Robert Smith, 82
Robert R. Smith, 82, of Papillion and formerly of Beaver Lake and Fort Calhoun, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sievers - Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Smith was born May 16, 1915, in Iowa to Vern and Elsie ( Miller ) Smith. He grew up in Winner, S.D.; attended Winner High School before attending Yankton College in Yankton, S.D. He was the South Dakota State Champion in the 440 - yard sprint while at Yankton College. He also attended business college in Sioux City. On Feb. 24, 1934, he married
Lillian Florence Wentworth in Yankton. He operated the Yankton Radiator Co. in Yankton before moving to Omaha. He also built racing cars and built, refurbished and played the organ.
Survivors are his wife, Florence, of Papillion; grandsons, Todd Smith and Douglas Smith, both of Omaha; a brother - in - law and his wife, Darrell F. and Inola Wentworth, St. Cloud, Minn.; and nieces, Dorcas Dahlheim, Lincoln, and Delores Jensen, San Jose, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Vern; and daughter, Carol Ann.
Mardell E. Sanders, 63
Mardell E. Sanders, 63, of Fremont died March 29, 1998, following a brief illness.
Services were held April 3, 1998, at Westover Funeral Chapel. Rev. Daniel Parsch officiated. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery.
Mardell E. Laaker was born July 4, 1934, and was raised near Arlington. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Arlington. She married
Ivan T. Sanders on Nov. 11, 1956. He died April 9, 1984. She had lived in Fremont, Omaha, Minneapolis, Minn., and for the past 19 years in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. She was employed at Sears Credit Central in Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors are a daughter, Vicky Sanders of Seattle, Wa.; A son, Byron Sanders of Des Moines, his wife, Christina, and one grandchild; Two brothers, Duane &40 and wife, Ila ) Laaker of Fremont; and Darrell Laaker of Nickerson; A sister, Marva &40 Mrs. Bob ) Dorfmeyer of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and an infant brother.
Herbert Jones, Sr., 82
Herbert L. Jones, Sr., 82 of Blair died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Blair. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery.
Herbert L. Jones, Sr., was born May 29, 1915 in Gretna to Herbert L. and Blanche ( Wallace ) Jones. He attended school in Desoto and farmed in the Desoto and Arlington area until retiring in 1975. He then moved to Blair, where he lived at the time of his death. On Dec. 24, 1934, he married
Margy L. Wilderson in Papillion. He joined the Army on March 20, 1944, and served with the 30th Infantry Division known as Old Hickory. They fought from Normandy to the Elbe. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany on Nov. 25, 1944.
He was a member of the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Blair American Legion Post.
Survivors are his son and daughter - in - law, Ronald and Marilyn Jones of Fort Calhoun; a daughter - in - law, Joan ( Jones ) Kelley of Blair; six grandchildren; nine great - grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Johnson of Blair and a brother, Bob Jones of Oakland, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margy on Nov. 27, 1997; a son, Herbert Jones, Jr.; and a brother, Wallace Jones.

Harold Bausch, 74
Harold L. Bausch, 74, died at his Fremont home Saturday, April 4, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Rev. John Whelan will officiate.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Lattin Dugan - Chambers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery.
Harold L. Bausch was born Jan. 26, 1924, at Leigh, Neb., where he was raised. He graduated from Leigh High School in 1942 and entered the Navy. He returned to Leigh in 1944 where he worked in the post office. He later became postmaster at Leigh and served in that position until 1973 when he moved to Fremont. On April 3, 1944, he married
Lillian M. Fendrich at Leigh.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He had been active in square dancing since 1959 and was a nationally and internationally known square dance caller with 42 recordings. He had held calling clinics since 1965.
Survivors are four daughters, Veronica ( Mrs. Doyle ) Kauk of Hoxie, Kan.; Janice ( Mrs. Curt ) Recek of Fremont; Christina ( Mrs. Kelly ) Kobold of Ankeny, Iowa; and Deanna ( Mrs. Ray ) Norhenberg of Hooper; a son, Philip ( wife Jeanette ) Bausch of Lincoln; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hall of Leigh; nine grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian on Feb. 9, 1998, and one brother.
Ruby Mae Forsberg, 75
Ruby Mae Forsberg, 75, of Apache Junction, Ariz., died Thursday, April 2, 1998.
There will be a memorial service April 18 in Apache Junction with a later memorial service to be held in Blair.
Ruby Mae Forsberg was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Washington County, Neb. to Henry and Minnie Klindt. She was the wife of John A. Forsberg of Apache Junction.
Robert Ryan, 76
Robert W. Ryan, 76, of Blair died at his home Saturday, April 4, 1998.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Robert W.. Ryan was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Blair to James and Hannah ( Jensen ) Ryan. He attended the Rose Hill Elementary School and graduated from Blair High School. He started with Kelly Ryan Manufacturing Co. in 1946 as the bookkeeper and was still active in the company at the time of his death. On Dec. 28, 1952, he married
Lucille Sass in Omaha.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a past member of the Blair Volunteer Fire Department and a charter member of the Blair Kiwanis Club.
Survivors are his wife, Lucille; a son and daughter - in - law, Steve and Linda Ryan; daughters and sons - in - law, Sally and John Masters and Paula and Rod Kuhl, all of Blair; nine grandchildren; four step - grandchildren; one great - granddaughter; one sister, Clarice Pence of Blair and one brother, Curtis Ryan of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

John J. "Jake; " Andreasen, Jr., 56, of Blair, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, in Blair.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home.
John J. "Jake; " Andreasen. Jr., was born May 2, 1941, in Omaha to John and Helen ( Boruch ) Andreasen, Sr. He attended Blair Community Schools, graduating from Blair High School in 1959. He graduated from Dana College in 1963. On June 28, 1969, he married
Karen Schneider in Omaha. He worked for Mutual of Omaha from 1963 to 1972. In 1972, he started the Talk O' The Town and operated the business until his death.
Survivors are his wife, Karen; sons and daughter - in - law, Michael and Liz Andreasen, Lincoln, Neb.; Thomas Andreasen, Blair; and Joseph Andreasen, Lincoln; daughters and son - in - law, Keri and Travis Fox, Lincoln and Mary Andreasen, Blair; his mother, Helen Andreasen, Blair; sisters and brothers - in - law, Mary and Rockford Shanks, Blair; Diane Wigg, Chanhassen, Minn.; and Jane and Michael Swain, Gardiner, Maine; and one brother, Dan Andreasen, Blair.
He was preceded in death by his father, John.

Betty Jo Sprick, 31
Betty Jo Sprick, 31, of Blair, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at her home.
Services were May 23 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Betty Jo Sprick was born April 18, 1967, at Scottsbluff. and adopted by Rolland and Leanna Metz on Jan. 11, 1968. She was baptized at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Blair. She attended West Elementary School and graduated from Blair High School in 1985. She attended Midland College in Fremont. On May 17, 1997, she married
Todd Sprick at First Lutheran Church. She was employed at Dakotah Telemarketing at the time of her death.
Survivors are her husband, Todd; two daughters, Bailey Jo and Evelyn Ann; mother, Leanna Metz of Blair; father, Rolland Metz of Blair; grandmother, Edna Metz of Blair; two sisters, Amy ( Mrs. Bryan ) Hansen of Blair and Sheryl Metz of Omaha; father - in - law and mother - in - law, Wes and Ruth Ann Sprick, Blair; godmother, Bev Johnsen of Valley; two nephews, Bryer and Lance Hansen; and aunts and uncles.
