Harvey F. Ahlmeyer, 92
Arlington native Harvey F. Ahlmeyer, 92, of Ogallala, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Services were May 11 at St. Paul' s Lutheran Church in Ogallala. Rev. Robert Pierce officiated. Burial was in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Harvey Frederick Ahlmeyer was born Jan. 18, 1906, at Arlington to Fredrick and Hanna Ahlmeyer. He grew up and attended schools in the Arlington area.
On Dec. 26, 1931, he married
Mildred Walkenhorst in Lincoln. The couple made their first home in Fontanelle before moving to Arlington in 1933. In 1936, they moved to a farm in Perkins County. They purchased their present farm south of Ogallala in 1940.
He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and St. John' s Lutheran Church before transferring membership to St. Paul' s Lutheran Church in Ogallala when the church started an elementary school.
Survivors are two daughters and sons - in - law, Connie and Dean Cook and Betty and Larry Morrison, all of Ogallala; seven grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren and one great - great granddaughter; and one sister, Mrs. Alfred Dahlkoetter of Ogallala. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred on Feb. 19, 1995; a son - in - law, Ervin Armknecht; three grandsons; and three sisters, Elsie Hilgenkamp, Regina Walkenhorst and Lillie Bensen.
A memorial has been established to the church in his memory.

Harvey W. Goodwin, Sr., 77, of Kearney died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. C.J. Willis officiate. Masonic Ritualistic services will be provided by the Rob Morris Masonic Lodge #46 A.F. & A.M. of Kearney. Burial will be in the Herman cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Friday, with military rites conducted by the Tekamah American Legion Post and V.F.W.
Harvey W. Goodwin was born March 17, 1921, in Detroit, to Harvey and Irene ( Doherty ) Goodwin. He grew up and attended school in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II. After the war, he returned to Cleveland and was a self - employed candy salesman. He later moved to Iowa then moved to Kearney in 1980. He worked at Cash - Wa Candy Company and then was an instructor for Mid Nebraska Individual Services for three years until retiring in 1997. On Dec. 12, 1980, he married
G. Marie Hansen in Belleville, Kan.
Throughout his life, he was very active in organizations, including the Masonic Lodge, the Tehama Temple Shrine of Hastings, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elks.
Survivors are his wife, G. Marie, of Kearney; two sons, Harvey W. Goodwin, Jr., and Patrick Goodwin, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a step - daughter, Karen Fisher of Broken Bow, three grandchildren, four step - grandchildren; two step - great - grandsons, and a brother, Warren Goodwin of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Memorials can be given to the Tehama Shrine Transportation Fund.

L. Marie Wheatley, 88
Former Blair resident L. Marie Wheatley, 88, of Wymore died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the Wymore Good Samaritan Center.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Blair Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Cynthia Ordway of the Wymore United Presbyterian Church is officiating.
She was born June 7, 1909, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Thomas P. and Lauretta ( Hansen ) Jensen. She spent her childhood at Spencer and was a 1928 graduate of Spencer High School. She attended the Capitol School of Hair Styling in Omaha. On May 19, 1943, she married
F. Warren Wheatley in Omaha. They moved to Blair, and then to Wymore in 1978.
She was a member of the Wymore United Presbyterian Church and the Beacon Mariners of the church.
Survivors are a sister, Anna Parcher of Blair; two brothers and sister - in - law, Neils Jensen of Wymore and Albert and Pat Jensen of Tacoma, Wash.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Warren on April 4, 1997; three brothers and one sister.

Lavonne M. Hansen, 88
Lavonne M. Hansen, 88, of Blair, died Sunday, May 17, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Lavonne Marie Hansen was born March 3, 1910, in Fremont, to Andrew C. and Agnetha ( Stark ) Hansen. She graduated from Blair High School in 1925. She earned a bachelor's degree at Midland College in Fremont in 1953 and did graduate work at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. She taught school for 35 years. She began teaching in four rural schools: Lacronne, Wranch, Sutherland and Cuming City. She also taught in the Waterloo Public Schools and taught 19 years in the Fremont Public Schools. She retired in 1968. She had lived in Fremont and Blair. She was living in the Good Shepherd Home at the time of her death.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blair, church circle, Alpha Delta Kappa and American Association of University Women.
She is survived by two brothers and sisters - in - law, Ray and Norma Hansen of Pensacola, Fla., Andrew "Butch; " and Ruby Hansen of Blair; a sister and brother - in - law, Lorraine and Howard Pearson of Mayhill, N.M.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Fay Rose and brother, Niles Hansen.
Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Home in Blair.

William A. Meyer, 58
William A. Meyer, 58, of Fort Calhoun, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be today at 10:30 am. at Sievers - Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Internment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
William Arthur Meyer was born April 15, 1940, in Hastings to Arthur William and Gladys ( Muriel ) Miller. He grew up in Omaha and went to high school at Omaha Tech, playing on the football team. He received a football scholarship to Doane College in Crete. He later transferred to Peru State's Teacher's College where he received his bachelor of science in education degree in social studies and physical education. On July 2, 1960, he married
Christie Hays in Peru. They lived in Peru and then Auburn before moving to Fort Calhoun. The couple taught in Fort Calhoun for a few years. He and his brother - in - law bought the grocery store in Fort Calhoun and he ran it for a few years. He worked 20 years as an auditor for Hawkeye Security insurance company in Omaha. During that time he belonged to an auditors' association. He had been in failing health the past 12 years and suffered from multiple sclerosis and a heart condition. He enjoyed the visits of nurses and nurses aides who visited him through Blair Home Health Care.
He was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Christie; three daughters and their families, Ann and Wesley Devney of Blair; Karey Meyer and Bill Soll of Fort Calhoun and Wendy and Kevin Allely of Omaha; four grandchildren; one brother and two sisters.

Gerald "Jerry" Harper, 50
Gerald "Jerry" Harper, 50, of Blair died Monday, May 11, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery with military honors.
Gerald "Jerry" Harper was born March 29, 1948, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Gerald and Gladys ( Hartvig ) Harper. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1966. He married
Jannie Stitchler in 1967. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1967 and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. On April 3, 1976, he married
Connie Frish in Omaha. He was a foreman in the steel department at Kelly Ryan Equipment Co. in Blair, where he worked for 19 1 / 2 years.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1251 and the Am Vets Post No. 8 in Blair.
Survivors are his wife, Connie; son and daughter - in - law, Robbie and Gerri Harper of Council Bluffs, Iowa; granddaughter, Shelby; sister and brother - in - law, Linda and Dennis Stark of Council Bluffs; brother, Terry, of Texas; goddaughter Lorelei Pedersen of Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; father - in - law and mother - in - law, Earl and Priscilla Frish of Mondamin, Iowa, sisters - in - law and brothers - in - law, Gerald and Jani Houston of Dunlap, Iowa, Charlie Frish and Bev Allison of Little Sioux, Iowa, Paul and Julie Pedersen of Kentucky; special friend, Am Vets Commander Deb Wehrli; and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leo B. Vaughn, 82
Leo B. Vaughn, 82, of Tekamah, died May 2, 1998 at the Tekamah Nursing Center.
Military services were May 5 at First Baptist Church in Tekamah with Rev. Steve Eggum officiating. Jeff Robinson and Juli Morrow furnished the music.
Leo Bernard Vaughn was born March 5, 1916, to Jasper and Rose ( Colgan ) Vaughn at Herman. He married
Lola May Vinderslev. He farmed for many years in Washington County and was later employed at Kelly Ryan Equipment Co. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
After his first wife's death, he married
Margaret LaScala.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Bonnie Ricker of Livermore, Iowa, and Annette Peterson of Tekamah; six grandchildren, a brother, Floyd Vaughn, and sister, Patricia Comstock, both of Blair.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane; a grandson, Jeff Ricker; two sisters, Erma Kruse and Ethel Frye; and a step - daughter, Sandra Osmera.
Pallbearers were nephews Don Fink of Fremont, Bernard Comstock, Dennis Penry, Lonnie Penry, Randy Penry and Elmer Schmidt. all of Blair.
