Nora L. Franke, 94
Nora L. Franke, 94, of Fremont and formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Services were Friday, Sept. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. David Loeschen officiated. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery east of Winslow.
Nora L. Gieselmann was born Jan. 24, 1904, in Arlington to Herman and Anna (Beugholt) Gieselmann. She grew up on a farm northeast of Arlington. On Nov. 23, 1926, she married
Howard Franke at Arlington. The couple lived 10 miles west and one mile south of Herman. In September of 1971, she moved to Fremont. In July of 1994, she moved to Arbor Manor.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont, Jolly Friendship Club, a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Hooper.
She is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Maynard and Rose Franke and Eugene and Jennie Franke, all of Fremont; a daughter and son - in - law, Irene and Paul Sherod of Arlington; a sister, Edna Bartling of Fremont; six grandchildren; 10 great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard on April 17, 1971; her parents; five brothers, William Gieselmann, Edward Gieselmann, Martin Gieselmann, Paul Gieselmann and Walter Gieselmann and three sisters, Martha Flake, Elsie Greunke and Ella Gieselmann.
Pallbearers were Pernell Franke, Jerry Franke, Greg Franke, Shawn Franke, Scott Franke and Jeremy Dougherty.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
Ray Lantry, 61
Ray Lantry, 61, of Blair died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Country Bible Church. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair, in charge of arrangements.
Ray Edward Lantry was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Washington County to George and Opal (Brewster) Lantry. He graduated from Blair High School and attended Dana College. On June 5, 1959, he was married
to Peggy Gutschow in Blair. For the past nine years he had been employed with Woodhouse Ford in Blair.
He was a member of Country Bible Church and the Blair Golf Club.
He was survived by his wife, Peggy; one daughter, Terri, and husband, Dave Taylor of Blair; three sons, Tom, and wife, Gina Lantry of Omaha, and Tony and Timothy Lantry of Blair; grandchildren, Sydney and Kylie Taylor of Blair and Wyatt and Paige Lantry of Omaha; two sisters, Norma Jean Anderson and Wanda Poulson of Blair; one brother, Lee Lantry, of Sarasota, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Opal Lantry.
Roberta 'Bobbie' Perkins, 74
Roberta J. "Bobbie" Perkins, 74, of Blair died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
Services were Monday, Aug. 31, at the Campbell - Aman Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.
Bobbie Reeh was born on Sept. 2, 1923, at Fort Calhoun to Earl and Theodora (Finch) Reeh. She attended the Fort Calhoun Schools. After the death of her first husband, Willis Gregory, she married
Lyman "Perk" Perkins on Dec. 19, 1947, in DeKalb, Ill. While living in the DeKalb area, she was a bookkeeper for different companies. The couple ran Perk's Tavern in Blair for several years. After closing the tavern, she worked as a corrections officer for the Washington County Sheriff's Department and also worked for a seed corn company. She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a good friend to many people. She was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She belonged to the DeKalb, Ill., Moose Lodge.
She is survived by one son, Henry "Hank" Gregory of Dunlap, Ill., and his significant other, Anne Connors; one daughter, Linda Jacobson - Dinley, and her husband, Jerry Dinley of McConnell, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Bob and Jim Rudisill, Henry Gregory III, Gavin, Luke and Andy Gregory, Kimbery Lawson and Daniel Jacobson, Jr.; three great - grandchildren, Courtney Lawson, Daniel Jacobson III, and Sinjin Lewis; a foster granddaughter, Pam Gilmore, and foster great - grandchildren, Tara and Amber Gilmore; and foster great - great - grandson, Gage Gilmore; three sisters, Marilyn Kempcke of Blair, Dorothy Floyd of Everett, Wash., and Mildred Nisco of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Warren Reeh of Blair; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman Perkins; a daughter, Maureen Rudisill; her parents, Earl and Theodora Reeh; a sister, Corrine Reeh; two grandsons, Michael and Roger Jacobson; and her first husband, Willis Gregory.
Wubbena 'Bea' Rand, 95
Wubbena "Bea" Rand, 95, of Blair, formerly of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at her brother Jake Rand's home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Presbyterian Church in Missouri Valley. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Missouri Valley.
Wubbena Catherine Rand was born March 7, 1903, in Sac County, Iowa to John and Steinetta (Spier) Rand. She attended school in Sac and Harrison Counties in Iowa. She lived on the family farm and helped manage the farm operation in rural Harrison County until moving to Blair to be with her brother in 1995.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
She is survived by her brother, Jacob Rand of Blair; two nephews, Robert and Roger Rand; one niece, Mary Wohlers and many great - nephews and great - nieces; and by a special care giver, Mac Connealy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Katy, Shamka and Jennie and by two brothers, John and Eilert.
Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair or the Rand Community Senior Center in Missouri Valley.
Alvin O. Wrich, 68
Alvin Otto Wrich, 68, of Omaha, formerly of Kennard, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Aksarben Manor in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Burial will be in the German Cemetery.
Alvin Otto Wrich was born June 13, 1930, in Orum to Otto and Dora (Wiese) Wrich. He attended Blair High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was awarded two bronze stars from being wounded. He lived most of his life in Kennard and Omaha. He worked for Omaha Steel until retiring in 1992.
He is survived by four children, Terry Wrich of Blair, Cynthia Bond of Arlington, Mary Lou Satterfield and Julie Boyce of Blair; 11 grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; his mother, Dora Wrich of Blair; one sister, LeuEtta Wulbern of Kennard; and two brothers, Andrew of Kennard and Larry of Fairmont.
Durward L. 'D.L.' Sidebottom, Sr., 90
Durward L. "D.L." Sidebottom, Sr., 90, of Blair died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair.
Services were Thursday, Oct. 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial was at 2 p.m. in the Odebolt, Iowa, Cemetery.
Durward L. "D.L." Sidebottom was born on May 25, 1908, in Hancock, Iowa, to Samuel A. And Ethel (Baker) Sidebottom. He attended school in Spencer, Iowa. On Dec. 14, 1933, he married
Edith Dunning in Omaha. The couple moved to Nashville where D.L. began farming. In 1943, they moved south of Blair where he continued farming and started a joint cattle feeding operation with August Ruser. Due to health problems, his doctor suggested that he slow down, so he began an insurance business. However, farming and cattle feeding were still a part of his life until 1973. The couple moved to Blair in 1967. He moved into the Good Shepherd Home in the fall of 1991.
He is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Bud and Margaret Sidebottom, Jr., of Blair; three daughters and sons - in - law, Edith and Ray Satterfield of Blair, Mary Ann and Dennis Laaker of Bennington and Ethel and Paul Saathoff of Omaha; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Marcia and Mitch Law, Sharon and Steve Ray, Beth and Larry Ratfield, Jim and MaryLou Satterfield, and David Satterfield, all of Blair, Janis Satterfield of Fremont, Michael Laaker of Bennington and Matthew Saathoff of Omaha; 10 great - grandchildren and one great - great grandchild.
D.L. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith, in September of 1991; one daughter Donna Mae; one son, Charles; and one brother, Sam.
Memorials may be directed to the building fund at First United Methodist Church or the Good Shepherd Home.

Paul Vincent 'P.V.' Hansen, Jr., 67
Paul Vincent "P.V." Hansen, Jr., 67, of Kenosha, Wis., a former Blair resident, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, in Albuquerque, N.M., after a short illness of lung cancer.
Services were Friday, Oct. 16, at St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Burial was in Green Ridge cemetery in Kenosha.
Paul Vincent "P.V." Hansen, Jr., was born May 18, 1931, in Salt Lake City, to Paul V., Sr., and Ethel Matilda (Tollander) Hansen. He was baptized in 1932 in Oklahoma City and later moved to Blair. He was a 1948 graduate of Blair High School. In 1952, he graduated from Dana College with a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry. He received his master of science degree in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1954. On April 2, 1955, he married
Greta Dahlberg at Nebo Lutheran Church in Chicago. From 1954 to 1956, he had worked at Swift & Company in Chicago as a research chemist. As an assistant professor of chemistry, he taught at Dana College from 1956 to 1960. In 1962, he went to Carthage College and taught chemistry for 32 years and retired in 1994 as department chairman. He was a Professor Emeritus of Carthage College and a member of the American Chemical Society. He had earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 1965.
He was a member of St. Mary's Lutheran Church where he had served on the facility planning committee, the stewardship and the call committees, the church council and the worship, music and arts committees. He was a member of the church's Liturgical Choir and St. Mary's Bells. He was a member of the committee for Boy Scout Troop 533. He also volunteered at the Shalom Center Soup Kitchen and was an advocated for recycling and the environment.
He is survived by his wife, Greta, of Kenosha; two sons, Philip Christian of Temecula, Calif., and Peter August of Indianapolis; one daughter, Karen Astrid Hansen of Kokomo, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Lutheran Church or Dana College in Blair.

Eleanor DeVinney Jensen, 87
Eleanor DeVinney Jensen, 87, a prominent Washington County farm woman, now of San Mateo, Calif., died Sunday, August 16, 1998, in San Mateo.
A memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at the Herman Federated Church. Rev. David Masten will conduct the service. A reception will follow.
She had granted her body to the Stanford University Medical Research School for detailed rheumatoid arthritis study. After this study, she will be buried with the Jensen family in the Blair Cemetery.
Eleanor DeVinney was born March 2, 1911, in Chunchula, Ala., to Joseph and Marie DeVinney. Six years later the DeVinney family returned to a family farm near Blair. She graduated from Blair High School in 1928 with high honors and was a state champion in debate. She taught in the eight - grade March country school. On May 20, 1932, she married
Alton Byron Jensen. The couple farmed seven miles north of Blair. She moved to San Mateo recently to be near her son and his family.
She helped found and promote the Federation of Women's Clubs in Nebraska, Blair Bench Club, Nebraska Farm Bureau, Blair Community Hospital, Pleasant View Sunday School, Herman Eastern Star and the Herman Federated Church.
She was survived by her daughter, Sally, of Omaha; her son, Larry, and his wife, Noriko, of San Mateo; her sister, Irene Davis of Truckee, Calif.; her stepsister Lucile Smith of Blair; three grandchildren, Dirk Byron and his wife, Dawn, of San Mateo; Brooke Alise Jensen of San Francisco; Nels Joseph of San Jose; and two great - grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton, in 1985 and a daughter - in - law, Jan Alise, in 1974.
