie Watkins.
The organist was Leta Olson.
Memorials may be given to the Uehling Auditorium Renovation Fund.

Chester Hovendick, 89
Chester Leroy Hovendick, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at the Tekamah Nursing Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Herman Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery.
Masonic and prayer services will be 6 p.m. Friday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home.
Chester Leroy Hovendick was born April 10, 1908, to Charles and Leora ( Fletcher ) Hovendick at their farm home in the New England community west of Herman. The family moved to a farm a few miles north in Burt County where he would later farm. He received his elementary schooling at the Crawford School. On Jan. 2, 1929, he married
Dorothy Montgomery at Red Oak, Iowa. He retired from farming in December 1969 and moved to Blair, where he resided until January 1997, when he moved to the Tekamah Nursing Center because of failing health.
He was a member of the Herman Baptist Church, of the Herman Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, a past board member of the District No. 42 School Board and a past board member of the Herman Federated Church in Herman.
Survivors are two daughters and sons - in - law, Jean and Dwain Jordan, Herman; and Ione and Omar Kauffeld, Garfield, Ark.; three grandchildren, Renee Reed - Curl, Greg Jordan and Kent Jordan; six great - grandchildren, Randy Mastin, Amy Mastin, Brad Jordan, Amanda Jordan, Kyle Jordan and Elizabeth Jordan; two step - grandchildren, Karen Kauffeld and Keith Kauffeld; two brothers, Vernon Hovendick and Howard Hovendick and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy in October 1986; and one brother, Lester Hovendick.
Matilda "Skip;" Foral, 83
Matilda "Skip;" Foral, 83, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Burial will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Matilda "Skip;".; Foral was born March 3, 1914, in Omaha to Frank and Matilda ( Michalek ) Mestecky. She grew up in Omaha and Douglas County and attended North High School. She worked many years at the Sievers Store in Fort Calhoun.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, had been a cast member in Father Schwertley's productions and was a naturalist.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; daughters and sons - in - law, Jean ( Van Winkle ) and Gordon Mallory, all of Fort Calhoun; Phyllis ( Van Winkle ) and Dale Spangenthal of Clearfield, Utah; step - daughters and sons - in - law, Lorraine ( Foral ) and Robert Lammers of Wyomissing, Penn.; Peggy ( Foral ) and Mike Elvers, Omaha; Anita ( Foral ) and Lawrence Kusek of Fort Calhoun; a step - son and daughter - in - law, Joseph and Kim Foral of Blair; a sister, Anne Beck of Omaha; 19 grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Van Winkle; her parents; brothers, Frank Mestecky and Joseph Mestecky and sisters, Marie Kruml and Phyllis Gunn.
Memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society or the Fort Calhoun Rescue Squad.

Marie Ann Japp, 91, of Kennard died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Burial will be in the Kennard Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home.
Marie Ann Japp was born June 12, 1906, in rural Kennard to Hans and Bertha ( Kuhr ) Wrich. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmaus Lutheran Church. She attended school at Donnacher and Peaceful Hill schools. She lived on the family farm her entire life with the exception of 14 years. On April 4, 1923, she married
Walter H. Japp, Sr.
She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Emmaus Lutheran Church Women's Circle.
Survivors are a daughters and son - in - law, Mildred and Donald Krampe, Marion, Ind.; and Mary Lou Anderson, Omaha; sons and daughters - in - law, Lyle and Phyllis Japp, Omaha; Walter, Jr. and JoAnn Japp, Kennard; a sister - in - law, Dora Wrich; 14 grandchildren; 26 great - grandchildren and one great - great - granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter in January 1989; a grandson and five brothers.
Memorials may be given to Emmaus Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
