Freda John
LOUP CITY -- Freda Fern John, 74, of Loup City died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at the Rose Lane Care Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Park cemetery west of Arcadia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. John was born Sept. 30, 1925 in the Lee Park area of Custer County to Albert and Flossie (Marsh) Hunt. She was raised in the Lee Park area and attended rural school. She attended high school in Arcadia.
She married
Edward John on February 11, 1946 at Concordia, Kan. The couple lived in Central City where Mrs. Johnson worked in nursing homes as a geriatric nurses aide for many years. In 1986 she retired and moved to Arcadia.
Mr. John died in November of 1991. Mrs. John lived at the Hawthorne Manor in Arcadia and in 1996 moved to the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Cox of Aspen, Colo.; one son, Randy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Gould and Alberta Mendyk, both of Arcadia; and one brother, Kenneth Hunt of Arcadia.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille John and an infant brother, Dillard Hunt.
'Ted' Kelsey
ROCKVILLE -- Theodore "Ted" W. Kelsey, 63, of Rockville died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with Chaplain Major Rodney Armon officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or to the family.
Mr. Kelsey was born on April 24, 1936 to William and Eunice (Whipple) Kelsey in Wood River. He grew up in Petersburg and attended school at Petersburg Public Schools. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953, serving in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1957 and returned to Nebraska.
He married
Anne McGee on July 11, 1959 in Grand Island, where the couple live.
Mr. Kelsey dedicated 20 years of his life to law enforcement, and retired as lieutenant of the Hall County Criminal Division.
He also served with the Nebraska National Guard, and after retiring from law enforcement he worked full time in the military, serving in Germany and Honduras. He retired as a 1st Sergeant from Ft. Riley, Kan.
In both careers, he received many honors and awards.
Mr. Kelsey was a member of the Eagles, Platt-Duetsche, American Legion, and the a.m. Islanders Kiwanians Club, where he served as president.
Survivors include his wife, Anne of Rockville; three sons, Steve Kelsey and Scott Kelsey, both of Grand Island and Shane Kelsey of Travis Air Force Base; one daughter, Sherri (Mrs. James) Kusek of Rockville; one granddaughter; and one half-sister, Pam (Mrs. Jeff) Lyons of St. Joseph, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James Browne
James A. Browne, 80, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Reich will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Robert Mattingly
Robert H. Mattingly, 82, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island Veterans Home. The Rev. Bill Forbes will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Mattingly was born on April 12, 1917, in Grand Island to Charles and Nellie (Howard) Mattingly. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Grand Island School of Business for two years.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 to October 1945.
He married
Darlene Francis Brown on Oct. 25, 1948, in Omaha. The couple lived in Grand Island, where Mr. Mattingly worked for various construction contractors as a carpenter.
The couple lived in Lincoln from 1957 to 1981. Mr. Mattingly retired in 1981, moved to Republican City in 1985 and back to Grand Island in 1988. He was living at the Grand Island Veterans Home at the time of his death.
He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating.
Survivors include three sons, Michael of York, Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gary of Paradise, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Kenneth Mattingly.
Scott Quandt
Scott A. Quandt, 28, of Grand Island died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home of accidental exposure to carbon monoxide.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs. Robert Harms and Martin Schmidt will officiate. A family prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Wiegert cemetery north of Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Libory Fire Department or to Trinity Lutheran School.
Mr. Quandt was born on Sept. 30, 1971, in Grand Island to Ronald and Doris (Kaiser) Quandt. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Northwest High School in 1989. After his education, he worked on the family farm and did custom farming with his brother, Steve. He also worked at the R&R; Quandt family farm shop.
His hobbies included driving demolition derby cars.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served with the St. Libory Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; one brother, Steve of Grand Island; and three sisters, Sandy (Mrs. Bill) Leiser, Teri (Mrs. Randy) Knott and Barbara Quandt, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reinhardt and Paula Quandt; and his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Bertha Kaiser.
