Richard B. Glodowski, Scribner, Aug. 19, 2009, age 78
Richard B. Glodowski of Scribner died Aug. 19 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Richard was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Scribner to Frank and Elsie (Lhotak) Glodowski. He attended school at District 29 and graduated from Scribner High School in 1949. He helped his dad and brother on a dairy and livestock farm west and south of Scribner until he went to the Army in 1952.
Richard married
Betty Popken in Hooper at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on April 28, 1953. He left for active duty in Korea in May and was in Korea for 18 months. He returned home in the fall of 1955 and worked for Hans Nielsen east of Fremont until the fall of that year when he and Betty moved to a farm south of Scribner and started a dairy operation. He had livestock and farmed there all of his life, selling the dairy herd about 1993.
Richard was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 3736 in North Bend and was a fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2071 in Fremont. He was a member of the VFW Post 8223 in North Bend and the American Legion Post 121 in Scribner. Richard served on the board of the Lower Elkhorn NRD for many years and on the school board at District 93.
Survivors include his wife, son David Glodowski of Ames; daughters Julie Todd of Fremont, Diane (Wendell) Ray of Greenfield, Iowa, Pat (Eddie) Garcia of Mesa, Ariz., Terri (Doyle) Petersen of Firth, Lisa (Russ) Barnes of Minneapolis, Minn., Susan (Ken) Goodall of Hardy; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother Ralph (Marge) Glodowski of North Bend; sister Betty Elbracht of Howells.
The Funeral Mass will be Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Catholic Church at Scribner. The Rev. Vitalis Anyanike will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Ridgeley Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the North Bend and Scribner Rescue Squads.
Visitation will be on Aug. 28 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue 1 hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Gerald E. Tank, North Bend, Aug. 13, 2009, age 91
Gerald E. Tank died at this home Aug. 13. Gerald was born May 3, 1918, to Edward and Elsie (Miller) Tank in Fremont. He was a lifelong resident of North Bend.
On Nov. 9, 1938, Gerald married
Gladys A. Maas in Sioux City, Iowa. She died May 30, 1996.
Gerald was the first manager of North Bend’s first modern bowling alley, G&S Bowl. He farmed north of North Bend. In 2001 Gerald‘s family farm was recognized for being owned by one family for 100 years, receiving the AkSarBen Pioneer Farm Family Award.
Survivors include sons Mickey Tank of North Bend, Rickey (Connie Mimick) Tank of Silver Creek; daughter Betty Harney of Columbus; sister Violet Wagner of Omaha; grandson Jay (Terri) Burton; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Aug. 17 at Moser Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Fred Andersen officiating.
Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery.

Edgar M. Kort, North Bend, Aug. 11, 2009, age 93
Edgar M. Kort died Aug. 11 at Fremont Area Medical Center. Ed was born July 30, 1916, to Richard and Annette (Meyer) Kort in Ayr. He grew up in the Blue Hill and Hastings area, graduating from Hastings High School in 1934. He was a Western Union messenger during his school years and was a graduate of Western Union College in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Ed served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant.
He was employed by Western Union for 15 years before purchasing Bachman Music Co. in North Bend and renaming it Kort Amusement Co. which he operated until retiring in 1993.

Laura Serr at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Ed was a member of North Bend’s St. Peter Lutheran Church, VFW Post 8223, AmVets Post 20, American Legion Post 340, past president of Coin Operators Industries of Nebraska; past International Director of Music Operators of America; served 16 year with Toastmasters International, holding all offices in the club, area, division, district, achieved status of Able Toastmaster, was selected as governor of the year, district toastmaster of the year and entered the International Toastmasters Hall of Fame.
The funeral was Aug. 15 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Groh officiating. Military grave side services were conducted by members of VFW Post 8223, AmVets Post 20 and American Legion Post 340. Burial was at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Survivors include his wife Laura, son Tom (Diane) Kort of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters Patricia Kort of Omaha, Cheryl (Curt) Peterson of Fremont; sister Esther Reibr of Rogers, Ark.; five grandchildren.

Catherine Hamilton, Omaha, Aug. 10, 2009, age 91
Catherine Hamilton died Aug. 10 in Omaha. She was born, March 13, 1918, to Roland T. and Audrey (Kendrick) Hamilton of North Bend. She attended Midland College in Fremont and taught school and was in personnel management at Mutual of Omaha.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Omaha and PEO.
She is survived by brother David (Sally) Hamilton; sister-in-law, Norma Hamilton, all of North Bend; a step-sister, Rosella Pageler of Cedar Bluffs.
Visitation is Thursday 4-7 p.m., family present 6-7 p.m. at Crosby Colonial Chapel in Omaha. Graveside Service Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Purple Cane Cemetery, Rogers.

Kennedy L. Vyhlidal, North Bend, Aug. 8, 2009, infant
Kennedy Leigh Vyhlidal was stillborn on Aug. 8 at Fremont Area Medical Center. She is the daughter of Amanda and Derek Vyhlidal of North Bend.
Other survivors include sister Charity, brother, Peyton, grandparents Donna and Cory Mueller of Morse Bluff, Monica Vyhlidal of North Bend and Daryl Vyhlidal of Fremont.

Darrell 'Cass' Harvat, North Bend, Aug. 8, 2009, age 81
Darrell L. “Cass” Harvat of North Bend, was born in Omaha on May 2, 1928, to Harry and Ethel (Rose) Harvat. Cass graduated from Omaha South High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He arrived in Korea on his 22nd birthday.
Cass worked for Cudahy Meat Packing in Omaha and in the Douglas County Assessors Office. He moved to North Bend in 1991 and was active in the VFW and AmVets. Cass had served on the board of the Morse Bluff - North Bend Area Veterans Memorial Park.
On Veteran’s Day 2006 Cass spoke at the North Bend Central Jr. - Sr. High student assembly encouraging students to consider how decisions they make affect others. He gave as an example how he decided to make a transfer while he was in Korea, the man who replaced him was killed two weeks later.
Cass also said that one of the best decisions he ever made was moving to North Bend. His daughter Laureen said he gave his heart and soul to North Bend.
Cass passed away Aug. 8 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. His body was cremated and the ashes were scattered by his family on the lake he lived beside south of North Bend.
He is survived by daughters GiGi Connolly of Phoenix, Ariz.,DeLinda Garza of Ashland, Laureen Quistad of Tampa, Fla., Bethany Terry, Jodean Mallory, both of Phoenix, Ariz; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Gathering was held Aug. 15 at the Morse Bluff-North Bend Area Veteran’s Memorial Park with Military Honors by VFW Post 8223, AmVets Post 20 and American Legion Post 340.
The family requests memorials to VFW Post 8223 of North Bend or to the Veterans Memorial Park Fund.

Eleanor (White) Armagost, Vancouver, Wash., Aug. 5, 2009, age 77
Eleanor Armagost, formerly of Schuyler, died Wednesday, August, 5, in Vancouver, Wash.
Funeral services will be Aug. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with the Rev. William Mattfeld officiating. There will be visitation Aug.16 from noon to 3 p.m. At Kracl Funeral Chapel. Committal will be at the Schuyler Cemetery.
Eleanor was born July 24, 1932, in Schuyler to Lawrence and Ema(Cuda) White and attended Schuyler Public Schools. On February 25, 1936, she married
Jack Armagost at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Schuyler. They lived in Schuyler and Eleanor worked at the Western Cafe and GM Express for many years. She was a member of the Schuyler VFW Auxiliary.
Eleanor is survived by sisters Joyce (Bob) Harshman and Edith Karsten, all of Vancouver; brothers Marvin White of Vancouver and Warren (Susan) White of Huntington Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Jack.

Gladys (Rezac) Soukup, North Bend, Aug. 5, 2009, age 81
Gladys E. Soukup died Aug. 5 at Arbor Manor in Fremont. She was born Feb. 1, 1928, to Leonard and Mary (Kucera) Rezac in Linwood. Gladys grew up south of Linwood and was a graduate of Schuyler High School.
On Oct. 5, 1946, Gladys married
Anton F. Soukup at Schuyler. They farmed south of Morse Bluff. Anton died Sept. 8, 1981.
Gladys moved to North Bend in Dec. 1983. She attended Southeast Community College to earn a Dietary Tech Degree and worked as the dietary service supervisor for Birchwood Manor for 34 years. She also catered weddings for 25 years.
Gladys was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend, VFW Post 8223 Auxiliary and American Legion Post 340 Auxiliary of Morse Bluff.
She is survived by daughter Janel (Mike) Harnan of Des Moines, Iowa; sons Anton L. (Linda) Soukup of Purcellville, Va., Jack (Nancy) Soukup of Davey, T. Scott (Susie) Soukup of Lake Villa, Ill., Jerry (Barb) Soukup of Morse Bluff, Russell (Sandy) Soukup of Omaha; nine grandchildren.
The funeral was Aug. 7 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Groh officiating. Burial was at Killian cemetery near Morse Bluff.
Memorials have been established for the North Bend New Library Building Fund, North Bend Senior Center and the Morse Bluff Fire Department.

Randy R. Anderson, Fremont, Aug. 2, 2009, age 57
Randy R. Anderson of Fremont died Aug. 2 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
He was born Jan. 24, 1952, to Clarence and Gerri Anderson at Kearney. He grew up in Gibbon, with the family moving to Arlington in 1967. Randy was a 1970 graduate of Arlington High School, after which he enlisted in the Air Force, serving until 1974 when he returned to Arlington. He moved to Fremont in 1982.
Randy worked for area farmers, as a mechanic at Victor’s Inc and at Western Sand & Gravel.
On Dec. 21, 1974, Randy married
Sue Wehner. They later divorced.
Survivors include son Matt Anderson of Fremont; daughter Michelle (Jeff) Kluthe of North Bend; mother Gerri Waage of North Bend; brothers Jay (Marlene) Anderson of Scribner, Gary (Sue) Anderson of North Bend, Denis (Theresa) Anderson of Fremont, Danny (Robin) Anderson of Arlington; three grandchildren.
The funeral is Aug. 5 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Scott Jensen, chaplain at FAMC officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the funeral. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20 of Fremont.
Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.
