Angela R. (Jurovsky) Kammerer, July 16, 2008, age 86
Angela Rose (Jirovsky) Kammerer, originally from the North Bend-Fremont area, died July 16, 2008, at Parker, Colo.
She was born on June 2, 1922, in Stanton, attended public schools in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School.
On June 4, 1941, married
Carlyle Kammerer. They farmed for a short time in North Bend before he was drafted at the beginning of World War II. During the war they lived at various Army bases in California and Washington. After the war, they moved back to North Bend, where they continued farming until 1976 when they retired and moved to Fremont. Angela worked at Campbell’s Soup in Fremont for many years.
After her husband of 52 years passed away in 1993, she moved to Mesa, Ariz., to be closer to her sisters MaryAnn and Marcella.
In Nov. 2004, she moved to Victorian House in Parker to be closer to her immediate family.
She was a member of the North Bend Presbyterian Church and then later the Fremont Presbyterian Church and several church and social circles.
Survivors include sons, Carlyle Jr. (Mary) of Parker, Robert (Suellyn) of Alliance, Jerry (Pat) of Schuyler; four grandsons; two granddaughters, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson Ryan Brichacek.
Memorial Service was held on July 26 in Parker.
Graveside services will be held at Memorial cemetery in Fremont, Nebraska on Aug. 16, 2008 at 9 a.m. with Rev. William Lewis of the Fremont Presbyterian Church officiating. Obit dated 8/13/08
Michael G. Odvody, July 12, 2008, age 52
Michael G. Odvody of Snyder died Saturday, July 12, as a result of a motorcycle accident on Highway 79 north of North Bend.
Michael was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Fremont. He grew up on a farm near Morse Bluff and attended District 14 School. He was also a 1974 graduate of North Bend Junior Senior High School and a graduate of Denver Motorcycle Institute.
He has lived in the area all his life, except for short periods in Colo. and Mont. He drove sprint cars for several years.
Michael is survived by his father and step-mother, George and Ann Odvody, of Granite, Colo. and sister, Susan (Andy) Cylke of El Cajon, Calif.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 17, at 3 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery. Rev. Fred Anderson will officiate. There is no visitation, however, friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff. Obit dated 7/16/08
Vonda M. (Buchholtz) Dolezal, July 9, 2008, age 77
Vonda M. Dolezal of Morse Bluff died July 9, 2008, at Birchwood Manor.
Vonda was born Oct. 10, 1930, to Albert and Lilly (Butcher) Buchholtz of North Bend. She grew up in Winnebago, moving to Morse Bluff in 1941 and attending Morse Bluff schools.
On June 9, 1947, Vonda married
Lawrence F. Dolezal in Wahoo. They lived on the Dolezal family farm southwest of Morse Bluff. Vonda managed the D&D Cafe located next to the Champlin gas station on Highway 30 in North Bend in the early 1970s.
Vonda was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness and attended Kingdom Hall in Fremont.
Survivors include sons Larry (Pam) Dolezal of Morse Bluff, Kenny (LaZelle) Dolezal of North Bend; daughters Lenice (Ken Jr.) Lowther, Deborah (Vince) Perry, all of Fremont, Carla Dolezal-Soukup of Nickerson; sisters Betty (Lumir) Bures of Clarkson, Dee Ann (Jim) Allender of Morse Bluff; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was July 12 at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, with Mike Werner officiating. Burial was at Fleming cemetery near Morse Bluff.

Clare (Gaughen) Gocken, June 30, 2008, age 96
Clare A. (Gaughen) Gocken, formerly of North Bend, died June 30 at her home at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.
Clare grew up in North Bend and was a 1929 graduate of NBHS.
On Sept. 12, 1931 Clare married
Leonard Iske and the couple farmed in the Webster area for 46 years. Following Leonard’s death, Clare moved to Fremont and later married
Marvin Gocken on Dec. 5, 1979. Marvin died in 2000.
She is survived by son Charles (Gorgene) Iske of North Bend; daughters Mary Jean (Martin) Paup of Seattle, Wash., Margaret Iske and Helen (Ken) Tallerico both of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held for Clare Saturday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Rev. Ron Battiato will officiate. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 3, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, both at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. There will also be a visitation Saturday at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery.
Memorials are requested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dodge County Humane Society, and the North Bend Volunteer Fire Department. Obit dated July 2, 2008
Betty (Satorie) Argo, June 28, 2008, age 67
Betty Argo of Colorado died June 28, 2008, after a five year battle with multiple myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow.
Elizabeth Lou Satorie was born to Ted and Josephine (Tresnak) Satorie in the family farmhouse near North Bend on Nov. 4, 1941. She graduated from North Bend High School and attended the University of Nebraska.
Betty and Jim Argo were married
in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend on New Year’s Eve in 1960. They spent most of their lives together in Colorado.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by five children: Jeff of Rochester, Mich.; Mark of Erie, Colo.; Chris of Boulder, Colo.; Joan of Bozeman, Mont.; Steve of Los Gatos, Calif. and their families. Surviving siblings are Dick and Don of North Bend, Tom of Lincoln; sister Ruth of Fremont, and their families.
A memorial service was held July 2 in Loveland, Colo.

Beverly C. Booze, June 28, 2008, age 70
Beverly C. Booze of North Bend died Saturday June 28 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Beverly was born June 11, 1938.
On Dec. 8, 1954, she was wed to Lawrence Booze. Having lived in Fremont and Cedar Bluffs previously, the couple resided in North Bend for the past five years.
She is survived by her husband, sons Jeffrey (Mari) Booze of Prague and Keith Booze of Fremont, daughters Susie (Tom) Townsend of Fremont and Nancy (Randy) Silvey of Craig, brother Ron (Linda) Kincanon of Fremont, sister Patricia Sinnett of Valley, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 2 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and was officiated by Rev. Scott Jensen. A private burial was held at Memorial cemetery in Fremont. Obit dated July 2, 2008
Raymond E. Strauss, June 20, 2008, age 74
Raymond E. “Ray” Strauss of North Bend and formerly Lincoln, died June 20, 2008, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Ray was born in McCool Junction, on Oct. 9, 1933, and was raised in Cordon, Ind. He entered the Army at the age of 16 and served during the Korean War from March 20, 1951 to April 28, 1955. After his time in the Army, he moved to Lincoln and started work for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, retiring after 41 years. Ray came to North Bend in 2004.
On July 1, 1960, Ray was wed to Nancy J. Dygert in Thayer.
Ray was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years, was a former member of the York American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and was a current member of the Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340 as well as North Bend VFW Post 8223 and North Bend AM Vets Post 20.
He was also a member of the North Bend Masonic Lodge, St. Charles Catholic Church and North Bend Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include wife Nancy Strauss of North Bend; sons Steve (Susan) Strauss of Omaha, Pat (Kathy) Strauss of Bozeman, Mont.; sisters Barbara Cudaback of Sterling, Karolyn Turner and Sandra (Wayne) Hurd of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral was held June 24 in North Bend at St. Charles Catholic Church with Revs. Donald Cleary and James Dawson officiating. Military graveside services conducted at Woodland Cemetery.
Francis E. Tomek, June 19, 2008, age 72
Francis E. Tomek of Prague died June 19, 2008 in Lincoln. Services were held June 23 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague with Rev. Homes officiating. Committal was held at St. John’s cemetery in Prague with military honors.
Francis was born June 5, 1936, to Frank and Elsie (Roh) Tomek and graduated from Prague High School. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a member of the Prague Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans of Lincoln.
Francis was employed by the United States Postal Service for 10 years and recently retired from owning and operating TOM TOMS Bar and Grill in Dwight for 16 years.
He is survived by sister, Marlene Dailey and nephew, Greg (Lisa) Dailey of Lincoln, as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and a great-neice and -nephew.
Emily (Walla) Dunker, June 15, 2008, age 100
Emily W. Dunker of Fremont died June 15, 2008, at Edgewood Vista in Fremont.Emily was born Jan. 19, 1908, to James and Mary (Beranek) Walla in North Bend. She was a 1924 graduate of North Bend High School.
On March 18, 1928, Emily married
Harold W. Dunker at the Purple Cane parsonage northwest of North Bend. The couple moved to Omaha where Emily was employed at the Brandise store. Harold died June 14, 1961.
Emily married
Alvin Dunker on April 6, 1963, in Omaha. They moved to Tonganoxie, Kan., and later Lansing, Kan. Alvin died Sept. 25, 1991. Emily moved to Fremont in 1992, where she was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Survivors include sons Harold (Dolores) Dunker of Fremont, Keith (Dorothy) Dunker of Benton, Ky.; step-sons Verlin (Millie) Dunker of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Bill Dunker of Sarasota, Fla.; step-son-in-law Joe Gastl of Shawnee, Kan.; sister Nadine Ristau (Mel) Haynes of Fremont; nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was June 20 at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Delvin Hutton and Sandy Terry officiating. Burial was at Woodland cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials are suggested for the Alzheimer’s Association or the donor’s favorite charity.

Leona (Ruzicka) Walla, May 24, 2008, age 101
Leona (Ruzicka) Walla of North Bend, died May 24, 2008, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday May 29, at First United Methodist Church in North Bend. Committal was at Woodland Cemetery, North Bend.
Leona was born April 26, 1907, and grew up on a farm northwest of North Bend. She was a 1925 graduate of North Bend High School.
After her marriage to Willis “Bill” Walla on Aug. 2, 1932, she lived on a farm north of North Bend until moving to town in 1974. She had been residing at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont since June of 2000.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the church’s women's society, Ruth Chapter 119 Order of Eastern Star and the Rebecca Lodge, all of North Bend. Leona was also a member of Goldenrod Garden Club, Maple Grove Extension Club and Western Fraternal Lodge of Morse Bluff.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents Emil W. and Dena (Belik) Ruzicka, husband Willis Walla, brothers Alvin and Emil Ruzicka, and a daughter, Mary Heese.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Donna (Mrs. Vernon) Bloemker of Washington, Pa. and Charlene (Mrs. Charles) Greene of Arcadia, Calif, son-in-law Norman Heese of Scribner, Ne., eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
