Roy Hiatt
Roy T. Hiatt, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Aurora, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or the church.
Mr. Hiatt was born on Nov. 1, 1911, at Wolbach to Charles and Anna (Mattson) Hiatt. When he was 5 years old, his mother died. He grew up on the farm and moved in 1936 to Elsie, where he was employed.
He married
Anna Hazel McGahan in 1937 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace. He farmed in the Elsie area until he retired at age 66.
He sold his farm in 1980 and moved to Aurora. He lived there for 18 years before moving to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.
He was an Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service committeeman for many years and worked for the Ogallala Sale Barn. He enjoyed baseball, football and playing cards.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bernard Hiatt of Lakeland, Fla., and Joseph Hiatt of Shawnee, Kan.; four daughters, Lavonne (Mrs. Bill) Komp of Waterloo, Ill., Mary (Mrs. Terry) Cook of Overton, Barbara Buttermore of Phoenix and Sherri (Mrs. Terry) Bruner of Flower Mound, Texas; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two sisters, Irene Steinwart of Grant and Rosella Nelson of St. Paul; and one brother, Bill Hiatt of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Thomas Haas Jr.
POLK -- Thomas Kenneth Haas Jr., 52, of Polk died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at his home after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Solt Funeral Home in Polk.
Mr. Haas was born on Nov. 4, 1947, in Guttenberg, N.J., to Thomas and Gladys (Finn) Haas. He grew up in New Jersey and joined the U.S. Army. He completed training with the 82nd Airborne and served with the 101st in Vietnam. He returned to the states and instructed troops.
He served two consecutive tours in Vietnam and was discharged in 1969. After his military service, he lived in the Washington, D.C., area and owned and operated several automobile-related businesses. He was a licensed private pilot. Due to illness, he retired and moved to Polk in May 1999.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was raised in the Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing and flying.
Survivors include one son, Thomas of Phoenix; one daughter, Kim (Mrs. Aaron) Kelsey of Huntington Beach, Calif.; his mother, Gladys Hurd of Aurora; his father, of Lake Placid, Fla.; five sisters, Gayle (Mrs. Lyle) Gustafson of Madison, Wis., Francis (Mrs. Brian) Weisgerber of Boonesboro, Md., Renee (Mrs. Chuck) Enderle of Aurora, Lorene Engert of York and Marty Engert of Aurora; and five brothers, Renard Engert of Grand Island, Bill Engert of Jefferson, S.D., Carlin Engert of Aurora, Loren Engert of Dalhart, Texas, and Jimmy Engert of western Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Cecelia Meyer
SPALDING -- Cecelia E. Meyer, 99, of Spalding died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Revs. Joseph Hannappel and James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Sunday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Theresa Pokorski
ASHTON -- Theresa Pokorski, 91, of Ashton died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Larry Coulter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., with a 4 p.m. parish rosary, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice or the Rose Lane Home.

'Dick' Place
ST. LIBORY -- Richard "Dick" Place, 64, of St. Libory died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Cotesfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Place was born on Dec. 27, 1934, at Palmer to John and Olive (Stone) Place. He was educated in the Palmer public schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954. He owned and operated a barber shop beginning in 1960 and then worked for Otto's Barber Shop until retiring in January 1997.
He married
Fern Moravec on Nov. 10, 1956. They lived in Grand Island and the St. Libory area.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Legion of Palmer and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Grand Island. He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rick and Ken, both of Grand Island, and Scott of St. Libory; one daughter, Sheri (Mrs. Darrell) Adams of Fullerton; five grandchildren; and one sister, LaVera Swanson of Palmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wayne and Dale.
David Scott Sr.
NORTH PLATTE -- David Elroy Scott Sr., 63, of North Platte died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Adams and Swanson Chapel. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National cemetery with military honors at graveside.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
Mr. Scott was born on Aug. 29, 1936, in Broken Bow to Rex and Louise (Waters) Scott. He attended school in Broken Bow and North Platte. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958.
He married
Christine Voelkner on March 15, 1968, in Kearney. They lived in North Platte, where he worked at the J.C. Penney Auto Center as a mechanic. He also worked for Walker Roofing in Cozad and the North Platte public school system.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2839. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard, working on cars and trading cars.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Judy (Mrs. James) Jackson, Cheryl (Mrs. Tony) Hornelas, Tammy (Mrs. Larry Sr.) Smith and Dawn Scott, all of North Platte; one son, David Jr. of Lincoln; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Janice (Mrs. Charles) Nelson of Kearney; one brother, Stanley of Amherst; and three children from a previous marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Julia and Peggy Scott.
