Kristine (Navrkal) Vyhlidal, North Bend, Feb. 14, 2009, age 97
Kristie A. Vyhlidal formerly of North Bend, died Feb. 14, 2009, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Kristie was born July 24, 1911, to James and Mary (Cerny) Navrkal of rural Linwood. She grew up with 12 siblings on a farm near Linwood, attending District 54 and St. John Catholic School in Prague.
On April 24, 1934, Kristie married
John F. Vyhlidal at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill. He died Nov. 17, 2002. They farmed near Morse Bluff before moving to a farm west of North Bend in 1954. Kristie worked for the former Roy’s Produce in North Bend for several years.
Kristie was a member of Cedar Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society; Catholic Workman Branch (now First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association).
Survivors include sons Stanly (Arlene) Vyhlidal of Fremont, John (JaeLynn) Vyhlidal of Columbus; sister Rose Pospisil of Fremont; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grand children and one great-great-grandson.
The funeral will be Feb. 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Kane officiating. There will be a rosary at 7 pm on Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. There will be visitation Wednesday from 2:30 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. all at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Rudy G. Fittje, Fremont, Feb. 12, 2009, age 94
Rudolph G. “Rudy” Fittje died Feb. 12, 2009, at Nye Pointe in Fremont. He was born Nov. 27, 1914, to Gerhard and Anna (Deyken) Fittje of rural Humphrey.
Rudy grew up near Tarnov and farmed near Humphrey for seven years. In 1945 he moved to Omaha where he worked for John Deere Co., did construction work, worked at a furnace company and Gate City Steel for 26 years as a welder and fitter. He moved to Columbus in 1980 where he did furniture repair work for Greiners Furniture Store. He moved to North Bend and in 2008 to Fremont.
In 1935 Rudy married
Irene E. Gehring at Platte Center. She died Jan. 15, 1988. Rudy was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend, and was a member of the Mulligan Stew Band.
Rudy is survived by his son Ron (Patsy) Fittje of North Bend; daughter Linda (Rich) Majerus of Hemmit, Calif; sister Lorraine Gehring of Columbus; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Feb. 17 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Carl Groh officiating. Burial was at Grand Prairie cemetery at Plat Center.

Michael J. Hamata, Wainae, Hawaii, Feb. 11, 2009, age 51
Michael John Hamata died in his sleep on Feb. 11, 2009, at this home in Waianae, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu.
He was born to North Bend natives Leonard and Elaine (Bailey) on Jan. 23, 1958, while they they were living in Glendale, Calif.
The family moved back to North Bend in 1970. Mike graduated from North Bend Central High School in 1976. He graduated from mechanics school and had a car repair shop and farmed for many years before moving back to the Los Angles, Calif. area.
Mike moved to Hawaii in Nov. 2007. He was a member of the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Oahu and served as a Eucharist minister at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in San Dimas, Calif.
He is survived by sisters Nancy (Richard) Key of La Canada, Califl, Kathy Van De Water of San Marino,Calif.; brothers Peter (Betty) Hamata, Steven, both of North Bend; ten nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial mass Saturday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. His ashes will be buried in the family plot at North Bend's Woodland Cemetery. Obit dated March 18, 2009
Angel Vrana, Lincoln, Feb. 3, 2009, newborn
Angel Grace Vrana was born into heaven Feb. 3, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents Brian and Sandi Vrana and sister Faith all of Lincoln; grandparents including George and Sharon Vrana of Linwood, aunts, uncles, cousins.
A family graveside service was held Feb. 6 at Cedar Hill Catholic Cemetery.

Bill Macholan, Linwood, Jan. 27, 2009, age 56
William Macholan died Jan. 27, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services were Jan. 31 at Divine Mercy - St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler. Burial was at Linwood Hill cemetery with military honors by Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the VFW and McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion.
Bill was born Aug. 19, 1951, in Columbus to Wilfred and Marilyn (Kriz) Macholan. He attended school in Linwood and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1970, where he was a medalist in wrestling. In June after graduation he joined the United States Navy. On Nov. 29, 1980, he married
Emmy Lu Kohler at St. Augustine
Catholic Church. He lived near Linwood and was a farmer and raised cattle.
Bill was a member of the Schuyler American Legion, St. Augustine Catholic Church, Linwood Volunteer Fire Department and was co-founder of the Linwood Hunting Club.
Bill is survived by daughters Megan Macholan of Linwood and Erin Macholan of Lincoln; ex-wife Emmy Lu Macholan of Schuyler; mother Marilyn Macholan of Linwood, sisters Sandra Brandl and Dawn Spence, both of Linwood.

Marie (Eckstein) Pawling, Fremont, Jan. 28, 2009, age 89
Marie A. Pawling died Jan. 28, 2009, at Nye Legacy in Fremont. She was born March 16, 1919, to Vaclav and Otilia (Veverka) Eckstein of Morse Bluff.
Marie was a 1937 graduate of North Bend High School. She moved to Fremont after graduation and worked at the Nebraska Ordinance Plant in Mead. She was employed at Campbell’s Soup Co. and cleaned homes for area families for 30 years.
On Jan. 22, 1948, Marie married
Maynard Pawling in Fremont. He died Dec. 16, 1994.
Marie was a member of Trinity Luthern Church in Fremont, the Trinity Lutheran Women and Eunice Circle; American Legion Post 20 Auxiliary of Fremont; Western Fraternal Life Assoc. (formerly ZBCJ Lodge).
Surviving are daughter Sharon (Reed) Mattson of Fremont; sons Robert (Colleen) Pawling of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brian (Gail) Pawling of Lincoln, Allen (Jakie) Pawling of Cherry Hill, N.J.; brother Anton (Joan) Eckstein of Linwood; ten grandchildren.
The funeral was Feb. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Meyer officiating. Burial was at the Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Adella (Vacha) Dubsky, Schuyler, Jan. 21, 2009, age 96
Adella Dubsky of Schuyler, died Jan. 21, 2009, at Alegent Health Memorial Hospital in Schuyler. Funeral services were held on Jan. 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with burial in Schuyler Cemetery. Father Gerald Leise officiated, music was provided by Paul Duin, Teri Chromy was lector, and Annie Akehurst read a special poem. Pallbearers were grandsons Bill Chromy, Scott Dubsky, Tony Vanek, Matt F. Wachal, Dan Wachal, Kelly Misek, Paul Duin, and Ben Velinsky.
Adella was born July 15, 1912, at Howells to Frank and Anna Vacha. She married
Frank Dubsky on April 5, 1932. He preceded her in death, on Oct. 19, 1992.
Adella worked at various jobs for many years, including as a waitress for Johnnies Steakhouse.
She is survived by daughter Arlene (Matt) Wachal of Schuyler; son Dennis (Donna) Dubsky of Columbus; eight grandchildren, including Teri (Bill) Chromy, Linwood, and Scott (Denise) Dubsky, of Schuyler; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. Obit dated Feb. 4, 2009
Orvil Petersen, North Bend, Dec. 31, age 80
Orvil I. Petersen passed away December 31 at his home in North Bend.
Orvil was born February 17, 1930, to George and Mary (Brousek) Petersen. He grew up in rural North Bend and was a 1947 graduate of North Bend High School. Orvil served in the Army National Guard from 1951 until 1957, and farmed northwest of North Bend until retiring in 1992. He moved into North Bend in 1978.
He married
Rose (Lane) Odermatt on Aug.19, 1978. She died in 2000. Orvil married
his second wife, Ella (Nunn) Ford Watt on Feb. 10, 2004, in Fremont. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Orvil is survived by sons Lonnie (Linda)Ford of Pender, Lawrence (Maggie) Ford and Leander Ford, all of North Bend; daughter Linda (James) Divis of Colon, Nebr.; sisters Delores Cech of Schuyler and Dorothy Parr of Dodge; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose; brother Leo Peterson; and grandson Josh Ford, killed in Iraq.
Funeral services are Wed., Jan. 5, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The United States Flag will be folded and presented by members of the V.F.W. and AmVets of North Bend and the American Legion of Morse Bluff, with burial at Cedar Hill cemetery near Morse Bluff.
Memorials are suggested for the North Bend Rescue Squad, St. Charles Catholic Church, or the Morse Bluff/North Bend Area Veterans Memorial Park, all at North Bend.
Arnie Gebers, Scribner, Dec. 31, age 80
Arnold “Arnie” J. Gebers died December 31.
Arnie was born June 5, 1936, to Ernest and Adina (Oestmann) Gebers on the family farm southwest of Auburn, Nebr. He attended Rural School District #27 and graduated from Auburn High School. Arnie owned and operated a Conoco station and later worked in the Insurance industry with Farm Bureau Insurance. He also worked for Investors of Nebraska.
For four years Arnie owned and operated a restaurant, Wheel ‘R Inn, in Auburn. In 1973, he and his family moved to Scribner, where he managed the Scribner Insurance Agency. He retired in 2008. Arnie married
Donnetta Scholl in June, 1996. She survives.
Arnie was active in many community organizations including Auburn Jaycees, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. In Scribner: City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Councilman for United Evangelical Lutheran Church, President of Elkhorn Valley Golf Course, Scribner Masonic Lodge, Tangier Shrine of Omaha, Fremont Shrine Club, Friendship Chapter N. 122 Order of Eastern Star, long-time member of the Scribner Volunteer Fire and Rescue and served as Civil Defense Director. He was also a member of the Hooper Investment Club, and was on the Board of Directors for Scribner Bank. Arnie was heavily involved with the Dodge County Fair, where he served as the treasurer for 28 years and served as Fair Manager for 27 of those years. He was the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Dodge Co. Parade and was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award at the 2010 Chamber Banquet.
Arnie is survived by his wife; son Layne (Judy) Gebers of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughter Shelly (Randy) Kaup of Gretna; step-daughters Dyann (Jeff) Bradbury of Lincoln and Lisa (Francis) Langhorst and Mary Scholl, all of North Bend.
Funeral services were January 3 at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Francis Hospice and Home Health Care in West Point or the Dodge County Fair Project.

Duane Harbottle, Rifle, Colo., Dec. 23, age 75
Duane J. “Rodeo” Harbottle of Rifle, Colo., formerly of Ames and Cedar Bluffs, passed away on Dec. 23.
Duane was born May 13, 1935. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; nine children: Rose (John) Woertz, Susie (Terry) Huscher, Gary (Lisa) Carroll, Carry Gerke, Kathi (Allan Dlouhy) Blanchard, Sara Sanchez, Bill Harbottle, Si Harbottle and Sam (Jeni) Harbottle; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Vicki and son Ben.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28 at the Garfield County Fairgrounds Event Center in Rifle, Colo.
