Vernie Lock
CENTRAL CITY -- Vernie Louise Lock, 88, of Central City died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Long Term Care in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. John Dahlstrom will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Merrick Foundation.
Miss Lock was born July 20, 1911, near Marquette to Harold Lee and Alta (Perrel) Lock. She attended Cedar Valley Country School in Hamilton County. She lived all of her life in the Central City area.
She cared for her mother and sister at home. After her mother's death, she attended the Hastings Beauty Academy. After graduating, she worked at Lafayette Beauty Salon for three years before purchasing it. She owned and operated the salon for 38 years.
She retired in 1980, but continued to help out with the shop. Miss Lock moved to Long Term Care in November 1999.
She was an active member of Christian Science Church, where she served as a reader.
She enjoyed crafts, flowers, gardening, quilting, playing the organ and playing cards.
She had been active in the Chamber of Commerce and the Business and Professional Women's Organization in Central City.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Bernice Lock of Central City.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Lock in 1968 and a brother, Edwin Lock in 1988.
Marjorie Schwartz
CENTRAL CITY -- Marjorie Joan Schwartz, 73, of Central City died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Central City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Central City Cemetery.
Mrs. Schwartz was born May 1, 1926, at Nice, France to Walker W. and Elizabeth (Howe) Tackett. Her family moved to Michigan, as well as other cities across the United States, when she was a young girl. She graduated from high school at North Hollywood High School in California.
She married
Nathan Schwartz on Feb. 12, 1956, in Dearfield, Ill. They lived in Illinois until moving to California in 1994, then to Aurora in 1995 and to Integrated Health Services in Central City in 1996.
Survivors include her daughter, Davida Mahon of Minden; three brothers, Tom Tackett of Palm Springs, Calif., Michael Tackett of Newport News, Va. and Timothy Tackett of California; and four grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Harry Svanda
RAVENNA -- Harry Svanda, 84, of Ravenna died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. Mark Cadenbach will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery in Ravenna. Rasmussen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be prior to service time at the church.
Mr. Svanda was born Aug. 24, 1915, at Ravenna to Frank and Rose (Dvoracek) Svanda. He graduated form Ravenna High School in 1934.
On Oct. 5, 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise in the South Pacific. He also worked in the gunnery office for two years.
He married
Betty Preston of Pleasanton on June 9, 1945, in Billings, Mont. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy on Oct. 3, 1945, and they lived in Omaha, St. Louis, Mo., Kansas City, Mo., and Denver, Colo. Mr. Svanda worked for the National Archives Record Service for the U.S. Government, and for Civil Service as an archivist.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge, VFW and the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Ravenna; a son, Steven of Castle Rock, Colo.; two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Ed) Martin of Blue Springs, Mo., and Rosemary (Mrs. Lloyd) Scheitlin of Rocklin, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Josephine Barlow of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by six brothers; and four sisters.
Reta Zimmerman
BROKEN BOW -- Rita Zimmerman, 87, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Tim Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Govier Brothers Mortuary.
A memorial is suggested to the Dunning United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship in care of Shirley Saner.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born Nov. 14, 1912, at Gandy to Raleigh and Lizzy (Fablinger) Joy.
She married
Lester W. Zimmerman on March 2, 1928, in Lexington. They made their home near Arnold and worked for E.F. Blix. They moved to a ranch southwest of Dunning, and later moved to a ranch six miles west of Anselmo. They lived in Denver for a short time, and then returned to the ranch.
Mr. Zimmerman died May 9, 1968. In 1970, Mrs. Zimmerman moved from the ranch to her home in Dunning. In 1977, she moved to Broken Bow.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Dunning.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, yard work and drapery work.
Survivors include a son, Dale Zimmerman of Broken Bow; two daughters, Carolyn Franks (Mrs. Don) of Westminister, Colo. and Marolyn Thomas (Mrs. Don) of Westminister, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Joy of Grand Island; and a sister, Marjorie Monroe of Gothenburg.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Duane; two brothers, Vernon and Floyd; a sister, Leta Nansel; two grandsons; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Jennifer Ingram
NORTH PLATTE -- Jennifer Ingram, 27, of North Platte, formerly of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in North Platte.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bruce Boehmer will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. The Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
The casket will be closed, but friends and relatives may sign a register book from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the mortuary.
Memorials have been established to the American Diabetes Association and the Broken Bow Public Schools music department.
Miss Ingram was born Aug. 4, 1972, at Laramie, Wyo. to James A. and Carol (Nickle) Ingram. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1990. She then moved to Seattle, Wash., where she lived for three years. She later returned to Broken Bow.
She worked at the Broken Bow Clinic, and as a dispatcher for the Broken Bow Police Department, Sheriff's Department and the Nebraska State Patrol. She then moved to North Platte, where she worked as a dispatcher for the Nebraska State Patrol.
She was currently enrolled at Mid Plains Community College.
Miss Ingram was an accomplished pianist, and she enjoyed singing and music.
Survivors include a daughter, Tehya Crystal Ingram of Broken Bow; her parents, Jim and Carol Ingram of Broken Bow; a brother, Russel Ingram of Laramie, Wyo.; paternal grandmother, Sarah Ingram of Laramie, Wyo.; maternal grandfather, Hubert Nickle of Wheatland, Wyo.; great grandmothers, Dorothy Pennell of Humbolt, Texas, and Lola Nickle of Purdy, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Beverly Howard Ingram.
