Amelia Wellensiek, Cook, Sept. 2, age 89
Amelia Wellensiek of Cook, died at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh, on Sept. 2.
Amelia was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Pickrell, Neb., to Friedrick Herman and Antje (Anna) Jurgens Kelle.
On Aug. 25, 1945, Amelia was married
to Raymond Wellensiek at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling.
Amelia is survived by sons Don (Nancy) Wellensiek, of Kenesaw, and Dean (Jody) Wellensiek, of Cook; daughters Carol (Lon) Bohling of North Bend, Joan (Wayne Witt) Wellensiek of Gretna; eight grandchildren and eight great -grandchildren; sister Clara Zimmerman of Beatrice, sister-in-law Leona Kelle of Sterling.
Amelia worked for Johnson County Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide for more that 20 years and taught School in Johnson & Otoe Counties.
Funeral services were Sept. 7 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, (Osage) in Cook.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, (Osage), Church, or the cemetery, or Family Choice for Cook Community.

David P. Reznicek, North Bend, Aug. 27, age 70
David P. Reznicek of North Bend died Aug. 27, 2010, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
David was born Dec. 1, 1939, to Adoph F. and Emma A. (Semerad) Reznicek in Dodge. He lived and farmed his entire life in Union Township of rural North Bend. He was a 1957 graduate of North Bend High School. David owned and operated P&R Sales since 1969.
On Dec. 27, 1958, David married
Patricia O’Connor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. She survives.
David was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and a life member of Nebrasaka State Snowmobile Association.
Survivors include sons Randy (Julie) Reznicek, Tim (Amy) Reznicek all of North Bend; daughter Jacci Reznicek of Lincoln; sons Marty (Charlene) Reznicek of North Bend; Bill Reznicek of Lincoln; brothers Norbert (Roby) Reznicek of Clarkson, Kenneth (Phyllis) Reznicek of Fountain, Colo.; sister Loretta (Dwayne) Muff of Omaha; brother-in-law Vern Mihulka of Norfolk; sister-in-law JoAnn O’Connor of Valley; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The funeral was Aug. 30 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Internment was at St. Patrick’s cemetery at Clyde.
The family suggest memorials for the North Bend Library Fund or St. Charles Catholic Church.

Joan (Vopalensky) Volf, Phillips, Aug 17, age 66
Joan R. Volf of Phillips died Aug. 17 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joan was born May 17, 1944, to Irwin and Ruth (Mehaffey) Vopalensky of North Bend. Joan grew up and received her education in Morse Bluff and was a graduate of North Bend High School. She went on to attend Grand Island School of Business.
On Aug. 31, 1963, Joan married
Maylon Allan “Catfish” Volf in North Bend. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Phillips.
Joan was employed at Gillette’s Dairy and more recently with Roberts Dairy. The couple owned and operated Catfish’s Bar and Restaurant in Phillips. Joan was a volunteer and board member with the Nebraska Equine Assisted Therapy Program located in Phillips.
Survivors include her husband, Maylon ‘Catfish’ Volf; son Mark (Sarah) Volf of Basalt, Colo.; daughter Pamela (Kelly) Steckelberg of Lincoln; brother John (JoAnn) Vopalensky of Placentia, Calif.; two sisters Diane (John) Murphy of Firth, Marcia (Gary) Miller of Surprise, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Samuel Volf and Ashton and Trenton Steckelberg.
Funeral Service was Aug. 24 at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel with Dan Naranjo officiating. Cremation has taken place. Her family is honoring her wish to have her ashes scattered at one of her favorite places.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established Joan’s name.

Donna (Scott) Thomsen, North Bend, Aug. 5, age 87
Donna J. Thomsen died Aug. 5 at Bergan Mercy Hospital.
Donna was born Dec. 24, 1922, to Charles and Cora (Lehmer) Scott of North Bend. She grew up in North Bend and was a 1940 graduate of North Bend High School.
On March 22, 1941, Donna Married Jens H. “Sonny” Thomsen in Fremont. He died March 19, 1979.
Donna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Bend where she taught Sunday school and played the piano and organ. She bowled until she was 80 years old. Donna received a 50-year pin for her membership with Order of Eastern Star.
Donna is survived by sons Jack (Debbie) Thomsen of Papillion, Gary Thomsen of Stockton, Calif; daughter Linda Grohs of Omaha; sister Doris Allan of Laguna Nigel, Calif.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The OES services was held Aug. 8 with the Celebration of Life held Aug. 9 at the First United Methodist Church with lay minister Dorothy Smith officiating. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for the First United Methodist Church of North Bend.
Patricia (Black) Dobrusky, North Bend, July 27, age 72
Patricia A. “Pat” Dobrusky, 72, of North Bend died July 27 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.
Pat was born Feb. 3, 1938, in Schuyler to Milo and Ruth (Michaels) Black. She graduated from Schuyler High School and Platte College School of Nursing. She lived in Rogers prior to her marriage to Leonard E. Dobrusky on Aug. 22, 1959, in North Bend. She taught at rural schools in Colfax County. She moved to North Bend and was a nurse at Birchwood Manor for 20 years. She also was a hospice volunteer for four years for the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice.
Pat was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society and the Material Girls Quilting Club, all in North Bend.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael Dobrusky of North Bend; two daughters Susan (Scott) Haynes of Lincoln, and Janice (Stephen) Bellinghiere of Omaha; a sister, Rosa Smith of Corvallis, Ore.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass was July 30 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Donald Cleary officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill cemetery near Morse Bluff.
A memorial has been established to the North Bend Library Building Fund.
Timothy S. Rise, Omaha, July 25, age 34
Timothy S. Rise of Omaha, formerly of Fremont, died July 25 at Creighton Medical Center.
Tim was born in Omaha on Aug. 11, 1975, to Jaki (Dieckmann) Heinrich and Edward Rise. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1994, then attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney for one year. At the time of his death he was working as a chef in Omaha.
On July 18, 2009, Tim married
Maureen McNeill-Dorsey. She survives.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Survivors include, wife, son Brennan Rise of Overland Park, Kan.; daughter Charoltte Rise of Omaha; mother Jaki (and step-father Dennis) Heinrich of Fremont; father Edward Rise (fiancee, Mary Drees) of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandfather Junior Dieckmann of Fremont; sisters Deann (Troy) Berry of Fremont and Becky (Tom) Bischof of Omaha.
The funeral service was July 30 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Michael Thomas officiated the service. Burial service was at Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested for Tim’s children’s education fund.

Lillian (Hines) Bauer, North Bend, July 15, age 84
Lillian A. Bauer of North Bend, formerly of Morse Bluff, died Thursday, July 15 at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Lillian was born September 27, 1925, in Morse Bluff to John and Marie (Vavak) Hines. She graduated from North Bend High School and taught at rural schools for two years.
On February 7, 1945, she married
Joseph D. Bauer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cedar Hill. They farmed southwest of Morse Bluff and moved to North Bend in 1982.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the church circle in North Bend and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill. She was also a member of a Dodge County extension club.
Survivors include sons: Ron (Marsha) Bauer of Valentine, Dan (Kathy) Bauer of Morse Bluff, Dave Bauer of Lincoln, Randy (Lorrie) Bauer of Chadron, and Jeff (Louise) Bauer of Morse Bluff; daughters JoAnne (Dave) Serel of Phoenix, Rachelle (Randy) Eriksen of Omaha; a brother John (Adeline) Hines of Morse Bluff; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was July 20, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The Rev. Donald Cleary officiated the service. Internment was at Cedar Hill cemetery near Morse Bluff. Memorials may be made to Catholic Social Services.
Susan (Jirkovsky) Preister, Omaha, July 15, age 58
Susan Preister died Thursday, July 15 at her home in Omaha.
Sue was born Feb. 24, 1952 to Charles and Mae Rita (Moser) Jirkovsky in Omaha. She graduated from Mercy High School in Omaha then studied at Metro Tech Community College, earning an associate degree as a surgical tech.
She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Don Fenster for eight years, then was a medical transcriptionist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for 12 years. For the past 18 years she was a surgical tech at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Sue was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Omaha and did volunteer work at Millard Manor.
She is survived by her husband Ron, son Josh Preister of Bellevue, daughter Ellie (Paul) Kelehan of Omaha; and three brothers: Jim Jirkovsky of Omaha, Jerry Jirkovsky of Los Angeles, and Thomas Jirkovsky of California. She was preceeded in death by her parents.
The funeral Mass was Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalene with the Rev. James Schwertley officating and Moser Memorial Chapel of Fremont in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Calvary cemetery in Omaha.
Memorials are suggested for the American Cancer Society or Methodist Hospice.
Clarence L. Thege, North Bend, July 14, age 80
Clarence L. Thege of North Bend died Wednesday, July 14, at Birchwood Manor in North Bend.
He was born February 19, 1930, on a farm near Linwood. He attended grade school at District 78, Prague High School and was a 1948 graduate of Linwood High School. He farmed with his father until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War from June 28, 1951, to March 19, 1953, on the front line at the 38th parallel most of his tour of duty. He was a squad leader in the Second Combat Engineers Second Division and held the rank of sergeant first class. He served five more years in the Army Reserves. Clarence returned to Linwood where he farmed. In his spare time, he was a catcher for the Linwood Aggies fast pitch softball team from 1953 to 1961.
On February 15, 1958, Clarence married
Marlene Fencl at Prague Presbyterian Church. The couple lived near Linwood and farmed near Linwood and Morse Bluff. They also raised chickens, cattle and swine. Clarence also worked at the Commodore Mobile Home Manufacturing Plant. In 1985, they moved to North Bend, where Clarence worked at the Blevins Popcorn Plant and later worked at Birchwood Manor as a maintenance man. He retired in 2002 and had been residing at Birchwood Manor since 2008.
Clarence was a member of Prague Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 of North Bend. He was an honorary member of the Linwood Volunteer Fire Department and past director of the former Linwood Farmers Union Co-op. He was a member of the building site committee for the new North Bend High School District 95 in 1970. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling and his daily visits to the “wind tunnel.”
Survivors include his wife Marlene; son Robert Thege of North Bend; daughters Cheryl Thege (and special friend, Dave Sliva) of Bellwood, Pam (John) Eggleston of Schuyler, daughter-in-law Lorie Thege of North Bend, brothers George (Mary) Thege of Norfolk, Richard Thege of Linwood, Raynold (Pauline) Thege of David City, and Don (Alyce) Thege of Schuyler; 10 grandchildren,and a great-grandchild.
The funeral was Saturday, July 17 at Prague Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lonnie Eschliman officiating. Internment was in Prague Presbyterian cemetery with military graveside services conducted by members of American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, VFW Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend.
Memorials may be given to the church or to the donor’s choice.
