Ethel Nelson
ALDA -- Ethel G. Nelson, 97, of Alda died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services are pending at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Theresa Pokorski
LOUP CITY -- Theresa Pokorski, 91, formerly of Ashton, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., with a 4 p.m. parish rosary, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice or the Rose Lane Home.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pokorski was born on Dec. 25, 1907, on a farm southeast of Ashton to Cash and Elizabeth (Stefanowicz) Kosmicki. She attended Mount Carmel Parochial School in Paplin. She grew up and worked on the family farm.
She married
Louie Pokorski on May 26, 1925, at Mount Carmel Catholic School in Paplin. The couple farmed in Howard and Sherman counties until retiring in 1962. At that time, they moved into Ashton.
Mr. Pokorski died on Nov. 14, 1973. Mrs. Pokorski continued to live in Ashton until June 1995, when she entered the Rose Lane Home in Loup City, where she lived the rest of her life.
She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and gardening.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Altar Society and Rosary Sodality.
Survivors include one brother, Emil Kosmicki of Grand Island.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Pokorski; and one brother, Clem Kosmicki.
Wayne Rieflin
DONIPHAN -- Wayne C. Rieflin, 80, of Doniphan died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in Cedarview cemetery in Doniphan.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Doniphan United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rieflin was born on Dec. 27, 1918, at Hastings to Adolph and Dorra (Buddecke) Rieflin. He grew up and attended school in Friend.
He married
Doris Stuart on Aug. 12, 1940. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Wyoming for a short time. He moved to Doniphan, where he farmed and ranched. He also opened a barber shop and shoe repair shop along with doing mechanical repairs for about five years in Doniphan.
He enjoyed hunting and collecting antiques.
He was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Duane and Dale Rieflin, both of Doniphan; four daughters, Gloria Tagge of Central City, Virginia Jacobsen of Grand Island, Priscilla Rieflin of Kearney and Brenda Bronson of Doniphan; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bea Webster of Toledo, Ohio; two half sisters, Jeanette and Deloris; and two half brothers, Gerald and Everett Rieflin.
Phyllis Vogel
CAIRO -- Phyllis M. Vogel, 62, of Cairo died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Cairo with the Revs. Eldon Elsberry and Randy Julian officiating. Burial will be in Cameron cemetery south of Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Vogel was born on Sept. 4, 1937, on a farm east of Dannebrog to Guston and Dora (Becker) Lemburg. When she was 4, her family moved to Grand Island. She was educated in the Grand Island public schools.
She married
Franklin E. Vogel on May 27, 1955, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Grand Island. The couple lived in Cairo until 1959, when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. She worked for the nursery at Calvary Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.
The couple moved back to Cairo in 1968 to own and operate Vogel Salvage. Mr. Vogel died in January 1998.
Mrs. Vogel was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Women's Mission Circle and the Christian Women's Club.
Survivors included two sons, Douglas of Grand Island and Ty of Cairo; two daughters, Jane Schipman and Kay Fielding of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Willis of Cairo, Mervin of Mesa, Ariz., and Lowen of Lincoln; and two sisters, Elaine Grim of Dannebrog and Lois Drake of New Jacksonville, Tenn.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren and three brothers, Leroy Lemburg and two infant brothers.
Reta Zimmerman
BROKEN BOW -- Reta Zimmerman, 87, of Broken Bow died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Susana Alvarado-Ramos
Susana Alvarado-Ramos, infant daughter of Milton and Delmi (Ramos) Alvarado of Grand Island, was stillborn Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jose Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include her parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Eula Haddix
Eula M. Haddix, 85, of Grand Island died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Haddix was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Brush, Colo., to Jacob and Sophia (Reckling) Peters.
