Kathleen Semrad
Kathleen Semrad of North Bend passed away Jan. 3 at Saunders Medical Care Center in Wahoo. She was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Dodge to Jerry and Bessie (Killeen) Powers. Kathleen grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1945. She worked at Hamilton’s Total Stop for many years.
Kathleen married
Leon Semrad Feb. 9, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Clyde. Leon passed away July 7, 2011.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society at North Bend and Morse Bluff American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 and North Bend VFW Auxiliary Post 8223.
Survivors include daughters Kathleen (LaVern) Krepel of North Bend, Jo Anne Krueger of Columbus, Patricia (Dale Jr.) Clark of Ankeny, Iowa, Cindy (John) Limbach, Teri (Steve) Hamilton all of North Bend, Deb (Dave) Stoupa of Lincoln; sister Betty (Tom) Carew of Omaha; 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Jan. 7 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Donald Cleary officiated. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the family for a fund yet to be established.
David Fiske
David Hubert Fiske of North Bend died Jan. 1 at his home. David was born June 6, 1945, to Ernest and Mildred (Zaun) Fiske in Valley City, North Dakota.
He grew up in Valley City and lived most of his adult life in Denver, Colorado, and the last 10 years in North Bend. He married
Linda Johnson on Sept. 7, 1966 at Bakersfield, Calif. They later divorced.
He was the owner/operator of an upholstery shop and retired in 2010.
David is survived by a daughter, Melissa Fiske of Maui, Hawaii; nephews, Jeff (Johanna) Modahl of Scribner, Mark Modahl of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother Dennis Fiske of Granada Hills, Calif.; niece, Connie King of Bakersfield; great-nephew, Jeffrey Modahl, Jr. of Scribner; and special friend, Caroline Hake of Denver.
There will be no services. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery at Valley City, N.D. Moser Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Martha J. (Gallatin) Romero, November 11, 2008, age 66
Martha J. Romero of North Bend died Nov. 11, 2008, at Birchwood Manor.
Martha was born June 19, 1942, in Trenton, Mo., to Vernon and Deloris (Ellis) Gallatin. She grew up in Fremont and was a graduate of Fremont High School. She lived around the country before moving to Columbus, then Fremont where she worked at Valmont Industires and Hormel. Martha moved to North Bend in 2006.

Robert F. Stoltenbert in Fremont. On Jan. 14, 1978. She married
Daniel Romero in Omaha.
Survivors include her husbndDaniel, son John (Laura) Stoltenbert of Greensburg, Kan.; daughter Kathy (Harry) Wenick of Wahougal, Wash.; step-sons Terry (Deborah) Romero of Yorba Linda, Calif., Larry (Sandy) Romero of North Carolina; step-daughters Joann (John) Wilson of Boron, Calif., Cheri (Doug) Farrington of Troutville, Ore.; brothers Mike (Sandy) Gallatin of North Bend, Kevin (Laura) Gallatin of Nixa, Mo.; sisters Vanessa (Bob) Kalio of Lincon, Marilyn (Stan) Freeman of Fremont, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
There will be no public service. Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, handled the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested for the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy (Legler) Morbach, November 6, 2008, age 83
Dorothy Morbach died Nov. 6, 2008, at David Place in David City. The funeral was Nov. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at Presentation cemetery in rural Bellwood.
Memorials are suggested for the Colfax County Senior Center.
Dorothy was born Nov.18, 1924, in Raymond to David and Ruby (Scott) Legler. She graduated from Schuyler High School and earned a Masters Degree in Teaching from Concordia College of Seward. She taught school for over forty years.
On Nov. 18, 1944, she married
Harry Lee Morbach in Marietta. They lived in Schuyler and in 1951 moved to the family farm near Bellwood. Dorothy returned to Schuyler following Harry’s death. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Schuyler, Catholic Daughters of America-David City Chapter and was a founding member of the ADK Teachers Sorority.
Survivors include two sons David (Carman Morbach) of Walla Walla, Wash. Joseph (Kathy) Morbach, Fort Worth, Texas; daughters Doll (Gerald) Hamata of Schuyler, Sheila (James) Lyons of Kernersville, N.C., Kimberly (Richard) Claiborne of Fremont; brother, Bill (Pat) Legler, Fremont; sisters Evelyn Vanicek, Marilyn (Vern) Eilers, all of Schuyler, Marjorie Mihulka of Columbus; nine grandchildre and five great-grandchildren. Benjamin Pokorny, November 5, 2008, age 82
Benjamin Pokorny of Fremont, formerly of rural Wahoo, died Nov. 5, 2008, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters Karen (Kirk) Kavan of North Bend, Laurie (Jim) Martens of Waterloo, Jeanette (Doug) Stuart of Omaha; son James Pokorny of Lincoln; seven grandchildren including Kaitlyn and Kyle Kavan of North Bend.
The funeral was Nov. 8 at the Czech Presbyterian Church in rural Wahoo. His grandson, Kyle Kavan, played “Taps” at the commital service.

William R. Emanuel, November 4, 2008, age 80
William R. “Bill” Emanuel, 80 years, of Fremont, died Nov. 4, 2008, at his home. He was born March 10, 1928, at Webster to Matthew and Ellen (Brennan) Emanuel. He grew up in Webster and Fremont, and was a 1945 graduate of Fremont High School.
Bill married
Elaine L. Mihulka on Sept. 24, 1949, in Fremont. He was a partner of EPE Insurance Enterprises at Fremont. He was past president of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Knights of Columbus Council 1497 of Fremont, the Fremont Life Underwriters, the Nebraska Life Leaders, Nebraska Association of Life Underwriters and the Fremont Golf Club. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Knights of Columbus Council 1497 and a past Grand Knight, and member of Fr. Leo Raus Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Mark (Julie) Emanuel of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Nancy (Doug) Leypoldt of Ralston, Sandy (Harold) Cone of Fremont, Karen Odinas of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brother, Donald (Dolores) Emanuel of Fremont; sisters Dolores Rief of Wisner and Agnes Lewis of Denver, Colo; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Nov. 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont with Rev. Owen Korte officiating. A private family burial was held at Calvary cemetery in Fremont.

Kathy L. Van Waes, October 28, 2008, age 48
Kathy L. Van Waes of Morse Bluff died Oct. 28, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1960, to Bill and JoAnn Van Waes at Jacksonville, N.C. As a child she lived in various areas while her father was in the military. She was a graduate of Craigmont High School, Memphis, Tenn. As a adult she lived in Valley, Omaha and Fremont before moving to North Bend in 2001 and later to Morse Bluff.
She was employed at Kerry Ingredients in Fremont.
Survivors include her daughter Lexie Scott of Morse Bluff; parents and brother Kerry Van Waes, all of Lowden, Iowa; and special friend Mitch Arps of Morse Bluff.
The funeral was Oct. 31 at the Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial was at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Deanna J. (Kuhn) Wolfe, October 25, 2008, age 64
Deanna J. Wolfe died Oct. 25, 2008, at Birchwood Manor. She was born April 25, 1944, in Columbus to Eugene and Marcella (Drummond) Kuhn and grew up on a farm near Fullerton. Her family move to Columbus where she graduated from Columbus High School.
Deanna lived in Lincoln, Omaha, Ft. Collins, Colo., before moving to North Bend in 2006.
She was united with Ron Schneider in 1987. He died in 2002.
Survivors include her son, James D. Wolfe of Lincoln; daughters Denise Wolfe of North Bend, Charlene (Saeed) Keyhan of La Vista, her parents of Columbus; brother Eugene (Deb) Kuhn Jr. of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sisters Joanne Lukery of David City, Sharon (Jim) Resh of Silver Creek; two grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, with the Rev. Maetta Snyder of the North Bend United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Doris (Garber) Chromy, October 4, 2008, age 47
Doris A. Chromy of Morse Bluff died Oct. 4, 2008, at her home. She was born June 22, 1961, in Lincoln to Eldon and Eleanor Garber. She attended grade school in Lincoln, moved to Norfolk where she attended high school before her family moved to North Bend in 1977. Doris was a 1979 graduate of North Bend Central High School. She attended Kearney State College for two years.
On July 25, 1981, Doris married
Donald G. Chromy in North Bend. Doris was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was involved in Sister’s of Faith LWML and was a member of the Morse Bluff Village Board.
Doris had been manager at North Bend Mini-Mart for the past 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Morse Bluff; sons Jacob Chromy of Ramstein, Germany, Mark Chromy of Morse Bluff, John Chromy of Ft. Riley, Kan.; parents Eldon and Eleanor Garber of North Bend; brothers Dan (Shu) Garber of West Point, Darrel Garber, Darren (Kris) Garber all of Pierce; sisters Donna (Paul) Obermann of Peoria, Ill., Darla Garber of Columbus; mother-in-law Dorothy Chromy of North Bend; sisters-in-law Kathy (Dan) Bauer, Jenne (Mike) Quinn of Columbus; brothers-in-law Steve (Audrey) Chromy of North Bend, Bob (Sandy) Chromy, Ed (Becky) Chromy, all of Fremont; 27 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Groh officiating. Visitation will be Oct. 8 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, followed by a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Morse Bluff.

Karen A. Finch, September 28, 2008, age 43
Karen A. Finch of Omaha died Sept. 28, 2008, at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Finch, birth son Justice Dake (parents Liz and Jim Dake) of Ames; daughters Erica, Ebony, Erin Finch; grandchildren Tashiya and Taniya McClinton, all of Omaha.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Omaha.
