Genevieve Slader, 83
Genevieve Roberta Slader, 83, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at her home in Fort Calhoun.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Sievers - Sprick Funeral Home.
Genevieve Roberta Slader was born May 4, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to Bernard Dorsey and Elizabeth Reed. She grew up in Lincoln, Neb. and attended the University of Nebraska there, receiving a degree in English. On Dec. 4, 1941, she married
Dean C. Slader in Omaha. She was the museum curator for the Washington County Historical Museum.
She was a member of the Fort Calhoun Women's Club, Washington County Historical Association and served on its board of directors, the Nebraska State Historical Society and was a charter member of the Fort Atkinson Foundation.
Survivors are two sons, Dean S. Slader and John D. Slader; two daughters, Susan G. Slader Bennerotte and Martha A. Slader Haines; seven grandchildren and one brother, Robert Hummel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean C. Slader.
Memorials may be given to the Washington County Historical Association or the Omaha Literacy Council.
Agnes Hilgenkamp
Agnes Hilgenkamp, 98 Agnes Hilgenkamp, 98, of Fremont died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Services were Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. David Loeschen officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery at Fremont.
Mrs. Hilgenkamp was born July 8, 1899, to Gottlieb and Emma (Jacob) Hartung on the family farm near Fontanelle. She was baptized on July 30, 1899, and confirmed on May 4, 1913, both events taking place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Arlington. On May 4, 1922, she married
Evie H. Hilgenkamp at Arlington. They farmed north of Arlington, later farming her family's farm south of Fontanelle. In 1945, they moved into Fremont. She worked for several businesses in Fremont, including the Vienna Bakery, Kindler's Cafe and the Dodge County Hospital's cafeteria, before retiring.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Survivors are three daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Jeanette Phillippe of Maxwell, Neb.; Betty and Harold Koser of Loysville, Penn.; and Mrs. Doris Reis of Fremont; three sons and daughters-in-law, Morris and Betty Hilgenkamp of Kearney, Neb.; Arnold and Jan Hilgenkamp of Plymouth, Minn., and Robert Hilgenkamp of Fremont; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Dorsey of Omaha and Lorraine (Mrs. Gordon) Spangler of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Evie, in February 1969; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
Donna Goebel, 70
Donna I. Goebel, 70 of Lincoln, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at Gate No. 2.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
Donna I. Goebel was born in Bartlett, Neb.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Sheryl Goebel and Frank and Colleen Goebel, all of Lincoln and Joseph and Debra Goebel of Blair; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Roger Brown, Omaha; Diana and Steven Mata and Theresia and Tom Cannizzo, all of Chicago, Ill.; Janeece and Larry McNew, Lincoln; Rita and Ken Spicer, Atlanta, Ga.; and Stephanie and Jim Schlehuber, Omaha; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond M. Goebel.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
Walter Miller, 90
Walter Fredrick Miller, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.
Services were Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. Rev. Peggy Cooper and Rev. Kenneth A. Jensen officiated. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.
Walter Fredrick Miller was born July 12, 1907, in rural Herman, the third of eight children born to Peter and Emma (Janssen) Miller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Vacoma German Lutheran Church. He grew up in the rural Hooper and Herman areas and attended Bell Center School and the Herman Public Schools. On Aug. 7, 1935, he married
Mary Caroline Newell at Blair. They began farming in the rural Tekamah area in 1935. He had lived at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for the past 1 1 / 2 years.
He was Nebraska State Corn Picking Champion in 1961, 1962 and 1963 and competed at the national level as a representative of the state of Nebraska and International Harvester. He was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau and the National Farmers' Organization and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and David Coleman of Escondido, Calif.; two sisters, Viola West of Herman and Maxine Bragg of Council Bluffs, Iowa; several cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Caroline; an infant son, Walter Lee; a daughter, Nancy Kathleen; three sisters, Lucy Sheets, Louella Metzler and Roma Gilliland; and two brothers, Delmar Miller and Lester Miller.
Casket bearers were Larry Jackson, Dennis Connealy, John Eriksen, Jim Jensen, Ken Robertson and Ralph Anderson, Jr.
Honorary casket bearers were Jim West, Leon Bragg, Gordon Cram, Herbert Gamet, Donald McCain and Donald Miller.
Diane Kindler was organist.
Memorials may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair or the Burt County Museum in Tekamah.

Evelyn Saltzman, 90
Evelyn M. Saltzman, 90. of Fremont died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at the Fremont Care Center in Fremont.
Services were Saturday at Rozanek and Son Colonial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Leland Foreman of First Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.
Evelyn M.. Saltzman was born June 30, 1907, in Loup City, Neb., the daughter of Christopher B. and Rebecca M. (Keller) Haines. She was raised on a ranch near Lakeside, Neb. until she was 18 years old. She then was a midwife and cook for ranch owners in western Nebraska until her marriage to Harold E. Saltzman in 1938. They farmed in Nashville, Neb., from 1938-1971. In 1971, they purchased 40 acres in Fullerton, Neb., where she farmed until 1976. She then moved to Texas and lived with her daughter until 1982 when she moved to Blair. She lived in Blair from 1982 to 1984; living in Omaha from 1984 to 1992. She had lived in Fremont since 1992.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fremont.
Survivors are daughters Margaret L. (Mrs. Abner) Koehn of Jackson, Tenn.; Mary D. (Mrs. Wayne) Goetz of Hillsdale, Kan.; and Mickie (Mrs. David) Karlin of Fremont; a sister, Lucille West Young of Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousins, Wayne Keller of Oshkosh, Neb. and Gloria (Keller) Bell of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Tille Haines and Helen Quell; brothers, Ben Haines, Emerson Haines, Roy Haines and Forest Haines and a cousin, Lloyd Keller.
Lydia Andersen, 98
Lydia Andersen, 98, of Pioneer Retirement Community Center in Fergus Falls, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at the center.
Lydia. Andersen was born March 12, 1899, in Herman to Edward and Elsie (Meyers) Stulgies. She was baptized on May 12, 1899, in Washington County and grew up and worked on the family farm in Neola, Iowa. On April 17, 1918, she married
Herman F. Andersen in Neola. They lived on a farm near her parents ' farm. They moved to Omaha and then to Blair. In 1955, they moved to Battle Lake, Minn. and in 1961, they moved to Fergus Falls. Since January 1993, she had lived in Fergus Falls at the center. She had worked at the Ottertail Nursing Home and the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Ellen Andersen of Underwood, Minn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Jerry Rowlett of Norfolk, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie Hegarty of Omaha and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in September 1977; a brother, Ernest Stulgies; two sisters, Emma Koepke and Clara Dose and a granddaughter, Diana Norgren.
Margaret Appel
Margaret Apple died in early February 1998.
She had lived in Maple Lake, Minn., for many years after moving away from Blair.
Among her survivors is her sister, Eileen Jordan and a sister-in-law, Christine Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Appel, who died as the result of a heart - attack in September 1997.
