Dorothy (Prchal) Chromy, Morse Bluff, June 14, age 88
Dorothy M. Chromy of Morse Bluff died June 14 at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Dorothy was born March 12, 1923, in Omaha to Charles and Matilda (Riedman) Prchal. She grew up in Omaha and married
Stephan F. “Steve” Chromy on Jan. 18, 1945, at St. Rose Church in Omaha. Steve died July 30, 1986. After her marriage she lived in Malmo for 10 years and then moved to Morse Bluff. Dorothy worked for several years at Blevins Popcorn Plant in North Bend, as well providing child care. She moved to North Bend in 2003.
Dorothy was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff and the altar society. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #340 of Morse Bluff and VFW Auxiliary Post #8223 of North Bend.
Survivors include sons Steve (Audrey) Chromy of North Bend, Robert (Sandy) Chromy and Edward (Becky) Chromy, all of Fremont and Donald Chromy of North Bend; daughters Kathy (Dan) Bauer of Morse Bluff and Jeanne (Mike) Quinn of Columbus; brothers Thomas (Lorraine) Prchal of Storm Lake, Iowa and Louis (Ginny) Prchal of Plattsmouth; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral mass was June 18 at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff with burial at Cedar Hill cemetery in Morse Bluff.
Memorials may be directed to St. George Catholic Church, North Bend Senior Center or American Legion Auxiliary of Morse Bluff.

Dorothy (Parrett) Guyle, Fremont, June 4, age 77
Dorothy M. Guyle of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, died June 4 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. Dorothy was born June 5, 1933, in McLouth, Kan. to Glenn and Katherine (Vantyl) Parrett. She grew up in McLouth and was a 1951 graduate of Scandia, Kan. She moved to Haddam, Kan. and lived in various cities until moving to Gothenburg in 1961. Dorothy married
Vernon L. Guyle on Sept. 9, 1965, in North Platte. Vernon died Nov. 9, 1990.
Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Peterson’s IGA for nine years until moving to the Mead area. She later moved to Fremont and lived there until moving to North Bend in 1988. Dorothy worked at the Fremont Area Medical Center in the accounting department until retiring. She then worked part-time as a bookkeeper at True Value Hardware Store in North Bend and for Beed’s Auto Parts and Service. She returned to Fremont in 2008.
Dorothy is survived by son Gary (Laurie) Guyle of Mead; daughter Glenda (Mark) Williamson of Rogers, Ark.; brothers Bob (Lucille) Parrett of Fremont and Frank (Alberta) Parrett of Manhattan, Kan.; sister Olive Richardson of Walker, Minn.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter, Linda Kay.
Memorial Service is 10:30 a.m. on Wed., June 8, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, with burial at the Gothenburg cemetery in Gothenburg.
Memorials may be given to the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Dick Hanna, Lincoln, June 3, age 82
Richard C. “Dick” Hanna died June 3 in Lincoln.
Dick was born March 18, 1929, in Lynn, Mass., to Marcus and Frances (Hill) Hanna.
Dick attended college at Nebraska Wesleyan. He married
Beth Jansen on Dec. 30, 1951, in her hometown of North Bend.
After Dick graduated in 1952, he and Beth moved to Rochester, Minn., where Dick attended the School of Physical Therapy at Mayo Clinic. When he was certified in 1954, they moved back to northeast Lincoln where Dick worked with Lincoln Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Clinic. He went on to purchase the practice and renamed it Southside Physical Therapy. Dick retired in 1996.
During his life Dick was a member of First United Methodist Church, Northeast Rotary Club, numerous physical therapy organizations, Kappa Tau at Nebraska Wesleyan and Coaches Club at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Survivors include wife Beth Hanna; son Bob (Vanessa) Hanna of Lincoln; daughters Becky (Tim Keelan) Hanna; Wendy (Bill Gallentine) Hanna, all of Lincoln; sister Doreen Osborne, Bradford, Mass.; sisters-in-law Evelyn Hanna, of North Andover, Mass and Alice Dykeman of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren
Services were June 8 at First United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Linda (Popken) Baumert, North Bend, May 11, age 49
Linda S. Baumert of North Bend died May 11 near North Bend in a car accident.
Linda was born Feb. 13, 1962, in West Point to Stanley and Ione (Hasemann) Popken. She grew up in Uehling and graduated from Logan View High School in 1980. She received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1983.
Linda married
Kurt Baumert on Oct. 19, 1984, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Uehling. They moved to North Bend and Linda taught first grade at Schuyler Elementary for 27 years.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and was active in the church choir. She was also a member of P.E.O. in North Bend.
Survivors include her husband Kurt; son Tyler Baumert of Lincoln; daughters Ashley (Broc) Blanchard of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kelly Baumert of Lincoln and Amy Baumert of North Bend; parents Stanley and Ione Popken of Fremont; brother David (Michelle) Popken of Boca Raton, Fla.; sister Barb (Darrell) Sagehorn of Dallas, Texas and Nancy (Jack) Hank of San Antonio, Texas.
Memorial Mass was May 14 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery in Ridgley, near Scribner.

Hazel (Greaser) Matejicek, North Bend, Oct. 3, 2009, age 98
Hazel A. Matejicek died Oct. 3 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Hazel was born Nov. 3, 1910, to Theodore and Lucy (Nestroyl) Greaser of North Bend. She was a life long resident of the North Bend area, working on the family farm and taking care of her father during his illness.
On May 2, 1935, Hazel married
Charles J. Matejicek in Omaha. He died July 22, 1999.
Hazel is survived by brother Douglas (Betty) Greaser of Siverdale, Wash.; sister Fern DeVoe of North Bend; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend with the Rev. Fred Andersen officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, North Bend.
Memorials are suggested for North Bend Rescue Squad.

Michael Zachek, Lincoln, Oct. 1, 2009, age 60
Michael Zachek, 60, of Lincoln, died Oct. 1. He was born Oct. 3, 1948, in Eagle to Henry and Arlene (Parker) Zachek. He served in the US Army and was a member of the VFW #131 and #3606.
Survivors includes wife Pat Zachek of Lincoln; sons Michael Zachek of Seward, Richard (Rachel) of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren; siblings Karen (Earl) Wallace, Bill (Joan) Zachek, Don (Diane) Zachek, all of Lincoln, Ed (Marilee) Zachek of Davenport, Patti (Greg) Nelson and Joe Zachek, all of Dodge.

Brit R. Aufenkamp, Fremont, Sept. 6, 2009, age 55
Britt R. Aufenkamp of Fremont died Sept. 26 at his home.
Britt was born Aug. 6, 1954, to Robert and Betty Aufenkamp of Burke, S.D. The family moved to Fremont in 1968. Britt was a graduate of Fremont High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was member of First Congregational Church in Fremont and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 in Fremont.
On June 19, 1976, Brit married
Pam Heinmann. She survives
Other survivors include sons Michael Aufenkamp of Norfolk, Heath Aufenkamp of Fremont, Jacob (Megan) Aufenkamp of Omaha; daughter Heather (Mick) Rahlfs of Fremont; mother Betty Sawyer of Fremont; brothers Joe (Nettie) Aufenkamp of Nickerson, Steve (Bev) McCarthy of Moline, Ill.; sisters Sherry ( Russell) Miller, Chris (Walter) Powell, all of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and others.
A memorial service was held Sept. 30 at Firest Congregational Chrch with Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating. Burial was at Ridge cemetery in Fremont with military honors.
Memorials have been established for the the First Congregational Church Youth Club and the American Cancer Society.

Donald Johnk, Schuyler, Sept. 2009, age 86
Donald Johnk’s funeral service was Sept. 25 at Kracl Funeral Chapel with Lay Minister Jerry L. Kracl officiating. Burial will be at Schuyler cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post #4836 of the VFW and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion
Don was born June 7, 1923, in Colfax County to Herman and Anna Kucera(Sedlak) Johnk. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1939. He entered the United States Army in 1943 and served in the European Theater.
On July 8, 1947, he married
Darlyne Speckman in Columbus. Don was an electrician and owned and operated Modern Electric in Schuyler for 27 years. He then worked for Monfort of Colorado as Electrical Superintendent from
1982-1990. Following his retirement he assumed the position of Building Inspector for the City of
Schuyler for 17 years.
Don was a past Member of the American Legion, VFW, St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge, and the Last Man’s Club.
Don is survived by his wife Darlyne of Schuyler and daughter Candace Johnk of Columbus. Obit dated Sept. 30, 2009
Bernice (Busch) Heavican, Schuyler, Sept. 19, 2009, age 96
Funeral services for Bernice M. Heavican were Sept. 26 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Augustine’s with Rev. Gerald Leise officiating.
Burial was at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are suggested for St. Augustine’s Catholic Church and the Benedictine Mission House
Bernice died Sept. 19 at the Golden Living Assisted Living in Schuyler. Bernice was born Sept, 10, 1913, in Schuyler to George and Bertha (Held) Busch. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1931, attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and taught country school in Colfax County for 6 years.
On June 7, 1937, Bernice married
Martin F. Heavican at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. They farmed and raised their family, northeast of Schuyler.
Bernice was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, served on the Parish Council, Little Flower Altar Society, was a Charter Member of the Mother Cabrini Study Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Grandview Extension Club and was a volunteer for the bloodmobile.
She is survived by daughter Jean (Robert) Augustine, Lincoln; three sons Robert (Sally) Heavican, Mission Viejo, Calif.; Mike Heavican, Lincoln; George (Christine) Heavican of Ventura, Calif.; daughter-in-law Marilyn Heavican of Schuyler, sister-in-law Monica Pieper of Dodge; 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
