Lydia Bartunek
Lydia Bartunek, 94, of Grand Island died Friday, January 12, 2001, at the Wedgewood Care Center of Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with Father Walter Phelan officiating. There will be a rosary at 9 a.m. Monda at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ord City cemetery in Ord. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Bartunek was born on September 10, 1906, to Ignac and Frances (Dolezal) Pesha at Chrastova, Czechoslovakia. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Albion, Nebraska, and they later moved Ord where she grew up and received her education. She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord.
She married
Alfred Bartunek on June 2, 1931, in Albion. The couple lived north of Ord where they farmed. The couple had one son Byron Paul. Upon their retirement, they sold the farm and moved to St. Paul, Nebraska. Following her husband's death, she moved to Grand Island.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the Legion of Mary, and a member of Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include a sister, Marie Nevrkla of Lafayette, Ind.; a niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her son and three brothers: Henry, Frank, and Jerry.
Robert Esau
PETERSBURG -- Robert E. Esau, 77, of Petersburg died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Albion. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant cemetery in Petersburg with Military Rites conducted by the Petersburg American Legion Post 334.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Daphne Kufeldt
CENTRAL CITY -- Daphne P. Kufeldt, 69, of Central City died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Litzenburg Memorial Hospital in Central City.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Central City with Ellen Campbell officiating, with assistance from Rev. Charles Pollard and Rev. Joy Savage. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Memorials are suggested to the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympics, Litzenburg Memorial County Hospital Foundation or the Timberlake Ranch Camp.
Mrs. Kufeldt was born Aug. 17, 1931, to Charley I. and Nellie P. (Bullis) Peck in Maxwell. She grew up in the Maxwell, Brady and Gothenburg communities and in Chicago and Blue Island, Ill.
On June 9, 1948 she married
Philip Kufeldt in Lexington. The couple lived for a time in Climax, Colo., then returned to farm in the Gothenburg, Genoa and Clarks area in 1964, and later to an acreage east of Central City in 1973.
She worked at the Central Nebraska Support Service Program as a teachers aide and in the Aurora and Grand Island school systems. She retired in 1996.
She was involved with Scouts, church activities, 4-H, camp crafts counselor and other community activities. She was a member of the A.R.C. and Y.A.R.C, and was a coach for many of the Hamilton/Merrick County Special Olympic teams. She also was a member of the Pythian Sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Alex Kufeldt of Kearney and Philip Kufeldt of Clarks; one daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Bill) Bolte of Central City; six grandchildren; two great granddaughters; four step great grandchildren; one brother, David Peck of Cozad; five sisters, Gail Murray of Ozark, Mo., Shirley (Mrs. Virgil) Hoskins of Arnold, Charlotte (Mrs. Merlin) Nelson of Knoxville, Iowa, Barbara Golden of Hastings and Judy (Mrs. Dennis) Zimbelman of Cozad.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a step great granddaughter; one brother, Charles Allen; and two sisters, Izola Mae and Sharon Rose.
Clotilda 'Tillie' Liss
SILVER CREEK -- Clotilda "Tillie" Liss, 87, of Silver Creek died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Columbus Manor in Columbus.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Dave Korth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home and after 6 p.m. at the church. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Liss was born Nov. 11, 1913, to Anton and Catherine (Chochon) Jawaroski in Tarnov. She received her education at St. Michael's School in Tarnov and later worked at St. Mary's Hospital before moving to Omaha.
On Sept. 10, 1935, she married
Edward M. Liss in Tarnov. The couple moved to the Duncan area where they lived and raised their family.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholice Church, St. Ann's Sodality, Duncan Lion Club, Garden Neighbors Extension Club, and the senior citizens centers in Duncan and Silver Creek.
Survivors include two daughters, Helena (Mrs. Rodney) Chinn of Silver Creek and Mary (Mrs. Jim) Kosek of Columbus; three sons, Ben A. Liss of Columbus, Edward P. Liss of Fullerton, and Robert Liss of Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore Jaworski of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daugher, Helen Marie Liss; six brothers, Alols Jaworski, Alvin Jaworski, Dennis Jaworski, Florian Jaworski, Paul Jaworski, and Peter Jaworski; and one sister, Isabelle Jaworski.
Donna Coufal
PLATTSMOUTH -- Donna L. Coufal, 75, of Plattsmouth died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with Pastor Wendell Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Funeral home.
Nora Billington
Nora C. Billington, 89, of Grand Island, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. at the church with a scripture wake service recited at 7 p.m.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Billington was born in Paxton, Jan. 17, 1911, to Robert E. and Sarah (Kirley) James. She grew up in Grand Island and received her education in Kearney.
She married
Wayne E. Billington on Nov. 1, 1927 in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island. Mr. Billington preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1987.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Eagles and a Lifetime member of Oldtimers Auxiliary.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Larry) Wing of New Braunfels, Tex., Judy (Mrs. Leo) Simons of Boelus, Janis Helms of Grand Island and Wreatha Gosda of Farwell; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis James of Grand Island; two sisters, Agnes (Mrs. Joe) Lockhorn of Topeka, Kan. and Dorotha (Mrs. Norman) Christensen of Anaheim, Calif.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lola Steinmetz; two sons, Allen and Virgil; five brothers, Orlanda, Lawrence, Ervin, Patrick and Carl James; and one sister, Irene Koch.
