U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Alvis L. Eddins, November 16, 2008, age 56

Alvis L. Eddins died Nov. 16, 2008, in Fremont. He was born April 2, 1952, in North Platte to William and Helen (Lankford) Eddins. He was a graduate of North Platte High School. He moved to North Bend in 1973 and was employed at Hillside Dehy Inc. in Uehling.
Alvis married Sandy Fischer on Dec., 15, 1973, at North Bend. She survives along with sons Scott (Mandi) Eddins, Jim (Melissa) Eddins, all of Fremont; brothers Tom (Joan) Eddins of North Platte, Pete (Marcia) Eddins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; parents-in-law Francis and Mary Fischer of Morse Bluff; four grandchildren.
The funeral was Nov. 19 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Captains Tim and Jen Gardner of the Salvation Army officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation.

Robert Sours, November 13, 2008, age 83

Robert Dean Sours of Salem, Oregon, died Nov. 13. He was born April 25, 1925, to Floyd and Nettie Sours of North Bend. Robert served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to North Bend until moving to Oregon in 1956. He became a Pentacostal minister in 1958.
He maried Verna Sjostrom of North Dakota in June 1950.
Survivors include son Bob (Karen) Sours, Blaine (Barb) Sours, Terry Sours; daughter Robbie (Gregg) Lawrence; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral and burial were in Salem Nov. 18.

Michael J. Wachsmuth, Jr., November 12, 2008, age 23

Micheal J. Wachsmuth, Jr., of Garrison, Minn., died Nov. 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Michael was born July 16, 1985, in California. He was a 2004 graduate of Brainerd (Minn) High School. He was a Garrison Vlunteer firefighter and a launch pilot for Garrison Sports and the Blue Goose. He volunteered as an elementary school wrestling coach and referee.
Survivors include his wife, Kayla Weber of Garrison; mother Laurea Steinbach of Wahkon, Minn; father Michael Wachsmuth of Aitkin, Minn.; brother Andrew Wachsmuth of Wahkon; sisters Krista Wachsmuth of LaVista, Nebr., April Wachsmuth of Wahkon; grandparents Shirly Sloan of Coon Rapids, Minn,, Marvin and Yvonne Steinbach of Morse Bluff; nephew Alexander Smith of La Vista.
A fightfighter’s funeral was held Nov. 15 in Garriaon. Graveside service were Nov. 18 at Cedar Hill cemetery with the Rev. Don Cleary of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend officiating.
Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend was in charge of the local arrangements.

Marge Glodowski

Margaret (Marge) Ann Glodowski came to her eternal rest Monday, Jan. 27 at the Scribner Good Samaritan Care Center in Scribner. Marge had resided in the Alzheimers wing for the past two and a half years.
She was born on the family farm one mile south of Howells on May 2, 1928. She was the first of seven children born to Conrad and Anna (Ridder) Elbracht. Marge attended and was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School. She was baptized, confirmed and made her first Holy Communion there. She graduated from Howells High School in 1946. She taught school for several years in three rural Colfax county K-8 one room schools through the normal training program.
On April 14, 1953, she was joined in marriage to Ralph F. Glodowski from North Bend at St. Peter and Paul in Howells. They celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together Marge and Ralph lived on the family dairy farm, centrally located between Scribner and North Bend. Marge and Ralph were members of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. Margaret was a life-long member of St. Catherine’s guild. She served as a CCD religion teacher for over 30 years. She was a Dodge Co. Darts and Lucky Lassie’s 4-H club leader for 41 years. She was also a member of the Maple Creek County Extension club.
To the union of Marge and Ralph six children were born. Kathy, Marian, Joyce, Jim, Jan, and Jerry. Marge was an avid gardener and loved to can and bake. She took great pride in winning several awards for her canning and baking at the Dodge Co. Fair. Marge enjoyed attending the State Fair, watching and listening to Husker games, the World Series, and televised high school state tournaments. Her joy in life came from the short trips she took with Ralph, her children’ grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a morning person and truly loved her country life. She was a great cook and always had a hot meal ready for anyone. She looked forward to family and friend reunions, picnics, and hot dog roasts. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always treasure the stories she told. Her kind, gentle, fun personality will be missed by many.
Marge is survived by her children, Kathy Glodowski, Madison, Marian (Ed) Frisch, of Madison, Joyce Glodowski, North Bend, Jim (Pam) Glodowski of Farnam, Jan (Carl) Aschoff of West Point, and Jerry Glodowski of North Bend; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with one on the way: Sally (Jason) Dahlberg, children Natasha, Alicia, and CeJay of Madison; Brian (Virginia) Frisch, Devon, Alex, and Chase of Norfolk; Jody (Frisch) Gullicksen,, Dustin Maggio, Shannon Maggio, Desiree Gullicksen, Derrek and Davian Gullicksen of Madison; Amy (Mark) Givens, Collin and Saddie of Lincoln; Vicky Frisch of Norfolk; Kelsey Jessica) Glodowski of Farnam; Logan Glodowski of Kearney; Lucas Glodowski of Farnam; Carmen (Cody Bryant) Glodowski, Camero of North Platte; Vincent Glodowski of North Platte..Sisters, Agnes Stigge and Kay Lavigne, both of Gretna; sisters-in-law Betty Elbracht of Howells, and Betty Glodowski of Hooper; brother-in-law Bob Maxwell, of Lincoln. Also several cousins, friends, and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, sister Pat Maxwell, brother-in-law Gus Stigge, sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Norbert Tacner, brother Joe Elbracht, brother-in-law, Richard Glodowski, and infant sister Mary.
The Funeral Mass was Feb. 1 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. Burial was at St. Mary’s Ridgeley Cemetery. Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements

Jerry Kocour

Jerald M. “Jerry” Kocour of Fremont died Jan. 24 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Jerry was born Sept. 3, 1943, in North Bend to Albert and Gladys (Jorgensen) Kocour. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
After his discharge, he moved to Fremont. Jerry married Sheryl Liester on Nov. 9, 1984, in Fremont. Sheryl died Sept. 1, 1999.
Jerry and his partner, Jim Mohr, were co-owners and operators of J & J Floor Care. Jerry was also a printer and worked at Emanuel Printing in Fremont for 35 years.
Jerry is survived by son, Zachary Douglas of Fremont; daughters, Danielle (John) Petersen and Tiffany (Rob Honkan) Mechamall of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; and companion Cindy White of Fremont.
Memorial services were Jan. 30 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Pastor Larry Jirsak officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Robert J. Wehner Jr.

Robert J. Wehner Jr. of Fremont died Jan. 23 at Nye Pointe. He was born March 6, 1928 to Robert and Marie (Raven) Wehner Sr.
Survivors include daughters Susan (Gary)Andrews, Nancy (Jim) Hoeft, Barbara (Kelly) Neilsen, Mary (Bill) Granger of North Bend and Casey Simpson: sons Tom (Laurie), Brad (Cyndi), Bruce (Rosemary), Bill (Denise) of North Bend, Jim, Mike (friend Karla), 44 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one blessing on the way.; sister Barbara Grow of Omaha; brother Tom (Darlene) Wehner of San Francisco Calif.. He was preceded in death by his wife Fae and parents.
The funeral was Jan. 27 at St. Patrick’s Church in Fremont with private family interment at Calvary Cemetery, Omaha.

Linda Hull

Linda Sue Hull of Fremont, formerly of Cedar Bluffs, died Jan. 16 at A.J. Merrick Manor. Linda was born Oct. 26, 1941 to Leland and Huley Mae (LaRue) Pairish in Texarkana, Ark. She grew up in Oakland, Calif., graduating from Oakland High School.
Linda married David R. Hull on Oct. 21, 1960, in Hayward, Calif. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. They moved to the Fremont area in 1961 and then moved to a farm near Cedar Bluffs in 1966. She returned to Fremont in 2006. Linda worked for Pfister Seed Company, North Bend Eagle, Birchwood Manor, Camp Calvin Crest, and Cedar Bluffs Public Schools as a para educator, retiring in 2005.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Bluffs. She was active in the Flower Mission, the Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon of her church.
She is survived by son David (Sheila) Hull of Morse Bluff; daughters Cindy (Tom) Kruse of Cedar Bluffs, Beth (David) Zimmerman of Wymore; brother John (Moe) Pairish of San Ramon, Calif.; sisters-in-law Merna Ruth Hansen of Herman, Gloria Maxwell of Onawa, Iowa; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service was Jan. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Bluffs with Pastor Brian Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials may be given to Presbyterian Women’s Organization, the Flower Mission and Cedar Bluffs Public Schools.

Jane Carmichael

Dorsel “Jane” Carmichael of North Bend died Jan. 14 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Jane was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Leigh to Emil and Josephine (Kumpf) Bakenhus. She lived in Leigh until moving to Fremont in 1940 and was a graduate of Fremont High School.
Jane moved to North Bend in 1951 and married William C. “Bill” Chapman on Sept. 15, 1951, in North Bend. He died January 14, 1963. She married Robert Carmichael on Nov. 29, 1967, in Schuyler.
Jane worked at several banks in Fremont, North Bend and Omaha and was a licensed real estate agent with N.P. Dodge. She was affilliated with Superior Hybrids Seed Company.
Jane was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, the church circle and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
She is survived by sons Tim (Revel) Chapman of Morse Bluff, Ron (Mary) Chapman of Orlando, Fla.; sister Helen LeGrande of Fremont; grandchild Ryan (Shannon) Chapman; two step-grandchildren, Adrian and Luis Guevara; one great grandchild, Gavin Chapman.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 18 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend the Rev. Don Cleary and the Rev. Robert Chapman officiating. Burial was at Woodland cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials may be given to St. Charles Catholic Church, the North Bend Library and the North Bend Senior Center.

Lynard Grant

Lynard J. Grant of Omaha, formerly of Morse Bluff, died Jan. 12 at his home in Omaha. Lynard was born in Omaha Dec. 4, 1955, to Lynard E. and Alice “Elaine” (Hugins) Grant. Lynard was baptized in a Lutheran church in Omaha. He grew up south of Valley and graduated from Waterloo High School.
Lynard married Debbie Wion and together they had a son, John Grant. They later divorced. Lynard moved to Morse Bluff where he worked for Bluffs Gravel as a dredge operator.
He is survived by his son John (Christy) Grant of Omaha; parents Lynard E. and Alice “Elaine” Grant of Blair; sisters Elizabeth Lynch of Blair, Vickie (John) Fisher of Mechanicsville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie K. Grant, and a brother, Jody A. Grant.
A celebration of life service was Jan. 17 at Moser Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Amy Krejcarek officiating. Burial will be at Bellevue City cemetery at a later date. Tokens of sympathy may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be established.

Donald Scheinost

A celebration of the life of Donald Scheinost will be held Jan. 19. Visitation will be held on from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with a prayer service following at the McKown Funeral Home, 2922 13th Street, Columbus. There is no viewing.
Donald F. Scheinost was born Sept. 20, 1926, to Tony and Albie (Dobry) Scheinost in Ideal, S.D. He passed away Jan. 10.
The family moved to North Bend in 1932 where Don grew up, graduating from North Bend High School in 1944. He then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Idaho during the Iwo Jima invasion.
Don was united in marriage to Betty Moore on Nov. 12, 1950, at the Nemaha Christian Church. He and Betty were married for 64 years until her passing in 2012. They moved to Columbus where Don worked as a manager at the Hinky Dinky Supermarket over 25 years before he retired. Don was a member of VFW 3704.
Don is survived by sisters, Eileen (Leonard) Dahlheim of Fremont, Norma Hamilton and Evelyn Winkelman of North Bend, and brother-in-law Dale (Ann) Moore of Denver, Colo.
