Leona (O'Tool) Orth, North Bend, June 23, 2009, age 84
Leona Orth of North Bend, originally from Sac City, Iowa, passed away June 23 at Fremont Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial was held June 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City is in charge of arrangements.
Leona Thersia O’Tool was born on Feb. 13, 1925, in Breda, Iowa, to Arthur and Elnora (Schulte) O’Tool. She graduated from Sac Community School in 1942.
Leona worked at the bakery in Sac City and worked many years as a dental assistant for Dr. Mulsberry, Dr. Lee, and Dr. Egeland.
On July 31, 1952 she was united in marriage to Raymond Orth and they farmed near Sac City. In 1961 they moved to Newell where they farmed until they retired in 1981, at which time they moved back to Sac City. Raymond died Aug. 26, 2002.
In May 2008 Leona moved to North Bend to be closer to her daughter.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Diane (David) Stearns of North Bend; grandson Christopher Stearns (Michelle) of Lincoln; and two great-grandchildren. Obit dated July 1, 2009
Steven E. Doty, Ames, June 19, 2009, age 52
Steven E. Doty died June 19 at his home in Ames. He was born July 23, 1956, to Elmer and Lois Doty of Sioux City, Iowa.
Steve was raised in California and Fremont. He has lived most of his adult life in Ames and was self-employed in the family business, Fremont Homes Sales and Services.
On Feb. 5, 1977, Steve was married
to Debra Hazelton in Council Bluffs. Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fremont.
Steve is survived by his wife, son Adam (Jamie) Doty of North Bend; parents Elmer and Lois Doty of Fremont; sisters Donna (Keith) Lemke of Ames, Carol (Russ) Beardslee of El Reno, Okla. and two grandchildren.
The funeral was June 23 at First Baptist Church in Fremont with the Revs. Lee Foreman and Dale Lemke officiating. Burial will be at Ridge cemetery in Fremont.

Roland 'Pete' Petersen, Cedar Bluffs, June 18, 2009, age 86
Roland E. “Pete” Petersen died June 18 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
He was born June 21, 1922, to William and Sophia (Tetens) Petersen of Cedar Bluffs. Pete was a 1941 graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge he returned to the family farm near Cedar Bluffs. Pete also had a carpentry business. He moved to Battle Lake, Minn. in 1965 and operated a fishing resort. He retired in 1980, moving to Orum in 1991.
On July 31, 1944, Pete married
Marie Roubal in North Bend.
Pete was a life member of the American Legion Post 158 of Cedar Bluffs and VFW Post 8223 of North Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Marie of Cedar Bluffs; daughters Linda (Ronald) Kincanon of Fremont, Jan (David) Wahl of North Olmstead, Ohio; son William (Kathy) Petersen of Orum; sister Mary Ann (Veryl) Hapke of Cedar Bluffs; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was June 22 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orum with the Rev. Devlin Hutton officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery with military honors.
Memorials are suggested for the Cedar Bluffs American Legion post or the VFW Post of North Bend.

Dennis G. Stockamp, Scribner, June 8, 2009, age 80
Dennis G. Stockamp of Scribner died June 8 at the Scribner Good Samaritan Center.
Dennis was born Jan. 23, 1929, in rural Scribner to Albert and Emma (Kelberlau) Stockamp. He was baptized on Feb. 24, 1929, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and confirmed on July 12, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended rural District 82 school and Scribner High School through his sophomore year before quitting to help on the family farm. Dennis served in the Army during the Korean War.
On May 24, 1953, Dennis and Valiera M. Hoegemeyer were married
at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner. They were lifetime residents of the Scribner area, farming until moving into Scribner. Valiera died in Sept. 2008.
Dennis was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner, serving as Elder and also other Council Offices. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, VFW Post 8439 of Snyder and the American Legion Post 121 of Scribner.
Survivors include daughters – Mary (Jim) Spath of North Bend, Beth (Kerry) Boyle of Scribner; sons George (Janet) Stockamp,Paul (Dee) Stockamp, John (Lisa) Stockamp, Ernie (Shelly) Stockamp, all of Scribner; sister-in-law Elveretta Sutterfield of Loveland, Colo.; and 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was June 12 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bruce Schut officiating. Burial followed in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Obit dated June 17, 2009
John F. Theisen, Schuyler, June 6, 2009, age 83
John F. Theisen, DDS, died at his Schuyler home June 6. The Mass of Christian Burial will be June 10 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Gerald Leise officiating. Burial will be at the Schuyler cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell of the VFW and McLeod of the American Legion.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in Dr. Theisen’s memory.
John F. Theisen was born April 10, 1926, in Omaha to Dr. Frank and Viola (Muldoon) Theisen. He graduated in 1944 from St. Ludger’s Academy in Creighton, Neb., and then served in the Air Force for three years. John attended Creighton University, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1952.
On Aug. 16, 1952, he married
Valeria Schott at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Osceola. After his graduation they moved to Howells where he began his dental practice. Shortly thereafter they moved to Schuyler where he practiced dentistry until his retirement.
Dr. Theisen was Past American Legion Commander, member of the Schuyler VFW, President of the Schuyler Chamber of Commerce, Schuyler Mayor for eight years, Chairman of the original City of Schuyler Planning and Zoning Commission, appointed by Governor Ben Nelson to the Industrial Development Advisory Board, Grand Knight of the Schuyler Knights of Columbus, Member of the House of Delegates-Nebraska Dental Association,
He received the Wal-Mart Award for Mayors, Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award and the Theisen family was Schuyler’s Cathoic Family of the year in 1992.
John is survived by his wife Val of Schuyler, son Frank Theisen, daughters; Mary Jo (Mark) Stegman, Patty (Lans) Brown, and six grandchildren, all of Omaha. Obit dated June 10, 2009
Jack E. Tawney, North Bend, May 30, 2009, age 80
Jack E. Tawney of North Bend lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease May 30, dying at Birchwood Manor.
Jack was born to Walter J. and Alice C. (Williams) Tawney on March 3, 1929, in Morse Bluff. He was a 1946 graduate of North Bend High School. He worked at Hormels before serving 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Air Force in the Phillipines. After his discharge in 1953 he returned to Morse Bluff and Hormels. Jack moved to North Bend in 1955 and began farming, continuing to work at Hormels for 36 years, retiring in 1985.
On April 23, 1955, Jack married
Charlotte O’Hare at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. She survives.
Jack was a member of St. Charles Knights of Columbus Council 3736 for more than 50 years; VFW Post 8223; American Legion Post 340 and AmVets Post 20. He served many years on the Ames District 91 School Board.
Survivors include his wife, sons Pat (Jolene) Tawney of Fremont, Mike Tawney of Lincoln; daughters Theresa (Bruce) Busse, Mary Gaskill, Julie (Randy) Reznicek, all of North Bend, Jill (fiance Dr. David Mendlik) Mueller of Fremont; brother Larry (Joyce) Tawney of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers-in-law Norbert (Nancy) Stanley of North Bend, George (Ann) Odvody of Granite, Colo.; sister Judy Zeleny of Surprise, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren.
The funeral Mass was June 2 at St. Charles with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Fremont with Military grave side services conducted by VFW Post 8223, American Legion Post 340 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and Morse Bluff.
Memorials are suggested for the North Bend/Morse Bluff Veteran’s Park, North Bend Library New Building Fund or the North Bend Arboretum.

Denise (Urban) Kubik, May 25, 2009, age 57
Denise Kubik died May 25 at the Saunders County Medical Center in Wahoo. Funeral services were May 29 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague with the Rev. Jamie Hottovy officiating. Burial was at the Prague National Cemetery
Denise was born June 21, 1951, in Columbus to Dennis and Dorothy (Barcal) Urban. She attended school in Prague and graduated from Prague High School in 1969. She attended Platte College in Columbus and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
On September 4, 1971, she married
Robert F. Kubik at St. John’s Catholic Church. He survives.
Denise worked for Dr. Hinrichs in Wahoo, Birchwood Manor in North Bend, Fremont Area Medical Center for 13 years, the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, the Sunderbruch Corporation of Nebraska and most recently Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Omaha.
She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Nebraska Association of Healthcare Quality.
Other survivors include her sons, Brian (Angie) Kubik of Chaska, Minn., Jason (Carey) Kubik of Wichita, Kan.; mother Dorothy Urban of Prague; sisters, Dale Gran of Omaha and Deanna (Jeff) TePoel of Malmo and two grandchildren, Ian and Erin. Obit dated June 3, 2009
Dale E. Vice, Savannah, Mo. May 18, 2009, age 62
Dale Eugene Vice of Savannah, Mo., died May 18 at his home.
Dale was born July 21, 1946, to Worth and Gracie (Branaum) Vice of Sabetha, Mo. He lived in Falls City until moving to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1973.
Dale worked as a mechanic for St. Joseph Light and Power and then retired from St. Joseph Transit System after 25 years. He was a member of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 847, serving as president for ten years.
On Jan. 28, 1994, Dale married
Linda Chandler in St. Joseph. She survives.
Other survivors include his sons Reggie, at home, Darcy (Linda Cole); mother Gracie Posey of North Bend; brother Duane (Theresa) Armbruster of Preston, Mo.; sisters Cheri (Dennis) O’Hara of Fremont, Regina (John) Cummings of Falls City, Patty (Mike) Wennekamp of Rogers, and three grandchildren.
The funeral was May 22 with interment at Fillmore cemetery in Fillmore, Mo.

John J. Brtek, Prague, May 9, 2009, age 63
Funeral services for John J. Brtek will be Wed., May 13, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague with the Rev. Jamie Hottovy officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s cemetery with military rites.
John was born Oct. 27, 1945, in Prague, to John and Wilma (Svoboda) Brtek. He graduated from Prague High School and served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a self-employed salesman. John died May 9, 2009, at this home in Omaha.
John is survived by daughter, Jamie of Lincoln; sisters, Diane (Bob) Chmelka of Fremont and Betty (Pete) Hamata of North Bend; brother Roger Brtek of Omaha, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Obit dated May 13, 2009
