Frances M. Shinnick, 89
Frances M. Shinnick, 89, of Omaha, a native of Washington County, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, in Omaha.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 7 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha.
Rev. James Brown, O.A.S., officiated.
Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Omaha.
Frances Margaret Shinnick was born Aug. 9, 1909, in the Garryowen Township of Washington County to James and Jane Shinnick, who were Irish settlers.
She had helped her parents with their farm work and then later worked in domestic work.
She had lived in Washington County until the early 1950s.
She retired in 1974.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun and Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha.
She is survived by several cousins, Louis Sully of Fort Calhoun, Mary K. Miller of Blair, Ruth Laverty of Omaha and Patricia Nichols of Guam, Sister Liz Sully, O.P., of Sinsinawa, Wis., John Kelly of Fort Calhoun, Anita Peters, Kathleen Tenborg and Bernadette Mines of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Clare Shinnick.
Pallbearers were Lou Sully, Jr., Mark Wilderman, Joe Miller, Rob Miller, Bill Fitzgerald, Dave Miller and Mike Miller.
John A. Gentleman Mortuary, Westside, in Omaha was in charge of arrangements.
Raymond J. Peters, 79
Raymond J. Peters, 79, of Arlington and formerly of Washington, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 10, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bennington.
Rev. John A. Pierson officiated. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery near Washington.
Raymond J. Peters was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Washington to William and Anna (Rosenkilde) Peters.
He grew up between Washington and Arlington and attended Mattes School in Washington County.
He was a lifetime resident of Washington County.
He farmed for several years then worked for Chicago - Northwestern Railroad for several years.
On Sept. 11, 1941, he married
Rosie Luschen in Bennington.
He then returned to farming as well as working part time for J.C. Robinson Seed Co. at Waterloo.
In 1972, he left farming and worked full time at the seed company until his retirement in 1984.
The couple had moved to Arlington in 1982.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie; a daughter and son - in - law, Joan and Paul Sorensen, and a son and daughter - in - law, Ronald and Janel Peters, all of Arlington; four grandchildren, Paula (Mrs. Randy) Schneider, Rhonda (Mrs. Steve) Thompson, Rachel (Mrs. Jon) Rosenthal and Chris Sorensen and his fiancee, Sarah; and two great - grandchildren, Coartney and Olivia Schneider.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joseph A. Roberts, 88,
Joseph A. Roberts, 88, of Blair, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at his daughter's home in Craig.
Mr. Roberts was cremated.
Joseph Arthur Roberts was born Nov. 30, 1909, in Dunlap, Iowa, to Willis and Vesta (Pounds) Roberts.
He graduated from Dunlap High School in 1927.
He then moved to Omaha were he spent most of his adult life until his retirement to Blair in 1972.
He was a carpenter by trade.
On June 26, 1932, he married
Verda Pinkerman in Papillion.
He is survived by his wife, Verda; one son, Denny D. Roberts of Casseville, Mo.; two daughters, Denise Shaw of Craig and Claire Berglund of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister, Altha Roberts, of LaVista; six grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son, Douglas Arthur Roberts.

Richard T. Sievers, 97
Richard T. Sievers, 97, a lifelong resident and community leader in Fort Calhoun, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, following a brief illness.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 7, at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Gregg Miller officiated.
Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
Solomon Lodge 10 had conducted a Masonic service on Friday evening.
Richard T. Sievers was born May 9, 1901, in Fort Calhoun to William and Anna (Sierk) Sievers.
He had served as a funeral director since 1929 and served as state officer of the Nebraska Funeral Director's Association.
He had been the city clerk and chaired the Planning Board.
He was a founding director of the Fort Calhoun State Bank.
He married
Clara Klindt in 1926.
She died in 1950.
In 1954, he married
Clara Remmers, who preceded him in death in 1995.
His community activities included 25 years on the school board; 40 years on the Volunteer Fire Department, serving 20 years as its chief and 22 years on the Omaha Public Power District Board.
He had received an award recently for his 75 - year membership in the Masonic Lodge.
He was a member of the Shrine and Royal Arch Commandary and Naomi Chapter 121 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by two daughters and sons - in - law, Lois and Bill Winkler of Oklahoma City and Carol and Duane Sprick of Fort Calhoun; a sister, Dorothy, of Fort Calhoun; seven grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; one daughter, Emilie, and one brother, Walter.
Pallbearers were Dwight DuBois, Carl Grotelueschen, Nate Grotelueschen, Al Kansa, Michael Kansa, Richard Orthwein and Richard Winkler.
His daughter, Carol Sprick, played the organ.
Joanne Slader played the piano.
Sievers - Sprick, the funeral home where Mr. Sievers had carried on the family business, was in charge of arrangements.
