Loretta (Rabbass) Hanson, Cedar Bluffs, Dec. 23, age 86
Loretta E. Hanson of Cedar Bluffs, died Dec. 23 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Loretta was born November 9, 1924, on a farm south of Cedar Bluffs to Rudolf and Maria (Hoffman) Rabbass.
She received her elementary education at St. Matthew Parochial School, District 97, District 62 and District 60. After graduating from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1942, Loretta was employed at the Palace Ice Cream Parlor in Fremont, the Bank of Valley in Valley and the Commercial State Bank in Cedar Bluffs. She later worked at Puls Pharmacy in Fremont.
Loretta was united in marriage to Raymond H. Hanson on Oct. 2, 1945, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. They lived on a farm west of Cedar Bluffs all their married
life. He died Oct. 16, 1996.
Loretta was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She was baptized Nov. 23, 1924, and confirmed April 10, 1938. Loretta was a former Sunday school teacher, member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, church circle #2 and Evangelism director.
Loretta was a life member of the Saunders County Historical Society She was on the board of the Museum from 1983 to 2006, serving as secretary of the organization for 14 years, director of exhibits and job and volunteer coordinator for the annual museum barbecue.
Survivors include daughters RaJean (Dennis) Everman of Fremont, Renee (Bernard) Wilson of Omaha; son Howard (Barbara) Hanson of Cedar Bluffs; sister Ioma (Loyd) Sukstorf of Fremont; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Dec. 28 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Weber officiating. Burial was at Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church for the Baptism and Confirmation Fund and to the Saunders County Historical Society for further restoration of the Log Cabin.
Moser Memorial Chapel-Fremont was in charge of arrangements.

M. Joyce Dunn, Fremont, Dec. 2, age 88
M. Joyce Dunn of Fremont died Dec. 2, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Joyce was born February 19, 1922, to Oscar and Mamie (Neeley) Weiman. She grew up in Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School. Joyce married
Keith M. Dunn on June 18, 1941. They farmed near North Bend and then lived in Schuyler from 1974-1977, before moving to Fremont. Joyce was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Fremont.
Joyce is survived by sons Doug (Connie) Dunn, Richard “Dick” (fiancé, Paula Campbell) Dunn, all of Fremont; daughters Nancy (Jay) Marsh of Fremont and Carol (Bill) Capps of Jacksonville, Fla; sister Pat Ward of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 6 at Moser Memorial Chapel, Fremont with burial at Memorial Cemetery.

Marian (Foy) Kaup, Ft. Collins, Colo., Nov. 16, age 94
Marian Elizabeth Kaup died November 16 in Fort Collins, Colo.
Marian was born to John and Kate Foy on October 30, 1916, in Scribner. She attended the Webster Country School and later graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She worked with her family on the Londonderry Farm and later in Omaha during World War II as a blueprint clerk.
Marian married
Hilbert J. “Hibb” Kaup on February 21, 1944, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Snyder. Marian and Hibb lived near Scribner until they purchased a farm north of Holyoke, Colo. and moved there in 1955. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a long time member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Marian was also active in the Willing Helpers Club, serving as an officer several times. Marian moved into Holyoke from the farm in 1992.
Marian is survived by sons Captain Doug (Debra) Kaup of Astoria, Ore. and District Judge Dan (Cheryl) Kaup of Fort Collins, Colo.; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and sisters: Hugh Foy, Bill Foy, Charlotte Grady, formerly of Platte Center, Nebr.; Leonard Foy, Mabel Chapman, formerly of North Bend; Eileen Melena, formerly of Howells and Charles Foy, formerly of Scribner and North Bend.
Funeral services were Nov. 22 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke. with interment following in the Holyoke Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church/Alter and Rosary Society.

John A. Kment, Schuyler, Nov. 9, age 100
John A. Kment of Schuyler died Nov. 9, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler where he had been a resident for the last two years. Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel with the Rev. Mike Haney officating. Burial was at the Schuyler Cemetery.
John was born May 8, 1910, in Colfax County to John and Anna (Sloup) Kment. He attended rural school at Districts #11 and #8. He was a long time farmer in Colfax County.
On Sept. 17, 1935, he married
Agnes Hozak at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. She died March 16, 1993. Their son John D. Kment, died March 17, 2003.
John is survived by one grandson, Daren Kment of Grand Island, and sister Sylvia Slavik of North Bend.

Laura (Serr) Kort, Fremont, Nov. 6, age 91
Laura Kort of Fremont, formerly of North Bend, passed away Nov. 6 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.
Laura was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Scotland, S.D. to Phillip and Ann (Neth) Serr. She grew up in Scotland and moved to Omaha in 1937 where she attended business school and worked for IBM. Laura married
Edgar M. Kort on Dec. 4, 1948.
In 1955, Laura moved to North Bend, where she worked with her husband at Kort Amusement Company as a bookkeeper and office manager for 43 years. She retired in 1993, and moved to Fremont in 2006. Laura was a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend.
Laura is survived by a son, Thomas (Diane) Kort of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters Patricia Kort of Omaha and Cheryl (Curt) Peterson of Fremont; a sister, Tillie Voy of York; and 5 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thur., Nov. 11, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Wed., Nov. 10, from 2-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at Memorial cemetery in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the University of Nebr. Medical Center.

Michael J. Mohr, Norfolk, Nov. 5, age 64
Michael J. Mohr of Norfolk, formerly of Scribner, died Nov. 5 at the Nebr. Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Michael was born Sept. 24, 1946, to Gilbert and Geraldine (Dunker) Mohr. He grew up in the Scribner area attending rural schools. Michael graduated from Scribner High in 1964, and from Nebraska Wesleyan College in Lincoln in 1968. Michael served in the U.S. Navy as a medic from 1969 to 1973. Following his military service, he farmed in the Scribner area. Michael is survived by two sisters: Peggy Mohr of Elk Grove Village, Ill. and Janet Griffiths of Wheaton, Ill.
Funeral service with military honors was held Nov. 8 at the Scribner Cemetery.

Donn C. Settles, North Bend, Oct. 19, age 85
Donn C. Settles of North Bend passed away Oct. 19 at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Donn was born Dec. 22, 1924, in rural Cedar Bluffs. He grew up in the area and farmed prior to entering the service. Donn served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his discharge, Donn returned to the Cedar Bluffs area and married
Helen Kavan on Aug. 7, 1946.
Donn farmed and raised livestock north of Colon until moving to a farm south of Scribner in 1952. Donn and Helen moved to North Bend in Oct. 2008.
Donn was a life member of the North Bend VFW and the Morse Bluff American Legion, and was a 4-H Leader for over 30 years. He also served several terms on the Dodge County District 12 School Board, and was a long-time member of the Knights of Ak-sar-ben.
Donn is survived by his wife, sons Jerome (Joan) Settles of Hoskins, Alan (Cindy) Settles of Scribner, and Ronn (Diane) Settles of Davey; daughter Janet (Ron) Schindler of North Bend; sister Ann (Rev. Fred) Huscher of Romoland, Calif; sister-in-law Pearl Settles of North Bend; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, with burial at Fleming cemetery near Morse Bluff. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post of Morse Bluff and the V.F.W. and AmVets Posts of North Bend.

Hazel (Newsom) Hanson, Marysville, Kan. Oct. 16, age 84
Hazel M. Hanson of Marysville, Kan. died Oct. 16.
Hazel was born Dec. 6, 1925, in North Bend to Henry and Ida Newsom. She attended the North Bend schools and graduated from high school in 1943.
While in high school Hazel trained on the linotype machine at the North Bend Eagle office. The linotype training later enabled her to obtain employment with several newspaper publishers, including the Fremont Tribune.
Hazel married
Paul Hanson of rural Marysville at the Christian Church in North Bend on Sept. 19, 1954. Paul worked as a farmer, mechanic and was an employee of the Kansas Highway Dept. until his death in 1993. Hazel moved back to North Bend in 1997 to assist her brother Jack, but returned to Marysville after Jack passed away in 2003.
Hazel is survived by her brother Keith Newsom of Greenville, NC.; brother-in-law, Roy (Jeanette) Hanson of Marysville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Marie Tanner of Houston, Texas.
Funeral services were held Oct. 19 at the First Christian Church in Marysville, with burial at the Marysville City Cemetery.

Marjorie “Marj” A. Bailey passed away Oct. 11.
Marjorie was born Nov. 15, 1941, in Orange County, Calif. to Martin and Clara (Ernst) Schulz. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1959. On Feb. 14, 1970, Marj married
Dennis E. Bailey at Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler.
Marj is survived daughter Michelle (Darrell) Parks of Prairie Village, Kan.; son, Todd (Shari) Bailey of Schulyer; sister, Carolyn (Gordon) Bailey of Surprise, Ariz.; two granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler, with burial at Schuyler Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for Trinity Church and Odyssey Hospice.
