U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Leroy Sieckmeyer, 77
Leroy Sieckmeyer, 77, of Blair, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Rev. Kenneth McClain officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery with military honors.

Leroy Sieckmeyer was born on the family farm south of Lincoln, Nebraska, at Martell on May 9, 1921, to William and Emma ( Beuttgenbach ) Sieckmeyer. He graduated from Sprague - Martell High School in 1939. He worked in Lincoln until joining the U.S. Navy on Sept. 10, 1942. He made many crossings from England to various ports and back, escorting fighting personnel. He was discharged on Dec. 10, 1946, as a Navy gunner's mate, 2nd class petty officer. He then attended Lincoln School of Commerce under the G.I. Bill. Upon graduation, he worked eight years for the Nebraska Public Service Commission in Lincoln. He came to Blair in 1956 to work for the Hunt Telephone Companies and later worked as chief accountant for Great Plains Communications. He retired in 1985 after 30 years with the company.

He was president of the Nebraska Telephone Association in 1961 - 62. He had been a member of the Blair First United Methodist Church since coming to Blair. He was a member of the Blair Lions Club for nearly 40 years. He also belonged to BIG ( Blair Investment Group ) for many years and enjoyed fellowship with the members. He was a member of the Blair American Legion Post 154 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 131 in Lincoln.

Survivors are his wife of 33 years, Betty; two sons, Douglas of Blair and Myron of Phoenix, Ariz., two step - daughters, Ruth ( Mrs. George ) Forst of Omaha and Ardeth ( Mrs. Jerry ) Scheer of Fremont; one sister - in - law, Virginia Sieckmeyer of Lincoln; four grandchildren; two great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elsie Schleiger; one brother, Glen; and a step - son, Steven Wilkins.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Foundation or the Blair Rescue Squad.

Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd R. Hansen, 78
Lloyd R. Hansen, 78, a former Blair resident, of 5956 Red Day Road, Martinsville, Ind., 46151, died Monday, July 6, 1998.
Lloyd R. Hansen was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Coulter, Iowa, to Roy and Esther Hansen. On Nov. 5, 1942, he married Ruth Kern. To this union, three children were born, a son, Gary, and two daughters, Susan and Linda. The Hansens moved to Blair in 1954 and then moved to Indiana in May of 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Gary, and wife, Sherrill of Denison, Iowa; two daughters, Susan of Martinsville, Ind., and Linda and husband, Mark, of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Jeremy of Denison Iowa, David, Lori and Lisa of Martinsville, Ind., and Christopher, Anthony and James of Indianapolis, Ind.; and one great - granddaughter, Haley - Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thomas J. Cronin, 82
Thomas J. Cronin, 82, of Blair died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Blair.
Services were Monday at the Campbell - Aman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Thomas J. Cronin was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Omaha to Clement and Marie (Colombo) Cronin. He attended school in Omaha and had worked for the City of Omaha.

Campbell - Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Howard C. Linnenkohl, 96
Howard C. Linnenkohl, 96, of Blair died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Tuesday morning at the Blair Cemetery.

Howard Cecil Linnenkohl was born Dec. 18, 1901, at Washington, Ga., to William and Caroline ( Porterfield ) Linnenkohl. At the age of 10 he moved to Arkansas City, Kan., with his family. He graduated from Arkansas City High School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1919 to 1921. In 1939, he moved to Omaha and in February of 1944, he married Eunice Kuhr. They lived in Omaha until moving to Blair in 1965. He had been employed as a stationary engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice; one son, Joe Linnenkohl of Omaha; one daughter, Eva Baber of Blair; 12 grandchildren; and one brother, William Linnenkohl of Newhall, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Howard; and one brother, Everett.

Marvin W. 'Dobby' Sexton, 91
Marvin W. "Dobby; " Sexton, 91, of Fremont, formerly of Nickerson, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Services were Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Rev. Eugene Watson and Rev. Brian Kottas officiated. Burial was in the Hooper Cemetery.

Marvin W. "Dobby; " Sexton was born Jan. 31, 1907 in Nickerson. He grew up and was educated in Nickerson. On Sept. 27, 1930, he married Virginia Bailey in Grand Island. They lived in Nickerson and operated a general store for 20 years. He was also the postmaster in Nickerson from 1951 to 1977.

He served as State President of the National League of Postmasters in 1957 - 58. He was named State Postmaster of the Year in 1956, as well as National Postmaster of the Year in 1956. He served as the group's regional coordinator in 1959 - 60.

He led many community projects in Nickerson. He was president of the Nebraska Volunteer Fire Fighters Association in 1956. He served as Nickerson's fire chief for 25 years, having helped establish the fire department in 1939. He had been a member of the committee to establish and promote state fire schools. He was the civil defense director in 1952 and local chairman of the Red Cross in 1961.

He was a member of the Lion's Club and Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

His membership in the Nickerson Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Fremont totaled 75 years. He served on many church boards and committees including work for Camp Fontanelle.

He served on the board of directors of the May Museum. He served on the Dodge County Disaster Committee.

He was a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200, Dodge County Old Timers Baseball Association and had been a member of DeMolay more than 50 years.

He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Marcella and Dale Hansen of Fremont; four grandchildren; eight great - grandchildren; one great - great - grandchild; a sister, Phyllis Badger of Denver, Colo.; two brothers and their wives, Maurice and Gladys Sexton of MaMesa, Calif.; and Robert and Karen Sexton of Durango, Colo.; and one aunt, Anona Johnson of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, who died in June of 1992.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and to the Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation.

Opal Stork, 79
Opal Stork, 79, of Blair died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Wichita, Kan.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Opal Mylet Gottsch was born March 12, 1919, at Kennard to Arthur Gottsch Sr. and Mary (Huber) Gottsch. She graduated from Kennard High School. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Gilbert Stork in Bennington. They lived in rural Blair. She moved to Blair in 1996 after the death of Mr. Stork in November of 1995. She was a longtime employee of Western Electric and Control Data.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by four sons, Gordon Stork and Greg Stork of Omaha, Gary Stork of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gerald Stork of Westminster, Colo.; two daughters, Vanessa Brown of Arlington and Angela Hensen of El Dorado, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 4 great - grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Christopherson of Omaha and Betty Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five brothers, Arthur Gottsch, Jr., of Mead, Pat, Bob, Sr., Virgil and Lyle Gottsch, all of Elkhorn; one sister - in - law, Norma Jean Stork of Blair; and one brother - in - law, Wilfred Stork of Kingman, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, and her parents.

Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.

Stella Hall, 88
Stella (Jensen) Hall, 88, of Tujunga, Calif., a. former Blair resident, died Sunday, May 24, 1998.
Burial was in Glen Haven Memorial Park, Sylmar, Calif.

Stella Jensen was born on June 6, 1909, in Washington County to Jens B. and Anna Jensen. She was raised in Washington County. She married Cleo Hall and they lived in Blair for several years before moving to California. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Larry, and three grandchildren, all of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo, on March 2, 1998; two sons, Jerry and Dale Hall; her parents; four brothers, Soren, Chris, Emil and William Jensen and five sisters, Sena Wulf, Hanna Jensen, Eleanore Hart, Mabel Best and Esther Saulvester.
