Dennis Rosenbaum

Denny Rosenbaum was born in Omaha and was raised by his grandparents, Dan and Jenny Mundy, in North Bend. He graduated from North Bend High School in 1953. Denny served two years with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He married
Genelle (Pollard) Rosenbaum. Married for fifty-four years, the couple had two daughters, Tami Jackson and Janette Rosenbaum, and four grandchildren: triplets Brent, Claire and Sarah Jackson, and D. J. Smith.
Denny and his family enjoyed snow skiing, traveling, camping, and being at the Phoenix house in the winter. Denny so disliked the cold weather that he would take the family to a warm destination to spend every Christmas holiday. Denny loved being with his grandkids, whether teaching Brent, Sarah and Claire to drive at the same time or attending D. J.’s lacrosse games.
Denny started Rosenbaum Electric 30 years ago, and for 40 years he was a member of Local 22 union. He also served as President of NECA, and also served on the apprentice board.
At the age of 55, Denny achieved another milestone when he earned his private pilot’s license. He was so proud that he could recognize all the small towns in western Nebraska by each town’s water tower.
Denny was a patron member of Henry Doorly Zoo, Joslyn Art Museum and the Durham Museum. A lifetime member of the Methodist Hospital Volunteers in Partnership and VFW Post 247, he was also a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Omaha.
Denny is survived by his wife, Genelle Rosenbaum; daughters, Janette Rosenbaum, Tami Jackson (Kevin); triplet grandchildren: Brent, Sarah and Claire Jackson; grandson, D. J. Smith; sister, Meg Patterson; special friends: Sister Maria Meister, Sister Mary Clare, and Fr. John Rizzo.
VISITATION begins Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the West Center Chapel of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7 p.m. at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES are Friday, May 31, 2013, 9:30 a.m., West Center Chapel to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Omaha for MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10 a.m. Entombment, Resurrection Mausoleum, with military rites by VFW Post 247.

Dorothy Mae Harrison
Dorothy Mae Harrison of Tulsa, Okla., died May 27, 2013. She was born June 13, 1945 to Frank and Ruth Roubal of North Bend. Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of North Bend High School. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and worked as the food manager in a cafeteria at Yale University. She pursued further education and began a career in teaching. in Phoenix, Az.
She married
Roger Harrison July 20, 1969, and moved to Tulsa, Okla. She continued teaching until retiring.
Dorothy was a member of the Harvard Avenue Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, daughter Amy (Trevor) Corban, son Lyle (Ashley) Harrison; mother-in-law Grace Harrison; sisters Aurzella Thiesen of Cedar Bluffs, Marie Petersen of Fremont; brother Lloyd (Eva) Roubal of North Bend.
The funeral was June 1 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Okla. Burial was at Veterans Field of Honor, Flora Haven Memorial Gardens.

Warren F. Spath
Warren F. Spath of Medford, Wisc., died May 3 at his home. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, to Clarence and Lorena (Jahrmarkt) Spath at the family home in Pleasant Valley Township.
Warren attended District 52 school. He farmed in the Pleasant Valley and Webster area until moving to Wisconsin in 1958 where he operated a dairy farm until retiring in 1978.
Warren married
Arlene Buckendahl Oct. 6, 1946, in Norfolk. She died in 2004. After retiring from farming, they moved to Dorchester, Wisc., where he worked as custodian for the elementary school until retiring in 1992.
Warren was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, Wisc.
Survivors include daughter Shirley (Leon) Gonnering of Marshfield, Wisc.; sons Melvin Spath of Eau Clarie, Wisc., Merlin Spath of Lisle, Ill., Lynn (Glenda Wiese) Spath of Medford, Wisc.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Stiel of Scribner; sisters-in-law Helen Spath of North Bend, Betty Molacek of Columbus, Dorothy Kirkpatrick of St. Joseph, Mo.
The funeral was May 9 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville with burial in the church cemetery.

George Muller
George R. Muller of Morse Bluff died April 30, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.
George was born Jan. 2, 1958, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Franz and Shirley (Tubbs) Muller. He grew up in New York and after high school moved to Morse Bluff. He attended some college classes and was a long-time small business owner, including The Kirby Center and The Tan Center in Fremont and currently worked in maintenance at Cargill in Schuyler.
He married
Tracy Peterson July 21, 1990, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo.
George was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. He was a long-time power lifter at World Class Health Club in Fremont.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy; son Charles “Charlie” Muller, daughter Katy Muller, all of Morse Bluff; mother Shirley Bernard of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; brothers Franz “Jon” (Tammy) Muller of Cody, Erich (Deana) Muller of Highland, N.Y.; sisters Sheryl (Dan) Wheeler of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Elizabeth Miller of Stone Ridge, N.Y., Carrie Cheney of Rapid City, S.D.; and parents-in-law Robert and Mary Peterson of Wahoo.
Funeral Service was May 6 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend with the Rev. Calvin L’Heureux officiating. Burial was in Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial yet to be determined.
Francis Minarick
Francis J. Minarick of North Bend died Monday, April 29 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Francis was born May 1, 1922, in rural Scribner to Joseph and Betsey (Chapman) Minarick. Francis graduated from North Bend High School in 1939. He began his working career in the offices of Douglas Air Plants in California and Chicago. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, serving 31 months in the Pacific Area with the 33rd Infantry Division, including Kauai, New Guinea, Morotai, the Philippines and Japan. He was discharged in 1946. He then attended Creighton University for two years.
He married
Patricia Ullrich Sept. 28, 1948 in North Bend. They farmed with his brother Gene in the Webster area for 40 years before retiring in North Bend in 1996.
Francis was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Snyder and was a current member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of North Bend, the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff, and a former member of the V.F.W. Post #8223 of North Bend. Throughout his life, he served in many community organizations, including the school board, co-op board, parish council and CCD church programs.
Survivors include wife, Patricia; daughters Susan (Bill) Bayer of Minneapolis, Minn., Peggy Lindahl of Minneapolis and Patrice (Mark) Hines of Morse Bluff; sons Michael (Sarah) Minarick of Omaha, John (Debra) Minarick of Chicago, Ill. and Neal (Jody) Minarick of Monument, Colo.; brother Eugene Minarick of Scribner; sister Mary Konicek of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents; sister Rita Deppe; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and son-in-law Geof Lindahl.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Father Donald Cleary will officiate. Visitation is 4:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday with family receiving friends 6-8 and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, North Bend, with Military Honors conducted by members of V.F.W. Post #8223, AMVETS Post #20 of North Bend and American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff.
Memorials may be directed to St. Charles Catholic Church, the North Bend Rescue Squad, or the North Bend Senior Center.

Frances Zelaxny
Frances Zelazny of Silver Creek died April 29 at Mory’s Haven in Columbus.
She was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Nance County to Charles and Mary (Sturek) Bialas.
Frances married
Edward Zelazny in 1934 and helped him on the farm in addition to raising her family. He died in 1950. With the help of family, Frances stayed on the farm before moving to a nursing home in July 2011.
She is survived by sons Jerry (Kathleen) Zelazny of North Bend and Raymond Zelazny of Silver Creek; son-in-law Felix Tomasiewicz of Columbus; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters; five brothers; and three sisters-in-law.
Frances was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, where her funeral was held May 3. The Rev Mark Tomasiewicz and the Rev. William L’Heureux officiated, with burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Jason Gulbrandson
Jason David Gulbrandson was born Feb, 27, 1987, to Katherine Meier and Michael Gulbrandson at Bergan Mercy Medical Center. On day of life two, Jason was transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center where he underwent surgery due to a congenital heart defect. Jason was welcomed home from the hospital by his older sister, Jessica, and older brother, Jeffrey .
At age 3 Jason went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and underwent a Fontan procedure and received a mechanical heart valve. From that point of his life on Jason lived as normal of a life as possible, although he had several surgeries throughout his life.
Jason met his best friend, Brent Buda, in April of 1990. They spent their days together playing with Hot Wheels, watching and memorizing lines of movies and listening to music. Jason met his next best friend, his nephew Kaycee Gulbrandson, on March 1, 2007.
Jason’s life changed the day he met his true love Michaela and they have spent the best days of his life together. Their daughter, Paityn, was born Aug. 24, 2009. Paityn had Jason wrapped around her finger from the moment he saw her. Jason and Michaela celebrated their love when they married
May 27, 2011.
Jason was a true family man who spent many of his days playing with Paityn and Kaycee. Whether he was dressed as a super hero or a princess, it was guaranteed the kids would be belly-laughing.
Jason’s life came full circle when he passed peacefully and surrounded by his family on April 27, 2013, at the Nebraska Medical Center. Although Jason never had a whole heart, he loved life and the people in it wholeheartedly.
Jason is survived by his two greatest loves, his wife, Michaela, and daughter, Paityn, as well as his mother Katherine Williams, father Michael Gulbrandson, sister and brother-in-law Jessica and Matthew Winternheimer, brother Jeffrey Gulbrandson, and nephew, Kaycee Gulbrandson all of Omaha; grandmother Betty Meier, of North Bend, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.
Jason was a friend to everyone he met and considered his friends his family, particularly Brent Buda, Jon Borgstadt, Christopher Halpenny, Todd Knudsen, Benjamin Walstrom and Jeremy Ware. Jason has touched the lives of more people than his family will ever know and his legacy will continue to inspire even more. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Kim Duncan, Dr. John Kugler, Pediatric Cardiology nurse, Kris Houston, the medical staff at Children’s Hospital and Nebraska Medical Center for their expertise, compassion and the care they provided to Jason throughout his life.
Funeral services were held on May 1 at Lutheran Church of the Master, West, in Elkhorn. Interment was in Prospect Hill cemetery of Elkhorn. Memorials can be made to the Jason Gulbrandson Benefit Trust Fund.

Gerald Martens
Gerald J. Martens of Boulder City, Nev., died April 12 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.
Gerald was born Feb. 19, 1940, in North Bend to Henry and LaVina (Jones) Martens. He grew up in North Bend where he helped his dad in the garage while attending grade school and high school. Gerald then graduated from Bahner’s College of Hairstyling.
Gerald married
Sandra Kudlacek on June 27, 1959, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prague. They built a restaurant in North Bend in 1976 and named it the Frontier Steakhouse (now the Rawhide). They later moved to Fresno, Calif. and bought a retail medical uniform store, Bullard Medical Uniforms, and later bought Bettie Dawn Medical Uniforms in Mt. Vernon, Mo. Gerald was in sales all of his life, and they had various businesses and were proud to serve the community. Gerald and Sandy retired in 2001.
He was a Scoutmaster and involved with the Boy Scout Council for over 25 years. Gerald was a member of the Elks Lodge #2599 of Clovis, Calif. where he was treasurer from 1990-1994.
Survivors include wife, Sandy; sons Darryn Martens of Bakersfield, Calif. and Corby (Sheryl) Martens of Boulder City, Nev.; brother Marvin (Christina) Martens of Springfield, Mo; grandchildren Nicole (Steven) Gregory of Bakersfield, Calif., Melanie (Walter) Martens of Bakersfield, Calif., Travis (Alexis) Martens of Monterey, Calif. and Dylan Martens of Boulder City, Nev.; seven great grandchildren and his special dog, Goldie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Father Donald Cleary will officiate. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont on Tuesday, April 23, at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
