Gladys I. Beavers, 86
Gladys I. Beavers, 86, of Fremont died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.
Services were Monday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Rev. Ron Croom officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Gladys I. Childers Beavers was born Jan. 10, 1912, in Lebanon to John and Lottie ( Horton ) Childers. She grew up in Nelson and was a graduate of Nelson High School. On Nov. 26, 1932, she married
Victor D. Beavers at Mankato, Kan. They lived in Superior, Denver, Colo., and Ortonville, Minn., but most of her life was spent in Fremont. She had worked at the former Campbell's Soup Co. in Fremont, and the former J.C. Penney's Store and the former J.M. McDonald's Store in downtown Fremont. She was an Amway Distributor.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont and the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does.
Survivors are a daughter and son - in - law, Charlotte and Delvin Westermann of Arlington; and two grandchildren, Keith Westermann of Fremont and Amy Westermann of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 5, 1976; her parents and an infant daughter.
Pallbearers were Leonard and Dale Lauritsen, Bill Springer, Dyral Dunklau, Jim Akin and Mike Stolley.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Fremont, or Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Dale Dewain Claxton, 45
Dale Dewain Claxton, 45, of Cortez, Colo., an Omaha native, was killed Friday, May 29, 1998, in Cortez.
Services were Wednesday at the Montezuma - Cortez High School Football Field. Rev. Michael Thornton and Police Chief Roy Lane officiated.
Dale Dewain Claxton was born March 15, 1953, in Omaha to Dairl Dewain and Agnes Lucille Claxton. He was a police officer in Cortez, Colo.
Survivors are his wife, Susan Elizabeth Claxton of Cortez; two daughters, Judy Louise Claxton Choate of Niagra, Mo, and Caitlin Makenzie Claxton of Cortez; two sons, Colton Tyler Claxton of Buffalo, Mo., and Corbin Walker Claxton of Cortez; his parents, Dairl and Agnes Claxton of Marshfield, Mo.; four sisters, Bonnie Christianson and Judy Moore, both of Blair, and Sherri Zwally and Carolyn Valdez, both of Marshfield, Mo.; and one brother, Doug Claxton, Sr., of Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorials may be given in Dale Claxton's name in care of Centennial Savings Bank, 343 E Main St., Cortez, CO 81321.

Rev. Kenneth W. Ernstmeyer, 79
Rev. Kenneth W. Ernstmeyer, 79, of Fremont, formerly of Hooper, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Services were Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. David Loeschen officiated. Burial was in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Kenneth W. Ernstmeyer was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Polk to Walter and Helen ( Nierman ) Ernstmeyer. He grew up in Scotia and Jansen. He attended St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., for two years and then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis for four years.
He was ordained at Hancock, Md., in 1944. On July 17, 1945, he married
M. Naomi Barney in Staplehurst. He served parishes at Hancock and Salisbury, Md., and in Scotia, Utica and Franklin. He served as pastor at Hooper from 1971 until retirement in 1994 when he moved to Fremont.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Survivors are his wife, Naomi; three sons and daughters - in - law, Phillip and Kaye Ernstmeyer of Grand Island, David and Sheridan Ernstmeyer of Austin, Texas, and Jeffrey and Nina Ernstmeyer of Derby, Kan.; two daughters and a son - in - law, Constance Rager of Omaha and Ruth Ann and Deland Morse of Orlando, Fla.; a brother and sister - in - law, Deverne and Ruth Ernstmeyer of Lincoln; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Lois and Neal Hafemeister of Lincoln and Ruth and Jack Wilson of Ventura, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Shane Rager, Brannon Morse, Phillip Ernstmeyer, Jr., Brent Morse, Larry Brink, Russell Callaway and Jason Ernstmeyer. J
unior pallbearers were Kenneth, Michael, Seth and Nathan Ernstmeyer.
Honorary pallbearers were pastors of the Fremont Circuit, Missouri Synod.
Memorials may be given to the Seminary Students Fund at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo; Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont; or The Lutheran Hour.

Merton Jensen, 87
Merton Jensen, 87, of Blair, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.
Services are 3 p.m. Thursday ( today ) at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Merton Jensen was born April 1, 1911, in rural Blair to Henry C. and Esther ( Jacobsen ) Jensen. He graduated from Blair High School and Dana College. On Oct. 7, 1939, he married
Betty Crichton in Omaha. He farmed in the Blair area until retiring in 1978. He had been a county assessor and worked with the ASC Office.
He was a past member of the Blair Lions Club, past president of the Blair Golf Club, 60 - year member of the Blair Masonic Lodge and member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. He was Dana College's first inductee into the Football Hall of Fame.
Survivors are his wife, Betty; three daughters and sons - in - law, Judy and Roland Clark of Blair, Jane and Joe Warman of Beltsville, Md., and Deborah and Dale Morrow of Severn, Md.; five grandchildren and four step - grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Valerie Jean; one brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Cora Mae and Mary Ann Jensen.
Memorials may be given to the Blair Rescue Squad.

E. Ivan "Ike; " McKinnis, 74
E. Ivan "Ike; " McKinnis, 74, of Blair died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Monday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Chapel in Blair. Rev. David Ludwick officiated. Military graveside services were conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1251 at the Blair Cemetery.
E. Ivan "Ike; " McKinnis was born on May 31, 1923, at Tekamah to Elmer Howard and Edith ( O'Neill ) McKinnis. He was baptized at the Riverside Baptist Church in Tekamah and he attended the Riverside School. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard Battleship USS Iowa during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. After returning home from World War II, he was in the trucking business in Decatur. He learned the brick mason trade from his step - father, Herman Hartley, in Westminster, Calif., and returned to the Blair area. He worked for Tom Pedersen, McKinnis - Rosenkilde and later operated his own brick masonry business. After retiring from masonry, he owned and operated Lazy Ike's Fish Market for several years. At the time of his death, he was working at Crowell Memorial Home.
On Jan. 27, 1945, he married
Lorene McKee of Decatur at Hiawatha, Kan. They were divorced in 1987. He later married
Mary Moore. They were divorced in 1997.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1251 in Blair and was a member of the Brick Layer's Union Local 5 in Fremont.
Survivors are one son, John McKinnis of Yutan; three daughters and sons - in law, Pat and Gary Williby of Blair, Michelle and Dean Campbell of Blair and Sandy and Ron Shubert of Shubert; one step - sister, Josephine of Litman, Calif; seven grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step - father; one brother, Pat McKinnis; and step - sister, Dee Dee Pottela of California.
Memorials may be given to the Blair Rescue Squad or Blair Fire Department.

Charles E. Schneider, 46, of Arlington died Friday, May 29, 1998.
Graveside services were Wednesday at Holy Cross cemetery in Blair.
Charles E. Schneider was born May 8, 1952, in Omaha to Sylvan Schneider Sr., and Viola ( LaTour ) Schneider. He was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines. He had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors are a daughter, Tammy Schneider of Kansas City, Kan.; his father, Sylvan Schneider, Sr., of Tekamah; and one brother, Sylvan Schneider. Jr., of Sylmar, Calif..
