John Wojtasek
ORD -- John Wojtasek, 85, of Ord died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary and Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Evelyn Cowden
MANTECA, Calif. -- Evelyn D. Cowden, of Manteca Calif., formerly of Doniphan, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at her home.
Services will be private.
Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at P.L. Fry and Son Chapel in Manteca, Calif.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of San Joaquin in Stockton, Calif.
Mrs. Cowden was born July 26, 1923, in Clay Center to James and Della (Bridenbaugh) Campbell.
She married
Merton Cowden Jan. 29, 1945, in Santa Anna, Calif. She was a homemaker.
The couple lived in Doniphan for many years before moving to Manteca, Calif., in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Toni Trew of Manteca, Calif.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Campbell of Clay Center; and one sister, Mildred Kohl of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Daniel G. Jaeger Daniel G. Jaeger, 56, of Grand Island died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island with Father Jose Chavez officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Central Catholic.
Mr. Jaeger was born Nov. 25, 1943 to Forrest and Clara (Michele) Jaeger at Grand Island. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Central Catholic. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Hornet during the Vietnam War and received his discharge on Dec. 20, 1967.
On May 5, 1969 he married
Marlene Kosmicki at Ashton. The couple made their home in Grand Island, and Mr. Jaeger worked for the Jaeger Dental Lab and later ran the Wayfare Inn at Henderson. He also worked for Rainbow Bakery, Riverside Inn and Triad Fastener.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and was an avid coin collector.
Survivors in include one son, Roger Jaeger of Hastings; one daughter, Allison Jaeger of Grand Island; one grandson; two brothers, Michael Jaeger of Grand Island and James Jaeger of Willard, Mo.; and two sisters, Patricia Ann Kehm of Grand Island and Better Miller of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael Loescher
Michael L. Loescher, 55, of Grand Island died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Briese
ALBION -- Marvin E. Briese, 74, of Albion died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Brian Bergum will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Michael's cemetery in Albion with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 162 and VFW Post No. 736.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Briese was born Jan. 2, 1925, to Arthur and Helen (Knutsen) Briese at Newman Grove. He was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Beckman at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. He was educated at Boone County District No. 83 of rural Albion and graduated from Albion High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1944 until he was honorably discharged June 10, 1946. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, Point System, American Area Ribbon, AsiaticPacific Ribbon and the European African Mid Eastern Ribbon for his service.
He married
Agnes Murphy on Nov. 24, 1947, at Tilden. They lived and farmed north of Albion. They co-managed the Albion Vets Club from 1965 until 1969. In 1987, they retired and moved into Albion. She died Nov. 10, 1999.
He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He served on the American Legion Board.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat (Mrs. Randy) Neidhardt of Albion, Jane (Mrs. Bill) Parker of Meridian, Idaho; a son, Jeff Briese of Albion; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Briese of Albion and a sister, Margaret Anne Christensen of Marina, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Frank O. Friesen
HENDERSON -- Frank O. Friesen, 81, of Henderson died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 in Henderson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Metz Mortuary in Henderson in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Friesen was born March 8, 1918 in Hamilton County to Peter D. and Katharina (Friesen) Friesen.
On Oct. 19, 1939 he married
Marie Goertzen in Henderson.
Mr. Friesen was a longtime Hamilton county farmer, retiring in 1980 and then moving to Henderson in 1981. He then worked for Northern Pump at Henderson from 1985-98.
He was a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson.
Survivors include his wife, Marie of Henderson; three sons, Delmer Friesen, Arlo Friesen and Rendell Friesen, all of Aurora; one daughter, Rogena (Mrs. Gerald) Jantzen of Beatrice; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; and five step great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lillie (Mrs. Harland) Epp, Laura (Mrs. Don) Boehr and Leona Epp, all of Henderson.
Mr. Friesen was preceded in death by five brothers.
Frank Naprstek
ORD -- Frank Naprstek, 86, of Ord died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital Foundation for the purchase of a recliner for the intensive care unit at Valley County Hospital.
Mr. Naprstek was born May 17, 1913 in Howard County to Edward and Anna (Novotny) Naprstek. He was raised in rural Howard County around Elba. He was educated in rural Howard County Schools. At about 18, he drove 100 head of horses, by himself, from Kimball along the Dismal River to Ord.
On Jan. 12, 1937, he married
Alice Dworak at Ord. The couple lived for a time in the sandflats area of Valley County and then for the past 54 years had farmed and raised cattle northeast of Ord.
Mr. Naprstek was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge. In his younger years he had been involved with 4-H and enjoyed training horses. He also enjoyed raising cattle, trapping, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Ord; one daughter, JoAnn Duda of Ord; two sons, Allen Naprstek of Valparaiso, and Dale Naprstek of Valentine; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Edward Naprstek of Lexington; two sisters, Marg Kearney of Overton and Alice Thinnes of Lexington.
Mr. Naprstek was preceded in death by a grandson; a brother, Milford Naprstek and a sister, Vernice Kugler.
