Eugena (Barta) Kucera, September 26, 2008, age 88
Eugenia L. Kucera of Fremont died in her home early Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Eugenia was born Sept. 3, 1920 in Rescue Joseph and Frances ‘Jurek’ Barta. She lived most of her life in Fremont.
On Oct. 20, 1975, she married
to Ernest G. Kucera,who preceded her in death.
Eugenia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sister Gabriella Barta of Fremont; three nephews
Graveside service were Sept. 30 at Calvary cemetery in Fremont. Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements. Obit dated Oct. 1, 2008
Lenor F. Benesch, September 22, 2008, age 87
Lenor F. Benesch of Schuyler died Sept. 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Schuyler.
Funeral services were Sept. 27 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial was at the Schuyler cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion
Lenor was born April 26, 1921, in Edholm, Nebraska, to Emanuel and Frances (Liskovec) Benesch. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1938, after which he went to Washington, D.C. and worked in the Civil Service. On Sept. 22, 1942, he entered the Army, serving in the European Theater as an airplane mechanic. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Schuyler.
On August 7, 1951, Lenor and Geraldine Abraham were married
at St. Augustine. He worked for Frontier Oil Company, Schuyler Coop and at Wagner Mills. After retiring, he worked at the Schuyler Golf Club in course management.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Schuyler Legion and Schuyler VFW where he was Treasurer.
Lenor is survived by his wife Geraldine of Schuyler, two sons, Dr. Kevin (Debbie) Benesch of Lincoln, Dr. Curtis (Dr. Neeru Sehgal) Benesch of Rochester, New York.; four grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Benesch of Schuyler.

Maxine (Henderson) Wilshusen Engle, Millard, July 24, age 95
Maxine J. Wilshusen Engel of Millard died July 24 at Good Samaritan Society – Millard.
She was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Hampton to Harry and Vera (Harrington) Henderson. She grew up in the Polk and Hordville areas. Maxine married
Ralph H. Wilshusen on July 8, 1935, in Kearney. After her marriage the couple lived in California and then returned to Nebraska where they farmed in North Bend area. Maxine worked for many years at the Campbell’s Soup Company in Fremont. Maxine retired in 1975 and moved to Fremont. Ralph died April 13, 1976. In Nov. of 1976 Maxine married
Al Engel and they lived on a farm south of Fremont and then lived in Florida for 13 years before moving to Omaha in 1993. Al died Oct. 27, 2000, and Maxine has remained in the Omaha area.
Survivors include two sons, two daughters, one sister, 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Matthew Schneider will officiate. There is no visitation. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.

Sylvester "Vess" Parr, Fremont, July 24, age 92
Sylvester “Vess” Parr died July 24 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.
Vess was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Dodge to Bernard and Margaret (Burenheide) Parr. He grew up in Dodge and married
Gloria Muller on Sept. 9, 1943. He farmed near Dodge and in North Bend from 1963 to 1980. Vess moved to North Bend in 1980 and then to Fremont in 1997.
Vess was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont; and the Knights of Columbus #3736 in North Bend. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, and St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; sons Richard Parr and Rodney Parr, both of Fremont; daughters Sandra (Bob) Chromy, Wanda (Terry) Rucker, all of Fremont and Carmen Kugler of North Bend; brothers Gilbert (Leona) Parr of Fremont and Ralph Parr of Schuyler; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dave Belt will officiate. Visitation is Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m., and a Vigil Service/Rosary at 7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation Thursday is at the church one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Fremont.

Daryle "Fuzz" Dale, North Bend, July 18, age 81
Daryle H. “Fuzz” Dale of North Bend died July 18 at Birchwood Manor in North Bend.
Fuzz was born April 27, 1930, in rural Rogers to Henry and Helen (Novak) Dale. He grew up on a farm in the Webster area and graduated from North Bend High School in 1947. He married
Vivian Stubbert on Nov. 14, 1948, in North Bend. Fuzz farmed for a few years then worked for Dekalb Seed Company, hauling seed to dealers for 20 years. He then sold crop insurance for Berry and Company in Omaha. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; sons Larry (Ginger) Dale of Newport, Ore., Doug (Carol) Dale of Fremont and Lanny (fiancée Eva Kinyon) Dale of Omaha; daughters Daralyn (Stephen) Dirkschneider of Snyder and Deb (Steven) Kunasek of Fremont; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were July 22 at the United Presbyterian Church in North Bend with a private burial at Glencoe cemetery near Dodge.

Josie (Capps) Harrold, Fremont, July 10, age 47
Josie L. Harrold of Fremont died July 10 at her home.
Josie was born Aug. 29, 1963, in Omaha. She grew up in Fremont and was a graduate of Fremont High School. She moved to North Bend in 1994 and then to Harvard in 1996. She lived in Broken Bow, from 1998 until returning to Fremont in 2004. Josie was employed as a cook at the Coffee Pot Café in Fremont.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Harrold of Fremont; sons Lloyd Reeves of Fremont, Eric Reeves of Carter Lake, Iowa, and Willy (Hope) Reeves of Washington; daughters Amanda Reeves of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Nicole Reeves of Fremont, Danelle Weiland of Lincoln and Jessica Weiland of Omaha; her father and step-mother, George and Dorothy Capps of Fremont; sisters Kim Capps of North Bend, Barbara (Cory) Schnoor of Dalton, Ala., Cathy Honeywell, Theresa Elliott, Patty (Ron) Larsen, Cindy (Darin) Morton and Michelle Schreck, all of Fremont and Rita Wachlin of Austin, Minn; grandmother Betty Price of Fremont; father-in-law and mother-in-law Bob and Nancy Harrold of Broken Bow; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. July 15 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont. Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be 2 p.m. July 18 at Ridge cemetery in Fremont.

Leon "Leo" Semrad, North Bend, July 7, age 88
Leon M. “Leo” Semrad of North Bend died July 7 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Leo was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Edholm to Joseph and Antonette (Pacl) Semrad. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1941. Leo served in the U.S. Army in Japan and the Asiatic Pacific during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He lived in the North Bend and Morse Bluff area his whole life. He owned and operated the Bluffs Pub and a bait shop in Morse Bluff and was a life-long farmer.
Leo married
Kathleen Powers Feb. 9, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clyde. Leon was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, Knights of Columbus Council #3736 of North Bend, American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff, and V.F.W. Post #8223 of North Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; daughters Kathleen (LaVern) Krepel of North Bend, JoAnne Krueger of Columbus, Patricia (Dale) Clark of Cambridge, Iowa, Cindy (John) Limbach of North Bend, Teri (Steve) Hamilton of North Bend and Deb (Dave) Stoupa of Lincoln; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter Mary Dieckmann; brother Joseph Semrad; sisters Wilma Dlouhy and Edith Arps; and great-granddaughter Hailey Neill.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. July 12 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, with burial at Woodland cemetery in North Bend. Full military honors were conducted by the North Bend V.F.W. Post #8223, AMVETS Post #20 and Morse Bluff American Legion Post #340.

Anton Eckstein, Linwood, July 4, age 87
Anton Eckstein of Linwood died July 4 at Fremont Area Medical Center from a heart attack suffered on his farm.
Anton was born July 1, 1924, in the Morse Bluff area to Vaclav and Otillia (Werverka) Eckstein. He attended rural school in Saunders County and graduated from North Bend High School in 1943. He married
Joan Toman Sept. 26, 1958, in Fremont and farmed in the Linwood area until he retired in 2009.
Anton is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters Tillie Eckstein of Genoa, Cindy (Mark) Madsen of Linwood; son Frank Eckstein; and grandchildren Samantha Hultquist, Mackenzie and Charles Madsen.
Funeral services were July 8 at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler with Father Christian Goodwin officiating.

Agnes (Haba) Kucera, September 16, 2008, age 93
Agnes Kucera of Schuyler died Sept.16, 2008, at David Place in David City. Funeral services were Sept, 20 at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with Jerry L. Kracl speaking. Burial was at Linwood Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested for the Linwood Hill Cemetery.
Agnes was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Rescue to Joseph and Rosalie (Kliment) Haba. She graduated from Prague High School.
On Nov. 24, 1942, she married
Edward T. Kucera in David City. They farmed near Linwood until moving to Schuyler in 1989. He died in 2005. She served as Secretary for the Linwood Hill Cemetery, was a member of the Linwood Community Club and volunteered at the Schuyler Eagle’s Club.
Agnes is survived by daughters Geraldine (Gary) Polacek of Bruno, Karen (Alden) Kment of Schuyler, Loretta (Edwin Jr.) Patchen of Fremont, Jeanette (Tim) Blake of Schuyler; brother William Elmer Haba of David City, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Helen M. (Coen) Jones, September 15, 2008, age 79
Helen Marie Jones of Green Forest, Ark., died Sept. 15, 2008, at her home. She was born Nov. 22, 1928, to Lawrence and Marie (Mehaffey) Coen of North Bend.
She was married
to Rex Jones. Together they operated the Cozy Court Motel in Green Forest. He preceded her in death, Helen continued to operate the hotel until her death.
Survivors include sons John Emerson of Jaspar, Ark., William Emerson of Las Vegas, Nev., James Emerson of Garland, Texas; daughters Ellen Spickerman of Omaha, Ruth Sake of Valley, Libby Lilly of Woodbury, Minn.; brother Jim Coen of North Bend.
