Taylor Emanuel
Taylor Michael Emanuel, a special needs son of Michael and Kim Emanuel of Hartington, died on Dec. 25 at his residence due to complications from pneumonia.
Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 28 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. The Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiated. Burial
was at St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington. Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements.
Taylor was born in Lincoln on April 20, 1994.
At the age of three Taylor started attending school at Tower in Wayne. He was able to attend five days a week throughout the year up until his last illness.
Taylor is survived by his parents, Michael and Kim Emanuel; a sister Amber and brother Brodrick at home; maternal grandparents Allen and Carol Lammers of Hartington; paternal grandparents Joseph and Bonnie Emanuel of Hartington; Aunts and uncles Scott Lammers of Ashland; Chris and Carmen Goeden of Lincoln; Cory and Shawna Lammers of Lincoln; Russ and Dawn Lammers of Wilmar, Minn.; Joel Emanuel and Christy Orwig of Aberdeen, S.D.; John and Jana Fischer of Lincoln; nine cousins, Jack Emma and Hazel Goeden; Luke, David and Mathew Lammers; and Persephone, Selene and Willow Fischer.
Taylor was preceded in death by his sibling Aaron; great grandparents Hugo and Hildegarde Lammers; John Jr. and Rose Thoene; Eugene and Elsie Emanuel amd H.M. (Butch) Haberer.

John Ridge
John H. Ridge passed away Dec. 14, 2013, in Loveland, Colo.
John was born on July 22, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y., to James Arthur and Louise Ridge. He was stationed in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam War era. John earned his bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University.
John married
Pat Stoupa on March 6, 1971, in Loveland. They lived in the District 92 area from 1974 through 1986 while he operated a concrete finishing company in North Bend. He managed L&L Lumber in North Bend before moving to Fort Collins and opening the North Side Lumber Products. He retired at the end of 2010.
John is survived by his wife, daughter Brenda (Brian) McKenna of Centennial, Colo., and, Michael (Amy) Ridge of West Des Moines, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
The funeral was Dec. 28. at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish in Fort Collins.

Francis Buresh
Francis R. Buresh of North Bend, died Dec. 6 at Birchwood Manor in North Bend. Francis was born Jan. 9, 1941, to Joseph J. and Mary A. (Hladky) Buresh on the family farm northeast of North Bend. He graduated from North Bend High School in 1959. Francis served in the National Guard.
On June 24, 1999, Francis married
Marjorie Hrebec in Fremont. He farmed in the North Bend area his entire life and retired in 2008. He also did various jobs for Lonnie Spies Mobile Homes in Schuyler.
Francis was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3736 of North Bend, and Dwight American Legion Post 110.
Francis is survived by his wife Marjorie; step-son Robert (Cindy) Kelly of Kearney; step-daughter Sherry J. Kelly of Sumner; sister Mary Ann Buresh of North Bend; sister-in-laws Magdalene Buresh of Columbus and Agnes Buresh of North Bend; six step-grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was Dec. 9 at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Cleary officiated. Military services were conducted by V.F.W Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff. Burial was at the Kearney Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

Sylvia Slavik
Sylvia K. Slavik, of North Bend died Nov. 30 at her home. Sylvia was born July 20, 1912, south of Howells to John and Anna (Sloup) Kment. She grew up on a farm north of Richland and attended School District 8 in Colfax County.
Sylvia married
Henry F. Slavik on Feb. 24, 1936, in Schuyler. The couple farmed in the Purple Cane Community in Dodge County. They moved into North Bend in 1975. Henry died Dec. 26, 1998.
Sylvia was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. She was a former member of the Purple Cane Extension Club, an auxiliary member of the North Bend Fire Department and an extension club in North Bend.
She is survived by son Edwin Slavik of McAllen, Texas.
A funeral service was held Dec. 7 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Calvin L’Heureux officiating. Burial was at the Schuyler cemetery in Schuyler.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, North Bend Volunteer Fire Department or to the Morse Bluff/North Bend Area Veterans Memorial Park.

Donna Murphy
Donna Marie Murphy of Fremont died November 6 at her home. Donna was born July 18, 1944, in Grand Island, to Nicholas and Norma (Wombacher) Murphy.
She graduated from North Bend High School in 1963. She completed beauty college and attended Metro Community College in Fremont. Donna spent over 20 years as an office manager for Oris Glass Thoroughbred Farms and worked several years part time at the Dollar Tree in Fremont. Donna lived in North Bend and Fremont for most of her life.
She was a former member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Donna was the show secretary for the Nebraska Pinto Horse Association and a long-time member, a member of the Nebraska Paint Horse Association and the Fremont Horse Association. Donna received her livestock and equine appraiser certificate.
Donna is survived by her daughter Darcy (Scott) Klug of Fremont; son, Dana (Brooke) Iverson, of Kearney; brothers, Robert (Connie) Murphy of North Bend, Micheal (Lana) Murphy, of Bennington, Patrick (Sue) Murphy of Florida, Dennis (Karen) Murphy of Fremont, and Joseph (Wendy) Murphy of North Bend; sisters, Mary Jo (Vern) Longie, of Montana, Kathy (Dale) Nattress of Fremont, Colleen (Junior) Bettim of Fremont, Sherry Murphy of Georgia, and Christine (Mike) Virka of Morse Bluff; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held November 11 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Chaplain James Jost officiating. Burial was at Woodland cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials may be given to Gentiva Hospice in appreciation for the tremendous care that they provided to Donna.

Elizabeth Wadzinski
Elizabeth Wadzinski of Fremont died November 4 at her home. She was born October 24, 1930, in Stevens Point, Wis. to Alex and Gertrude (Richter)Omernik.
She attended schools in Wisconsin, graduating from high school and attended college for 2 years.
Elizabeth married
Donald Wadzinski on May 12, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, Wis. She was a bookkeeper for Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Stevens Point. She later lived in North Dakota prior to moving to Dodge. She moved to Fremont in March of 2000. Donald passed away in October of 2005.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., November 7, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Father David Belt will officiate. Visitation is Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the St. Wenceslaus cemetery in Dodge at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
She is survived by sons Robert (Mary) Wadzinski of Newton, Iowa; Paul Wadzinski, Fremont; Donald (RaNell) Wadzinski of Boone, Iowa; John (Patricia) Wadzinski of Lakeland, Minn.; David (Cindy) Wadzinski, Omaha; daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Soukup, Morse Bluff; Bonnie Jisa of David City; brother, James (Donna) Omernik of LaCrosse, Wis.; sister, Kathleen (Richard) Northrop of Broomfield, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be determined.

Eileen Mapel
Eileen A. Mapel of Cozad, formerly of the Fremont area, passed away at her home on November 2 in Cozad. Eileen was born March 11, 1942, in Dodge to John and Mamie (Tiedemann) Dvorak. She grew up on the family farm south of Dodge. She was a graduate of North Bend High School. Eileen spent the majority of her life in the Dodge area. She traveled to Anchorage, Alaska, for a short time and then moved back to the North Bend area. Later she settled in Cozad. She is a past member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont.
She is survived by sons John (Joan) Mapel of Forsyth, Mont., Raymond (Rose) Mapel of Cozad, Maynard (Tana) Mapel of Clarkson; sister, Elaine (Ron) Sims of Fullerton; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service were held at Nov. 6 at Memorial cemetery in Fremont with the Rev. Tom Shaw officiating. Memorials may be given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer.

Victor Svitak
Victor A. Svitak of Clarkson died Oct. 30 at the Clarkson Golden Living Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held November 4 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson with the Rev. Rod Kneifl and the Rev. Tim Forgét celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the Clarkson Catholic cemetery with military honors by the Cornhusker Post 6419 Honor Guard of the VFW.
Victor A. Svitak was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Stanton County north of Howells to Adolph and Anna (Vrba) Svitak. He attended District 32 grade school north of Howells. On Aug. 22, 1941, Victor entered the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 25, 1944.
On Nov. 20, 1956, Victor was united in marriage to LaVae Kavan at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.
Victor farmed north of Clarkson until 1983 when he and LaVae moved into Clarkson. He was a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Clarkson American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Clarkson Catholic cemetery Board.
Victor is survived by nephews Frank (Sharon) Bohaboj of Dodge, Joseph (Judy) Bohaboj of Clarkson, Victor Novak of Yankton, S.D.; nieces Helen Castoral of Rogers, Ark., Martha Schmidt of Lincoln.

James Buckner
James Thomas Buckner passed away October 21 of cancer at his son’s home in Seattle, Wash. James was born March 15, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Carvello and Helen Buckner. He married
Eugenia Ruth Reagan on August 30, 1958.
Jim served in the US Army Signal Corps. He was a carpenter by trade, with significant training as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sweeny, Texas, and later Grace Lutheran Church in Everett, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eugenia, two infant children, and brother Richard of Ohio.
Survivors include his daughter Linda (Mike) Hobbs of Bacliff, Texas; son Mark (Michaela [Feala, formerly of North Bend]) Buckner of Shoreline, Wash.; sisters Judy and Joyce; and brother, Fred, all of Ohio.
A graveside service will be performed by Pastor Ed Boineau at Forest Lawn cemetery in Houston, Texas, on October 30.
