Bernice (Stoltenberg) Wittmersehouse, May 8, 2009, age 89
Bernice G. Wittmersehouse died May 8, 2009, in Fremont. She was born July 3, 1919, to Tom and Anna (Heinsohn) Stoltenberg of rural North Bend. Bernice graduated from Schuyler High School and received her teaching certificate from Midland Lutheran College.
On Oct. 1, 1939, Bernice married
Merlin Wittmerhouse at Papillion. He died March 19, 1993. In 1947 they moved to the Wittmersehouse family farm near Cedar Bluffs where Bernice taught country school until moving to Fremont in 1978. Bernice was active in the Presbyterian Church, 4-H, Extension Club. She was Society Editor of the Wahoo Newspaper and worked at J.C. Penney.
Survivors include daughter Rita (Ronald) Freeman of Colon, two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was May 12 at the Presbyterian Church in Fremont with the Rev. Dr. William Lewis officiating. Burial was at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Eldon J. Garber, North Bend, May 7, 2009, age 84
Eldon J. Garber died May 7, 2009. He was born to Walter and Emma (Sieck) Garber on Sept. 7, 1924, in Garland.
Eldon was raised in Garland and attended high school in Concordia, Mo., and Seward. He enlisted into the Army at age 18, serving from Dec. 1942 to Jan.1946 in the European Theater with the 44th Calvary.
After his discharge, Eldon returned to Nebraska, living in Lincoln and Platte Center. He moved to Texas in 1957 for two years, then returned to Lincoln, then Norfolk, before moving to North Bend in 1977 where he worked for Terra.
On June 3, 1951, Eldon married
Eleanor Hassebrook at Platte Center.
Eldon was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340, Life Member of VFW Post 8223. He served on the North Bend City Council for many years, serving as mayor for eight years. Eldon also served on the North Bend and Dodge County Planning Commissions.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of North Bend; sons Dan (Shu) Garber of West Point, Darrel Garber, Darren (Kristi) Garber, all of Pierce; daughters Donna (Paul) Obermann of Peoria, Ill., Darla Garber of Columbus; son-in-law Don Chromy of Morse Bluff; sister Marcy (Bob) Carter of Omaha; brother-in-law Bill Reed of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral was May 11 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Carl Groh officiating. Burial will be at Woodland cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 8223, AmVets Post 20 and American Legion Post 340.

Maxine (Ondracek) Bolte, Norfolk, April 26, 2009, age 82
Former North Bend resident Maxine M. Bolte died April 26, 2009, at Heritage Nursing Home in Norfolk.
Maxine was born March 29, 1927, to Anton and Irma (Ondracek) Chvatal of Morse Bluff. She grew up in Morse Bluff and was a 1944 graduate of Prague High School. She worked in Omaha for five years before her marriage.
Maxine married
Robert E. Bolte on June 2, 1951, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Clyde. They lived in Webster before moving to North Bend. Robert died Jan. 11, 1972. Maxine worked at Birchwood Manor and Kort Amusement for many years. She moved to Norfolk in 1998.
Survivors include sons Doug (Linda) Bolte of Norfolk, Tom Bolte of Columbus, Tony (Tina) Bolte of Little Rock, Ark.; daughters Julie (Bob) Rohleder of Norfolk, Beth Marie Bolte of Lincoln; brother Donald (Gladys) Chvatal of Morse Bluff; sisters-in-law, Kay (Lee) Snyder, Mary Gayman, both of Omaha, Wilma Bolte of Cedar Bluffs; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be April 29 at 10 a.m at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with the Rev. Gerald Connealy of St. Peter Catholic Church at Stanton officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. With the family receiving friends from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend.
Burial will be at Woodland cemetery in North Bend.

Alice (Vincent) Kruger, North Bend, April 19, 2009, age 86
Alice M. Kruger died April 19, 2009, at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln.
Alice was born Sept. 1, 1922, to Harold and Edna (Van Housen) Vincent of Schuyler. She grew up in Schuyler, graduating in 1940 from Schuyler High School. Alice served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After her discharge in 1946 she lived in Milwaukee, Wis., were she was employed in the offices of Allis Chambers, before returning to Schuyler. After moving to North Bend she worked at the Corner Cafe, City Cafe and North Bend Cleaners.
On Oct. 6, 1951, Alice married
Gerald L. Kruger in Omaha. He died April 20, 2007.
Alice was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary of Post 8223, American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff.
She is survived by sons William (Linda) Giddings, Jerry Kruger, all of North Bend; daughter Karen Fritzinger of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday, April 23 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday 9 to 10 a.m.. all at the funeral home.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW Post 8223, AmVets Post 20 both of North Bend, and American Legion Post 340. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, North Bend.

Michael Q. Guthrie, Nickerson, April 12, 2009, age 23
Michael Q. Guthrie of Nickerson died April 12 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Michael was born April 26, 1985, in Mishawaka, Ind. At the age of 11 he moved to Fremont for a year and then to Nickerson. He attended Logan View High School.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Michael worked as a welder at RK Aerials in Fremont and was a member of the Nickerson Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his mother Sara Jane (Rick) Tucker of Nickerson; father Michael (Fawn) of South Bend, Ind.; Fiancee Brandee Edson of Nickerson; brother Martin Guthrie of Nickerson; grandparents Marjorie Forsythe of Ind., Cheri and Willard Schulz of Fremont.
The funeral is April 15, 10:30 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with Rev. Robert Hayden officiating. Burial will be at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Frances E. Wesch, Rogers, April 6, 2009, age 90
Frances E. Wesch of Rogers died April 6 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in North Bend to Gus and Amanda (Sievers) Rehbein.
Frances was a licensed cosmetologist and operated Frances’ Beauty Shop in Fremont and North Bend prior to her marriage.
On Aug. 18, 1954, Frances married
Adolph G. Wesch at North Bend. They farmed west of North Bend until retiring in 1975, moving to Rogers in 1983. Adolph died Oct. 3, 1998.
Frances was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend where she taught Sunday School and cleaned. She was a former extension club member.
Survivors include son Ray (Jan) Wesch of Schuyler; daughter Jean (Terry) Sorensen of North Bend; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be April 10 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Carl Groh officiating. There will be no visitation.
The burial and a private grave side service will be held at Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Douglas D. Voss, Ames, Feb. 27, 2009, age 76
Douglas D. Voss of Ames died in Fremont on Feb. 27, 2009.
Doug was born October 20, 1932, near North Bend to Lester and Wilhelmina (Kirchmann) Voss and grew up in the North Bend and Ames area.
He was a lifetime farmer. He started by doing custom land leveling, welding and well drilling. He received many awards for his expertise in raising seed corn during the 1960’s and 70’s (topping 200 bushel per acre). He was also a skilled carpenter and a mechanic.
On June 20, 1959, he was married
to Patricia Heald.
Survivors include his wife – Pat, daughters Lori of Ashton, Iowa, Linda of Linwood, Lisa of North Bend; sons Larry of Ames, Lee (Holly) of Dike, Iowa; six grandchildren; brother Don (Dixie) Voss of North Bend; sister Darlene (Jim) Dvorak of North Bend.
There was no viewing. The family and friends gathered at the Ludvigsen Mortuary for an informal time of remembrance on March 3. Obit dated March 4, 2009
Louise (Marvin) Burnham, Fremont, Feb. 26, 2009, age 92
Louise Burnham, formerly of North Bend, died Feb. 26, 2009, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Louise was born Feb. 19, 1917, to Charles and Della (Hendrex) Marvin in Boone, Colo. The family moved to Kansas in 1928. Louise graduated from McCracken High School in 1936 and Ft. Hays State College, Hays, Kan., in 1940. She moved to Lincoln in 1941 working for the Farm Security Administration, Civil Aeronautics Administration and VA Hospital until moving to Beatrice in 1946, Columbus in 1950, Grand Island in 1951 and North Bend in 1967. She worked at the Dodge County Social Services until retiring in 1983. She moved to Fremont in 2000.
Louise married
H. Joseph Burnham on Jan. 27, 1946, at Lincoln. He died Nov. 16, 2002.
Louise was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont; United Methodist Women, VFW Post 8223 Auxiliary, Goldenrod Garden Club, the art club, Ruth Chapter 119, Order of Eastern Star, a former member of the First United Methodist Church, all in North Bend.
She is survived by sons Larry (Virginia) Burnham of Ladson, S.C., Lowell Burnham of Freeport, Ill.; daughter Dell Louise Burnham of Laramie, Wyo.; sister Helen (Howard) Yost of LaCross, Kan., sister-in-law Laurene Marvin also of LaCross.
The funeral was March 2 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Rev. Ron Croom of Fremont’s First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at Highland cemetery in Adams.

Barbara (Bitterman) Bieber, Schuyler, Feb 16, 2009, age 69
Barbara E. Bieber died Feb. 16, 2009 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln. Funeral services were Feb. 23 at the First Presbyterian Church in
Schuyler with Rev. Laura Hollister officiating. Burial was at the Schuyler Cemetery.

Barbara was born April 25, 1939, in Sutton to Edmund and Sara (Rauscher) Bitterman. She graduated from Sutton High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Doane College, a Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and an Early Childhood Endorsement from Midland Lutheran College.
On March 24, 1973, she married
Donn K. Bieber in Vail, Colorado. They made their home in Schuyler. Barbara was a teacher for Lincoln Public Schools, a substitute teacher at Schuyler Elementary Schools and operated The Pre-School in Schuyler for many years.
She was a member of the church, Elder of the Session and later Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler, Order of the Eastern Star, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of the Hispanic/Latino Commission of the Homestead Presbytery.
She is survived by her husband Donn of Schuyler; daughter, Erika (Dan) Schafer of Lincoln; two
grandsons; brother, Ronald (Karen) Bitterman of Hills City, S.D.; aunts Frieda Dobler of Lincoln, Sophia (Lawrence) Trautman of Sutton. Obit dated Feb. 25, 2009
