Freddie Katz
Freddie "Fred" Katz, 89, of Grand Island, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kleine Funeral Home. The family receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Methodist Church.
Mr. Katz was born May 14, 1911, at New York City to Morris and Rebecca Katz. He went to school in New York City.
He was a decorated veteran with the U.S. Army Air Corps, and served in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was with the 39th Bomb Group in Guam in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
He married
Gwen Gibson on Oct. 27, 1944. Mrs. Katz died on Aug. 20, 1960.
Mr. Katz worked at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island from 1958 to 1976.
He married
Kathryn Fuehrer on Sept. 16, 1962. They lived in Grand Island.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul E. Fuehrer of Huntsville, Ala.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, L. Katz of Sioux City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Erving; a sister, Rose, and a grandson.
June Poss
June M. Poss, 85, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at the Tiffany Square Care Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton Texas. The Rev. Gerald Stanford will officiate. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Tiffany Square Care Center.
The Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Poss was born on Nov. 19, 1915, in Minneapolis, Kan., to Vern and Madge (Wilson) Bisbey. She grew up and received her education in Kansas.
She married
Floyd Darling on Jan. 18, 1939. The couple moved to California in 1940, and Mrs. Poss worked as a long distance telephone operator for 23 years for Pacific Bell.
Mrs. Poss moved to Texas after Mr. Darling died in 1974. She married
Clarence A. Poss on Nov. 1, 1985 in Amarillo, Texas.
In 1996 Mrs. Poss moved to Grand Island after Mr. Poss died. She lived at the Riverside Lodge before moving to Tiffany Square.
She enjoyed church activities, playing cards, and going to dances. She also like to spend time with family and friends.
She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and a 50-year member of the Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Jean Ayers of Salina, Kan.; and a niece, Shirley Lueth of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a sister, Dorothy Leeser; and a brother, Donald D. Bisbey.
Bob Bruha
ORD--Robert E. Bruha, 43, of Ord, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Father Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorails are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, or the Valley County Nursing Home.
Ord memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Louis Jares
ST. PAUL -- Louis F. Jares, 83, of St. Paul, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Will Reger will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery in St. Paul with military honors.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Albert School in Council Bluffs or the Howard County Veterans Memorial Monument of Post 119.
Mr. Jares was born Feb. 27, 1917, at St. Paul to Frank and Jennie (Matousek) Jares. He started school at rural St. Paul and when the family moved to Cushing he continued his education there. As a young man he farmed with his family.
During the depression, Mr. Jares worked as a lineman for the REA and at various other jobs. In 1944, he entered the U.S. Army and received a medical discharge due to injury in January 1945.
He moved to Omaha where he worked at the Glenn L. Martin Bomber plant. In 1945, he purchased the Whale Cafe in St. Paul.
Mr. Jares married
Bertha Berger on June 1, 1947 in Grand Island. The couple lived in St. Paul where the operated the cafe, which was renamed Louie's Cafe.
In 1958, they sold the cafe and in 1959 they opened a gift shop, laundromat and trailer home court. The couple sold their businesses in 1994 and retired in St. Paul. Mrs. Jares died on Feb. 6, 2000.
Mr. Jares was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 in St. Paul.
He enjoyed the outdoors, trapping, lawn work, gardening, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include a son, Jerry of Council Bluffs; two daughters from a previous marriage, Barbara McBride and Donna Young, both of San Diego; two granddaughters; and a sister, Bessie (Mrs. William) Lanka of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; a son, Ronnie; and a sister, Lucille Boll.
Mae B. Wisely
ST. PAUL--Mae Bertha Wisely, 99, of St. Paul died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Del Roper officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the service time on Monday. Burial will be in the Osceola cemetery at 1 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Wisely was born on Feb. 9, 1901, in Polk County to Charles Henry and Bertha Mae (Morgan) Dake. She was educated in Colorado and in Polk County Schools in Nebraska. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught school in Polk and Merrick Counties.
She married
Paul Wisely on May 20, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He died in 1963.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island, the Ladies Aide Society and Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and made her daughters' clothes when they were younger.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Wisely of Grand Island; a daughter, Doris (Mrs. Vernal) Beckstrom of Erie, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, four sisters and three brothers.
